Who: Little Connor and Little Chris
What: Being little kids, of course
When: Day 19, early morning
Where: The gymnasium
Rating: PG, no swearing in front of the kids please! ;)
Status: Complete

He was having that dragon dream again. Connor liked dragons quite a bit. The big scary kind. But in his dream, they weren't scary to him. He was the one who knew them the best. They liked him and let him play in their Dragon Kingdom while they only ate people who tried to slay them with swords. Sometimes in the dream, he even became a dragon and that was just aces!

But then it started getting a bit warm and he yawned and pulled himself to a sitting position. Morning meant going to school. Morning meant more fighting in the kitchen. Connor was really not looking forward to it. Maybe he could get just five more minutes...

And then he jerked with a jolt. He wasn't in his bed. In fact, it looked like he was in the primary school's gymnasium. Had he fallen asleep at school? Stayed overnight? Wouldn't he remember that? He didn't remember that. What he really wanted were some eggs and toast, but he should probably figure out where he was first. The boy sleeping next to him didn't look like any of his classmates, either. New kid? That was just weird. "Hey," he said, shaking the boy just as he would his best mate, Dennis, after a sleepover. "Hey, what're you doing? Who're you? Wake up!"

Connor was, honestly, quite annoying first thing in the morning. Even as an adult.

Chris was a relatively light sleeper, even for a kid. He had to be, as many pranks as his older brother had tried to play on him over their childhood thus far. Well, not try. Wyatt usually succeeded because Chris' magic couldn't complete with his older brother's. Not because of age, but because of his brother's powers. It wasn't fair. If they were 'normal' children of witch heritage they would be closer to equals. But nothing about his family was normal, even for the magic world.

As someone shook him Chris started awake, quickly rolling onto his back from where he had been curled up tight on his side. His eyes opened as he realized he didn't recognize the voice he heard... and why was his bed so hard all of a sudden. "Who are you?" Chris demanded, as well as a six year old could, sitting up and scooting a little bit away from the other boy. He wasn't awake enough for magical instincts to kick in yet. "Where am I?" came next as he looked around, all traces of sleep fading as he realized this wasn't at all his bedroom, or any other room in the Halliwell Manor. What kind of a trick was his brother pulling now?

"I dunno!" Connor snapped back, looking annoyed. Mostly because he was still tired. The floor of the gymnasium hadn't exactly been comfy cozy, after all. "I mean, I know who I am, but I dunno who you are! Or where we are. I thought I was at school but this is not my school."

He sounded a bit perturbed, as any child waking up in a strange place would. His dark eyes narrowed a bit, glaring at the other boy. "I don't even know you, why don't I know you?" As if the young Chris Halliwell would have any idea why his bunk buddy didn't know him. "I don't like it here, I want to go home. But not to school." And why in the world was he dressed like this? Where were his brontosaurus jammies? The hat was kind of cool, though. He picked it up and plopped it on his head.

"I know who I am too!" Chris parroted back, narrowing his eyes the same. He didn't like getting woken up abruptly like that, and he certainly didn't like waking up in strange places that weren't his bed. Not that it happened a lot... well, not after the last time Wyatt had orbed him into the closet and locked it. When he woke up Chris had tried to orb out but somehow his brother kept messing it up. Their mother had scolded Wyatt something fierce after that, but what Chris remembered more was the look his brother had given him. Made him shiver just thinking about it.

As Chris got to his feet his shirt felt kinda scratchy and he looked down, eyes going wide at what looked like blood staining part of it. He may have been only a little kid, but he already knew what blood looked like. He knew about demons too, and arguments that were had over his brother that he wasn't supposed to hear. Little hands pulled his shirt out and he poked his fingers through the hole, wiggling them and then pulling the shirt up to look at his stomach. No blood, no nothing. That was weird. Like, weirder than normal weird. "Dad?" he called out, a little louder than one might normally at first. His dad wasn't always home so Chris had to be louder sometimes. He knew both his mom and dad gave Wyatt more attention, but he wasn't old enough yet to start thinking that his dad might neglect him in favor of his troublesome brother. When nothing happened Chris looked up at the ceiling and called out louder, almost yelling now. "Dad! Dad, it's me!" Surely he could be heard up in the heavens if that's where his dad was. He had no idea he wasn't in his familiar world at all.

