Entry tags:castiel, day 1: reboot, dean winchester, open

Who: Dean Winchester (open)
What: Dean trying to find Sam
When: Day 1 - 11:30-ish
Where: Outside Mickey's Diner
Rating: R
Status: Active

The doors of the old 50's diner burst open as Dean made his way out into the epic weirdness that was his town.  He should be trying to figure out a way to get out of here.  No, he should be figuring out a way to find everyone, to collect everybody into one place so they could organize.  He should be working on how to keep everybody safe...he should be doing ANYTHING productive, but was he?  No, he was looking for his stupid little brother who had a freak out and took off.  Just like every other time in their life when Sam felt overwhelmed and upset he ran off, and just like every other time in their lives Dean went after him like the sap he was.

Ok, so maybe he wasn't being 100% fair, Sam might have had a right to freak out.  Sam had demanded answers about what was going to happen in their future, what was he supposed to say?  "Oh yeah Sammy, you fuck up BIG time.  You trust Ruby, kill Lilith, release Lucifer, and help jump start the biblical apocalypse.  Hey, who wants pie?"  Not that he could do that....because there was no freakin pie.  What kind of self-respecting diner didn't have pie?  Then again, what kind of diner didn't have food?  God this place sucked.

His eyes scanned the creepy town in front of him, searching for any signs of a mopey sasquatch.  "Sammy?" he shouted, hoping his patented big brother call would make Sam magically appear like it usually did.

After the diner, Castiel's desire to find answers grew more and more urgent. Using his angelic power, he flew to a number of locations all around the same, desolate town. To the human eye, it would appear he, as Dean would say, teleported. It wasn't that he did it for speed, but it was to him as walking is to humans.

He always found the way people moved to be peculiar, especially running. The fact that using two thin supports to hold up a weighty mass was incredible and displayed for him the power of God's ingenuity. Here in this strange place, it was going to be exceptionally useful.

Eventually, he landed in the street between the church and the movie theater. Each a place where people went to find understanding and answers. Unlike most churches, this one felt hollow somehow. Most churches filled him with a sense of communion with Heaven, but this one felt the same as the theater behind him. The notion was both unsettling and disheartening.

He needed to confer with Dean.

A moment later, he was back outside of Mickey's Diner. Instead of Sam magically appearing as Dean wished, he got Castiel, fully healed and more pensive than usual.

Dean had been working with the Castiel for well over a year now. He had made the appropriate adjustments it took to go from not believing in angels to suddenly having one in your inner circle. He had grown accustom to his weird way of speaking, never changing clothes, and blank expression to the point where they were almost comforting to him now. However, there was one thing Dean had never been to able to fully get used to, and that was when the other man would randomly appear out of NOWHERE right next to Dean when he was deep in thought.

"Son of a bitch!" he yelped and jumped far more than he would have liked to...though Dean would argue in a place like this he had a reason to be jumpy.

"Hello, Dean," Castiel greeted him in the same, monotone voice that he always did. His brow was knit in thought as he considered a wide variety of explanations for all the strange things he saw and felt in this place.

He glanced down the street to the library and then to Dean. "This place is wrong."

He usually attempted to humor Cas when he looked as troubled as he did now but Dean couldn't help the snort of laughter that the angel's obvious statement caused. "Yeah dude....I kinda figured that out already."

Lately, every time Dean sarcastically dismissed his observations, Castiel wondered why he did what he did. Of course, the answer was simple. Or at least he thought it was. Dean was the one he had promised to help, so he was going to help him.

What he never considered was that he never stopped following orders.

"I can't leave," he said flatly. It made him feel sensations that he was unaccustomed to. He felt anxious, trapped, and weak. He had so little experience with the feelings that he did not know how to express them.

His posture drooped slightly at the news, "yeah...I was kind of afraid of that. Ok, that means we're dealing with something that can not only pick people from different times and places but can trap an angel...swell. I know Sam is in the library researching but chances are he's just moping."

His gaze returned to the angel, hoping this would be one of those times where Cas seemed to have all the answers. "Got any ideas dude?"

"None." Sadly, Castiel resigned to his own uncertainty for a moment. His waining powers shook his conviction and faith to the core. Without the full strength of the Grace of Heaven, he was losing much of his strength and power. All too frequently, he wondered what would happen should he lose all touch with his angelic powers. He wondered if he would be of any use at all.

What he could do was impart knowledge. Even if he lost all of his power, he still retained his knowledge of things more ancient than humanity. "We should prepare for anyone to be behind this."

"I just don't get what the point of all this is...maybe heaven or hell isn't involved. This doesn't really seem like either of their styles." He just stood there deep in thought, brain going a mile a minute as he thought of all the different possible scenarios. Some involved Zachariah or Lucifer but as time went on they started to involve things like Lex Luthor or evil spider monkeys because Dean's mind was sometimes a strange and confusing place.

"Ok, then I say we try to stick together, figure out how many civilians are here, and make sure we're prepared for everything if this psycho management decided to make a move," he nodded with great conviction despite the fact that he had no idea what he was doing. He couldn't let Cas know that though, for some reason this ancient creature had decided to look to him for guidance.

"Management?" He hadn't heard anything about any management.

Castiel had been hopping all over the small abandoned town and he had not run into anything remotely resembling a manager. The only clues he had were from the kit in his pocket.

"Yeah, cryptic bastards I've heard people say are in charge. Well...I haven't heard anything but I read it in the creepy magic journal." Suddenly remembering the thing existed Dean pulled the strange box out of his coat pocket. "Hey, did you get one of these?"
