Watanuki nodded sympathetically. He himself was having troubles getting even in sight of the forest, he could imagine how the little creature would feel about it. "I was woken up by that alarm as well," he sighed. "It's really vexing. You wouldn't know what causes it, would you?"
He was glad that she would eat the apple - he wouldn't have known where to find other kinds of food, and she looked as if she couldn't go on for much longer on an empty stomach. He sat down on the thrift store's steps, moving slowly to avoid making the fairy lose her balance, and fished one apple out of his bag. "I don't mind," he assured her as he cleaned the apple on a sleeve as best as he could, then cut it in half. "I haven't had breakfast yet and it's nicer to eat together," Watanuki added, and held out a slice for the fairy. He was unsure of how much she would eat, so he saved half of the apple for her and bit on his own half. If it wasn't enough, there was still one last apple in the bag.
"I'm Watanuki," the boy said with a smile and a small bow. "Nice to meet you." "Yes, it's difficult to survive on your own," he agreed. "I'm glad there's the journals so we can all be in touch." And we can find out fairly quickly if anyone is missing, he added privately, but he couldn't say it aloud. If it hadn't been for the alarm, which went off at random intervals, it would have seemed like such a fine morning.