"He can't hear you, dummy," Connor scolded, looking amused. He got to his own feet, looking around for anything familiar. "If he could hear you, you probably wouldn't be here.". Because good daddies came and protected you. That explained why Connor's wasn't there.

"Hey, are you an exchange student or something? You're from somewhere else." Connor was good at pointing out the obvious. Except for animals that everyone else didn't believe in. He so knew unicorns were real. Even if his mum swore they were make-believe. She also said Father Christmas was real and he knew that was a big fat lie. How could a man so fat fly around the world in one night?

At the other kid's comment Chris looked at him and glared. Hard. "My dad's important. If he's up there he can hear me." He knew because Leo had taken him up to the heavens, once. Oh, Piper had been so pissed. It was one of the only times he'd caught them arguing about him, but then, Chris hadn't gotten to overhear all of it because Wyatt had been too busy gloating that he could orb wherever he wanted all on his own. Stupid older brother.

"I think you're from somewhere else." Chris was already turning away from the other boy and looking around, trying to figure out where he was. Definitely not at magic school, or anywhere either of his parents or aunts had taken him. But they wouldn't leave him anywhere. He knew that, no matter what Wyatt might say to the contrary. "This place is weird. It's dirty." Chris walked over to a wall and poked at it, as if he needed to make sure it was real. Lots of things looked real but weren't, his mom had told him that before. All of them had.

They were both somewhere they'd never been before and the guy was worried about how dirty it was? There was something so off about this kid that Connor knew he ought to keep an eye on him. Weeeird.

"If he's up where? There's probably not an upstairs, it is a gymnasium. My mum goes to one sometimes but it's bigger and fancier with lotsa machines and stuff." And she wore those weird things on her legs and her hair all poufy. Daddy had said something once about her going to find a man, but why would she go there when she could just go to the grocery store or to Connor's school? Silly mummy.

Making sure his newfound hat was firmly on his head, Connor wandered to the doorway of the gym. Nothing slowed this kid down. Not even impending danger, like stepping outside of the comfortable. "I'm not even near my house!" he yelled over to the new kid. "We don't have trees like that at home. I know, I've climbed them all. I wonder if that makes a good climbing tree?" So, of course, he stepped outside and hurried to the tree to inspect it more closely.

"Up in the sky. He's important." he repeated, looking over at the other boy. Was this kid a witch too? Chris wasn't sure if that would be a good thing or not. Some of the other kids at magic school weren't the nicest to him, if they paid him any mind at all. Everyone fawned over his brother because he was so special. Well Chris was special too! He was only the second male Halliwell to be born, after all! Just because he wasn't all spiffy like Wyatt, vanquishing demons when he was just a baby and bringing dragons to life and --

"Where are you going?!" Footsteps were easy to hear on a gym floor and Chris looked over to see what the other boy was up to. When he disappeared out the door Chris didn't run over; instead he tilted his head to one side as he focused and orbed himself to the location, appearing a few feet outside the gymnasium door. Huh, dad was right. It didn't take as much effort to orb to somewhere in his line of sight. He would have to try that more.

Once he was outside Chris' curiosity faded a little as he looked around, green eyes going wide. "This isn't home. This isn't home at all..." He hadn't seen anything rundown looking like the other buildings he could see before. Not even when they went and visited his grandparents. "Wyatt, this isn't funny!" he yelled, looking up at the cloudy sky, not entirely convinced his brother wasn't behind this. "Dad! Come on, dad!" And this time, there was undeniable worry in his voice.

It was a good thing Connor didn't see the orbing. If he had, Chris wouldn't have heard the end of it till he taught him how to do so. And since that wasn't possible...well, it'd have been a very long day for Chris.

Connor was already attempting to find footholes in the tree. "Who's Wyatt?" he called, attempting to pull himself up. First try was no good, but the second one? Oh, brilliant! He would make it up this tree if it was the last thing he did! And, knowing Connor's spontaneous nature, it might just well be. "Your dad can't hear you, even if he is important. I don't think we're near home. I wonder if we were stolen by pirates in the middle of the night? Can they do that?" All of this was being babbled as Connor worked his way to the second level of branches. "Or maybe we time traveled! This looks like one of those old movies mum watches. They're really boring, all old people snogging and stuff but it might be!"

