Day 6: Late Morning
Who: Lexie and Andy
What: Just checking out the leg
Where: The Church
When: Late Morning
Rating: PG~
Status: Complete

Lexie hadn't even bothered to go back to the barn yet. She knew she'd had some warmer clothes she'd found at the thrift shop; but, she just didn't want to think about clothing at the moment. She didn't want to think about waking up naked next to someone she didn't know. She also, certainly, didn't want to think about the weird dream she'd had about O'Malley. Why was she dreaming about O'Malley, anyway? She was totally and completely over that man and his inability to be normal.

Stepping up to the front door of the church Lexie knocked and then poked her head inside. "Andy, you around here somwhere?" She called from the door, pushing it shut quickly to try and keep the wind and snow out. "I didn't know if you needed anything so I didn't bring stuff.. but if you need something..." She trailed off, wrapping her arms around herself in an attempt to keep warm.

So far, Andy's day was looking up in comparison to the previous night. Yeah, Luna was still acting weird and yeah, he was going to leave as soon as he could because he couldn't handle it anymore, but...it had been admittedly motherfucking funny watching Sam pull the prank on Dean. Guy deserved it for honing in on Andy's territory without asking and worse, for giving Luna a perfectly good reason not to talk to him and not to let him explain what had gone down a couple of days ago, which he could only assume was why she was so upset.

So when he heard Lexie's voice, a part of him sighed with relief. If she said his leg was all right, he'd put on a few more layers of clothes, pack up his shit, and leave the church. Andy could take a hint. He knew when he wasn't wanted around and he didn't like the idea of forcing his presence on her anymore. Especially if she had her choice of Winchester stock to take care of her.

"Yeah, up here," Andy called, raising an arm and waving it in the air so that she'd see it over the top edge of the pew in which he was laying, journal open and resting on his chest because he hadn't had anything better to do than read the immature and hilarious ramblings of other people. It was kind of nice to see, if he was honest; it meant that things were calm enough that people were cool with being dorks. That was a relief and it gave him a little bit of hope that maybe they'd get out of here soon.

Lexie made her way down the aisle to where she saw Andy's arm come up. It was good that he was up off the floor. What troubled Lexie was that he was alone. with as strange as this place was being, nobody should really be alone.

"How ya feeling, Andy?" She asked, taking a seat on the floor next to the pew. She didn't really want to tower over him; that was the last thing he needed.

"Tenderness, soreness, burning? Have you tried to move your leg at all?" She knew she was bombarding him with questions, she just didn't want to overlook anything.

Like shit, he wanted to tell her, but that really wasn't what she was asking, so he kept that negative sentiment to himself. "I'm all right," he replied. "Yeah still a little sore, but I haven't moved much more than getting up off the floor. I didn't wanna do anything until you said I could, since you said if I followed directions, I could be up and moving sooner," he replied.

He neither added in the fact that he was dying to get the fuck out of here and take a nice long walk - alone - nor the fact that he was itching for her to suggest he move, so that it wasn't about him being a deserter.

"What's the word?" he asked, nodding down at his leg. "And actually if you don't mind...you think you can grab the rest of that water just over there by my kit and help me clean my ear. That itches like a motherfucker, but I know better than to scratch at it. I think it's just cuz of the smoke from the fire irritating it, but I could be wrong. I'm not real worried about the ear, to be honest," he admitted. The leg was bigger fish to fry, so far as he was concerned. That was his top priority. Never mind needing to get out for a while, Andy hated the idea of being essentially helpless, should some other fucked up experiment have his name on it within the next few days or weeks.

Andy didn't need to say he wasn't feeling well - Lexie had been warned by a note in her journal from Dean. Something was up with Andy, and it wasn't just his leg either.

"Seem like you've lost a bit of your pep," she said, pulling the blanket's end up off the floor and pulling out a tiny bottle of hand sanitizer from her pocket. "I'm so sorry in advance for the cold hands," she said, rubbing her hands together with the Purel and offering a sympathetic smile.

