Heather Mason ([info]tufui_egoeris) wrote in [info]vas_captio_rpg,
"The people did what? Cheryl asked, glancing up sharply from the book which she had opened in her lap. She shook her head slowly and offered a faint sounding laugh. "That can't be right - I know I was out of it for a good while, but Portland seemed perfectly normal. And very much on Earth. I haven't even heard of anyone but astronauts --"

Cheryl allowed her words to trail away and she closed her eyes, cursing softly. The thought that River might have just been joking flickered across her mind, but she quickly discounted it; it was something said far too casually to be a lie or a joke - and there was no obvious reason for River to want them to believe such a strange story, if it wasn't true.

So, now there was no way of knowing if Cheryl was even on her native planet, but at least there was good evidence that Watanuki came from the same Earth as she. "We've been speaking English all along, haven't we? I don't even know any other languages..." Well, there were the two years of French she'd taken in school, but that wasn't really enough to converse very easily or naturally.

Wanting time to chew on her thoughts, Cheryl turned her attention back to the book she had found, but she was brought to a cold stop at the almost casual mention of dying in a fire. The thought lying much too close with her own past experience with fires, she fought against a rising panic and it was only through an effort of will that she kept the reaction to a mere shaking of her hands.

"I--maybe we should start looking for supplies and a better shelter?" She suggested, glancing from River to Watanuki. "It doesn't look like we're going to find anything useful here and we should use the daylight while we have it since we don't know how long we'll have to walk."