He didn't know why this kid was so worried. Sure, it was weird, but it wasn't like they were gonna die or anything! Not yet, anyway.

My stupid, no good... "My brother." Chris grumbled, looking up at the sky for a long moment before looking over at Connor. This kid sure liked to talk. Made him think of his Aunt Phoebe. "Pirates aren't real. And you're not supposed to time travel." The last was said with a little nod as Chris walked a little closer. His dad had told him once the Elders didn't like that, Chris remembered. He told him how when he got older he wouldn't have to go to witch school anymore and there was a book he would have to read that would tell him all about his special powers and what he could and couldn't do. Chris remembered the time travel part because it sounded silly, but his dad swore it was possible.

Connor was listening, Chris, honest he was. But the tree was just so very big and interesting. And Chris, nice a guy as he was, didn't hold up a conversation very well. "Pirates are too real, I read a book about them," he said simply, feeling around for a branch over his head. "They don't wear eyepatches anymore, though. Or have peglegs. Or parrots. I want a parrot."

At the mention of not being allowed to time travel, Connor sighed and plopped down on the branch he was on. Four levels up! Brilliant. "Why can't you?" he wondered out loud. "I think it'd be super amazing awesome. You could go back to when you were born! Or go see knights and kings and stuff. Or, or, or you could go see dinosaurs or wooly mammoths! They didn't live at the same time, though." He had to tell him because he didn't know if he knew. "My name's Connor, what's yours? I'm six. I don't have any brothers."

Chris rolled his eyes as the other boy claimed pirates were real. Whatever. "Because it's not allowed." he replied, craning his neck and looking up to see where Connor was at. "It's dangerous and stuff. I don't think it's real though. My dad said it is but I dunno." And Chris frowned, thinking about home again. He didn't like this place. And it really, really bothered him that his dad hadn't appeared yet. His dad said he could hear him anywhere and if he ever got in trouble he should call for him. Chris didn't think his dad would lie about something so serious... so what was going on?

"I'm Chris." And after a minute or two of lingering and just looking around he started to walk. "Think anyone else is around?" He didn't know where he was going but he felt he should explore. No, investigate. That was what his aunts and mom did when something didn't seem right. And this most definitely didn't seem right.

Exploring sounded brilliant to Connor! Not that he knew what Chris had in mind, but he did like the fact that the other boy was walking around. With a great heave and a 'mmph', Connor jumped from the branches and landed in a heap on the ground.

"Ow!" he whined, sitting up and glaring at the tree. Not that the tree had done anything wrong. Mum had always said to be very careful going up and down trees and not to do so without an adult around. But adults never let you do anything fun. And now he had a booboo. And no mummy to put Superman band-aids on it. "I almost died! Did you see, Chris?" he called, gathering himself to his feet.

Connor was made of some tough stuff. A fall from one tree wasn't about to hurt him.

When Chris heard the thud he stopped and turned around, cocking his head to one side when he saw Connor on the ground. "Why'd you jump? That's how you get hurt." Not that it was something he really ever had to worry about, since his dad was a whitelighter. Another glance to the sky as he thought about his dad, and then he looked back at Connor, rolling his eyes once he saw the other boy was mostly okay. "You didn't almost die! Takes more than that."

Well of course! That's why he'd jumped. "Live a little!" Connor teased, walking in the opposite direction of Chris. "We oughta split up. That's what they do on the telly. I go one way looking for people and you go another way and if we see something important we yell back to each other."

He did too almost die. He could've broken his legs! Or gotten a concussion. And then Mum and Dad would have to notice. Ha! No wonder he was always getting into trouble.

"I'm gonna go this way!" he called, as if Chris had a choice or could've stopped him if he wanted to. Poor Chris. No one would blame you if you used the magic you did have to throw Connor back up into that tree to stay.

"We won't hear each other." Chris protested... well, kind of protested. He didn't exactly make an effort to stop Connor or anything. "Fine, you go that way. Be careful!" The last wasn't exactly a kid thing to say, nor was it said out of real concern, but his aunts and mom and dad said it all the time before one of them went off on some search so it felt kind of appropriate to say.

And just as quickly as Connor headed off, Chris was turning back on his heel and walking again, looking around this strange place. He didn't think he ever wanted to be home so bad in his life.