Taking a look at the skin of his thigh she looked for the tell tale signs of infection - streaking of the skin, oozing, and undue swelling. Andy's leg, for better or worse looked OK. Squinting in the low light, Lexie looked over the sutures which looked to be holding well enough. The blood had clotted and seemed to be all normal.

"Well, Andy, you look to be healing fairly well," she said, rocking backward. Reaching over she claimed his water bottle. "We'll look at that ear of yours in a minute. Where's that blonde girl, I thought she'd look after you?"

With a small huff of laughter, Andy gave Lexie a grim smile. "Yeah, well, it's hard to shake my pom poms when I'm an effective cripple for the time being," he replied. He gave a curt nod in recognition of her premature apology and braced himself for the cold touch. "Is that like a pre-requisite to becoming a doctor? You gotta have hands made of ice?" he joked.

He winced just slightly at the cold sensation of her hands on his leg, but he watched her face as she examined the wound. For what, he wasn't sure; maybe he just wanted to see if she'd make one of those 'oh, fuck...' faces when she thought he wasn't looking. But she didn't and she told him that he seemed to be healing fine, so that was a plus. "So can I take a walk, if I promise to use the crutches, Doc Lex? Fuckin' cabin fever is about to run me into the ground like you wouldn't believe," he told her.

And then she asked about Luna. She had to ask about Luna... He shrugged. "I dunno. Out, I guess," he replied vaguely. It wasn't like Luna and he were on ideal communicating terms. "She did. I was up and good to go," he replied, because it was mostly true. He'd dragged himself on the floor outside to fuckin' take a whiz after she and the brothers Winchester had vacated the premises, but he didn't feel the need to share that with anybody, least of all a girl, doctor or not.

"Pre-requisite to becoming a Doctor? Sure, you know they actually check your circulation to your hands when you apply to med school to be sure your hands will only get colder with age," she smiled warmly. Truthfully, her hands weren't usually all that bad, it was the snow that was getting to her. She wondered if the thrift store had mittens?

"I'd say you can start with about 15 minutes of walking, if you have to Andy. Though, you should really try and take it easy, OK? The crutches are mandatory for now. I'm not too confident in dental floss' ability to hold your stitches properly without care, if I'm being honest," Woah, where had that ramble come from? Oh, that's right, the need to prolong avoiding having the awkward conversation she'd been roped in to by Dean.

"Andy, you're not good to go, and you certainly shouldn't be alone," she said this with as much gravity as she felt she ought to inject into her features. He shouldn't be alone. Sepsis aside, what if one of those creatures came in and mauled him, then what would he do?

"Andy, give it to me straight, what's going on with you two? I only ask as your concerned doctor who needs someone reliable to watch out for you when I'm off being experimented on," she wanted desperately to flash a playful grin, though it somehow got lost in the back of her head. She was really hating Dean at this moment and she hadn't even met Dean.

Andy smirked in spite of himself. "I knew it!" he said with mock accusation as he pointed at her. His smile faltered but didn't drop entirely away when Lexie said he should only start out with fifteen minutes of walking. That wouldn't get him very far. Maybe to the carnival, if he hobbled along on the crutches fast enough. But then he'd be stuck there and it was too fucking cold to be stuck outside. "That's cool, I planned on hanging onto the crutches until you said I didn't have to, anyway," he admitted, albeit grudgingly. He, too, was unsure about the stability of fucking dental floss holding him together.

"Nah, I meant this morning," Andy replied, shaking his head. "You know, got my tea and an apple and got the pants off so you didn't have to dick around with that when you got here...you know, that stuff. If I'm getting cabin fever because I can't walk, imagine how she feels, because she can. I can't lock her up in here, ya know? It's cool if she goes off for a little bit during the day and everything," he replied, forcing a small smile in hopes of reassuring Lexie that he was fine alone for small periods of time.

