Watanuki woke up with a start when he heard a voice close to him. He couldn't remember falling asleep. The last thing he could remember was getting ready to cook dinner at Yuuko's place. "Yuuko?" he called sleepily. "I'm sorry, your dinner will have to wait a bit..." His sentence was cut off by a huge sneeze. He shivered in his uniform. It was cold and wet, and something uncomfortable was digging into his back. Had he fallen asleep in the garden? Watanuki opened his eyes, and his first thought was that he was still asleep. Or was his right eye showing him another world? But no - he could see the forest from both eyes and the soil under him felt real enough. He was in the middle of a forest, from what he could see among the mist that clung to the trees. His clothes, usually immaculate, were crumpled and dirty from lying on the forest for what had probably been hours.
His body ached all over from sleeping on the hard ground. He got up, massaging his neck and looking around. This was probably another of Yuuko's schemes. Just what had that witch planned now? He felt his temper rising and wished that Yuuko was here so he could yell at her, but nobody else seemed to be around apart from two girls not much older than he was. He could hardly rage at them. He turned to one of the girls next to him, but realized that she was muttering something incomprehensible under her breath. Watanuki frowned, hoping it wasn't another witch. He decided to address the other girl instead. "What is this place?" the boy asked. It sounded better than asking where the place was, since it looked definitely otherwordly.