When Lexie pushed, though, Andy closed himself off, rubbing his forehead with one hand and closing his eyes. Fuck, was he really that transparent? "You know what? I don't even know. I don't know what her deal is. I know that I like her and that I kissed her and that she freaked out and ran out into the woods, and I know that she misunderstood some stupid ass thing I said and she won't let me explain. I know that she's talking to the goddamn Winchesters and I know that I'm just a scrawny dude from Oklahoma and I can't fucking begin to compare to a couple of giant-sized male model types with hero complexes. I'm too fucking tired to try, too. She's uncomfortable with me, she doesn't want to be around me - she can't even look at me straight - and I don't want to be a thorn in her side. That's what I know. So, I'll figure something out that makes everybody happy. Jesus, you sound like Dean," he muttered wearily, running the hand on his forehead through his hair and then dropping it uselessly into his lap.

"Now that you know, I'll have to kill you. None can know the secret of the cold hands," she said this with a deep serious tone that absolutely no one in their right mind could take seriously - even her. Laughing a bit she wrapped her arms tightly around her midsection, trying to keep warm.

Lexie listened, not really wanting to interject about him being alone or about his explanation about his feelings for Luna. She wondered if the girl walked on water or something because from what she'd gathered, most of the men around seemed to be falling head over heels for her. Lexie decided she must be something pretty special, in a good way of course.

When Andy mentioned that she sounded like Dean, her face dropped a bit. She was only doing this at his request - the request of a person she hadn't met and only wrote back and forth with in the Journal. How messed up was that? "Andy, you don't need to compare with them. You're a sweet, brave, kind man," she started a wholesome quality to her voice. "Maybe she was freaked out by the situation? It doesn't necessarily have to be that she was freaked out by you, you know." Lexie was trying to be supportive.

"Let's sit you up, huh? See how moving around on those crutches treats you?" She offered, spotting the crutches nearby she reached out for them and stood, holding them expectantly.

Grinning slightly, Andy couldn't help but to laugh along with her. "What if I promise to keep it our little secret? D'you think maybe you could spare my pathetic life, in that case?" he asked with a smirk. Andy was pretty good at keeping secrets, actually. He'd been really tempted to tell Dean just exactly why he'd be sorry if he tried to fuck with Andy over Luna when he didn't even know what the hell he was talking about, but he'd kept it to himself. He also hadn't told anyone about what Luna knew about Merope and had no intention of doing so, either. Never mind the fact that he spent the last year, give or take, keeping his ability a secret from anyone he cared about. He was far more keen to keep from letting that cat out of the bag again after seeing how Tracy had reacted to it.

The grin fell away entirely when Lexie said he didn't need to compare with the Winchesters. Whether she thought so or not didn't really matter. Andy thought so. He had something to prove; to them, to Luna...and to himself. There was little to nothing Lexie would be able to do to dissuade him, but he didn't say as much. "Oh, I'm sure she was freaked out by the situation, but that doesn't make me feel much better about it, you know?" he asked. "But like I said, I'm not gonna leave her hanging; if something happened to her because I was in a shitty mood, I couldn't live with that. I'll figure something out."

Lexie's suggestion that he get up and move around a bit was music to his ears, though, and he smiled again, however weakly, as he took the crutches in hand and very carefully - wincing with the pain and stiffness of having sat in the same place for the equivalent of a day - got to his feet. Fitting them beneath his arms, Andy leaned his weight down on them and looked back at Lexie. "Should I be lifting my leg up the way I had been or just using the crutches to support my weight and walk like normal?" he asked.

"The only way to escape death once learning of the cold-hands prerequisite is to join our numbers. Here's hoping you're prepared for med school, Andy."

The more Andy talked about the situation between her and Luna, the more she just didn't know what to say. She didn't really feel like it was her place to even be talking about it, really - and in truth she was only even mentioning it because Dean had asked her to.

Sliding her awkwardness away like a poker player, Lexie set her attention to the task at hand. She needed to get Andy up and moving. As Andy stood, he cocked back his heel to which Lexie winced. "You're actually going to just want to try and walk normally, bending your knee like that flexes the muscle putting pressure on your floss," she was trying to make light of the situation just a bit. It was sort of grotesque to use floss as sutures. Ok, really grotesque.

"How's it feel to be standing? Any numbness in your leg or foot?"

Andy laughed and gave a facial shrug as if to indicate he was considering the proposition. Maybe I could just tell all my patients that there was nothing wrong with them and they should go home. It'd make my work day a fuckin' piece of cake, at least, he thought with a tinge of probably inappropriate amusement.

When Lexie made no further comment about Luna or his wanting to leave the church for a while, Andy felt relieved. He didn't want to talk about it, nor did he like the idea of pushing away a potential friend in this place with his fucking pussy-assed emo bullshit. He'd get over it eventually, anyway, so there was no point bitching and moaning about it to Lexie when there was nothing she could do to make him feel better or aid the situation. Not that it was her job to, or anything, anyway. He sort of wondered why she gave a shit, but he wasn't going to ask.

Looking back at Lexie, he raised his eyebrows. "Hadn't thought of it that way..." he admitted a little sheepishly. "Gotcha." With that, he rested the foot of his injured leg on the floor and tried to even out his weight. A small wince crossed his features. "Eh, I'm just really fuckin' stiff." After a moment, he took a few slow steps and actually it felt about the way it had when he and Martha had first come out of the woods. A little twingy but not debilitating or excrutiating. "It feels amazing to get off my ass, though. I have numbness there," he laughed.

After taking a lap up the aisle and back to Lexie again, Andy gave her a hopeful look, eyebrows raised with expectation. "Feels all right. Hurts a little, but you sewed me together with minty string so..." he said playfully with a wink. His smile dropped away then and he looked very seriously at her. "Look, I just need to get out of this fuckin' church for a few minutes, Lex, I'm not gonna lie to you. I promise not to go over fifteen minutes and I'll even cover it if you want me to until I get back. Just...please tell me I can go take a walk before I go fuckin' insane with cabin fever..." he all but begged.

Andy was being such a trooper, and Lexie really appreciated that. Though, it wasn't like he had much choice. It was either work through it or sit around and mope - good for him not moping, she liked that.

"Well, we'll work out some of that stiffness once we get you moving," Lexie was very deliberately shadowing Andy. While she hadn't spent much time watching OT - she had watched enough to see that people with injuries tired quickly, and that when people were tired they were prone to falls.

Finally it came time for Andy to do a lap on his own, leaving Lexie to watch uncomfortably. Everything in her mind told her that this sort of maneuver was best practiced on mats or with tie offs and people shadowing - but Andy, being Andy, hadn't left her much time for dispute. With a sigh of relief at his return Lexie beamed.

"Well look at you," features curling into a lazy smile. She listened as he complained of cabin fever - which she was sure Luna wasn't doing too much to ease. "Nothing holding you back, Andy - as long as you keep to your word and all," she shivered a little, a chill coming out of nowhere to run up her spine. "So, I've got your word then, Andy?"

The relief washed over Andy in a tidal wave when Lexie said he was good to go, so long as he kept his word to her not to stay on it for too long at a time. "Honest to God," he promised. "You want me to cover it with plastic if I go out or will the bandage be enough?" he asked. Andy wanted to make very sure he didn't fuck up; the longer he spent laid up, the worse he'd feel about everything under the sun and Andy missed being his happy-go-lucky self.

"Thanks again, Doc Lex," he said, giving her a mock salute. "I owe ya one, for sure. Maybe more."

"A bandage should be fine," she said, amused as Andy turned so very, very ecstatic about being able to roam free again once more - even if it was for a limited period of time.

"Just doing my job, Andy," she let her grin a moment before wrapping her arms around herself. "I'm going to run, I'd really like to get back to the barn and warmed clothing," she was slowly dragging herself down the aisle and toward the door.

"Give a yell if you need anything, you know where to find me," waved as she slid out the door into the furiously cold winteresque air.
