Day 19: 8:30 AM
Who: Illyana Rasputin, aged 6 and OTA
Where: Near the pharmacy
When: Day 19, 8:30AM
Rating: G-PG

It was a lot colder in her room than Illyana was used to. She opened her eyes and reached for her blanket, but blinked in surprise. She wasn't in her room in Belasco's palace. She was curled up near a tree. But, there were no trees in Limbo. Nothing grew there. She sat up, looking around at the trees and the road she could see not too far away. Then, she looked down. She wasn't wearing the white dress Belasco had given her either. She was wearing jeans and a shirt with no sleeves.

Illyana grinned suddenly. Maybe Piotr had saved her when she was asleep! She jumped to her feet, certain in the way only children were of what had happened. Her big brother had saved her, and had tucked her away here while he stopped that mean Belasco once and for all, just like he and his friends had done to the lady who'd put her in the scary maze. He must be somewhere nearby, and if he wasn't, she was sure the big house that nice Mr. Xavier let her stay in was just up the road.

Once she'd decided that, Illyana ran for the road as fast as she could, and followed it all the way into a little town. She didn't even notice that it was more than a little run-down. It was a town. Not Limbo. "Piotr! Piotr Nicoleivitch! Where are you?" she shouted, running up and down the streets. "Piotr! Big brother!" But, as Piotr failed to appear, her smile began to falter. "Piotr Nicoleivitch!" she called again, now noticing that the streets didn't have lots of people on them, and that the glass was missing from some of the windows. "Piotr?" she said, much more quietly. "Katya?" Maybe Kitty Pryde would hear her if Piotr did not.

As the minutes passed and neither her brother or her favorite friend came to greet her, Illyana grew scared. Maybe it was still Limbo, and maybe this was one of Belasco's tricks. Maybe he was pretending she could go home, so he could do the scary thing and take more of her soul for his necklace. She sat down in front of one of the buildings, resting her chin on her knees, and began to cry.

Lexie had left the gym on her usual supply run. She found she needed to get some more vicodin (oh, where could those have gone?) and she needed a new bottle of aspirin; and there was no time like the present to go and find what she needed.

She had expected to wake up and find Dean. When she hadn't over the course of the night she'd had a harder and harder time falling back to sleep. No, Lexie Grey hadn't slept since 3AM, and she knew that because her lime green watch glowed in the dark and told her. Fantastic.

So, she was looking a bit ragged around the edges as she walked along and her brain felt that way, too. Blinking, she thought she heard something. Was that a kid crying? No, couldn't be, there weren't any kids here.

Rounding the corner she spied the little blonde girl in front of the pharmacy. Oh God.

"Hello?" She said quietly, walking up slowly. "Hey, you're alright... I'm Lexie," she said, stopping a ways back, crouching down to be on the same level as the girl.

Illyana looked up at the sound of a woman's voice, hoping for a moment that it was Katya come to take her home. But the lady who crouched down a little ways off didn't look like Katya at all. And she said her name was Lexie. She looked like a normal person though, and not like a demon, so Ilyana thought maybe she wasn't in Limbo after all.

She sniffled, wiping her nose and eyes on her arm. "Have you seen my big brother?" she asked as she stood up. "Piotr Nicoleivitch. Or my friend Katya? Or Mr. Xavier? He's got a big house near here." Illyana was sure this was the town Piotr had told her about that was near Mr. Xavier's big house. How could it not be? The last time she was on Earth, she'd been in the woods near Mr. Xavier's house. She must've just gone the wrong way down the road.

When the pretty little girl looked up, Lexie smiled warmly, not moving from her spot, it was pretty obvious that the girl was upset, maybe even lost. Of course she was lost, Lexie, she was here!

"Piotr? Katya? I'm sorry, I don't know anyone by those names... Maybe we could go and look for them?" She couldn't help but look a little confused, big house? "How about we try and find your brother and your friend first. What's your name?" Lexie pushed up to stand, walking a little closer to the girl. "And I bet you'd like some breakfast, too, right?" She found herself really hoping that the supplies in the pharmacy had been refilled. Even they couldn't be that cruel... she thought.

"What do you say?" She extended a hand.

"They live up in the big house," Illyana said, as if that should explain everything. "Mr. Xavier's house. He's their teacher." But when Ms. Lexie suggested they go look for Piotr and Katya, Illyana nodded. That was a good idea. If they couldn't find either of them, maybe they'd find Mr. Summers or Ms. Ororo or one of Piotr's other friends.

"Illyana," she said when Lexie asked her name. She offered a hesitant smile. Her tummy made a rumbling noise, and she looked down at it. "I think it wants breakfast," she said, poking at her tummy. She looked back up at Lexie. "Can I have eggs?" she asked, perking slightly. Belasco hadn't let her have any eggs in Limbo. "Fresh eggs and milk?" She took Lexie's hand, because even though the woman was a stranger, she wasn't a demon, and that made her a lot safer than Belasco and mean mean S'ym. And Piotr would understand when they found him.

"A big house? Well, I think I know where one of those are, first let's get some breakfast." She canted her head toward the door and took slow steps still holding on to Illyana's hand.

"Well, let's look and see what they have," she bent down, whispering conspiratorially. "You can have anything you want at all. Candy, too," she winked. She had no idea if there'd be any food in there at all - and it was all Lexie could do to pray that there wasn't any alcohol. She should have thought this through better, or maybe had the kid stay with someone who was good with kids?

Illyana beamed when Lexie said she knew where the big house was. She'd been right after all, and had just gone the wrong way. "Yahoo!" she cried, jumping up and down. "I'm gonna see my big brother again!" On impulse, she lunged forward, flinging her free hand around Lexie's leg in a giant hug. "Thank you so much!"

The smile only got wider as Lexie told her she could have whatever she wanted for breakfast from the store. Not even Katya let her have anything she wanted. Her eyes grew wide as she imagined having lots of eggs and milk and even a chocolate bar for breakfast. "Let's go see!" she said, rushing forward and tugging on Lexie's arm as she tried to run inside.

She felt the girl grip her thigh and Lexie thought she should have phrased everything better. Oh, goodness, she was going to be responsible for years and years of therapy. "Breakfast and then we go looking, alright?" She smiled warmly despite the guilt that hung out in her guts. Years and years.

Pulling open the door of the Pharmacy she let herself be tugged inside the shelves were mostly empty in the food area and the alcohol stash was gone. There were brown paper bags lined up like lunches packed by mom's the world over. There were juice boxes and apples and oranges. What, had this place planned for kids, or what?

"I think I'm going to have one of those oranges," she smiled with a wink having a feeling the blonde would be making a beeline for the twinkies in short order.

Illyana nodded eagerly when Lexie said they'd go find Piotr after breakfast. That made sense. You had to have breakfast before you did important stuff. She stopped inside the store, tilting her head. Weren't stores supposed to have lots of stuff? There wasn't a lot in this store. Maybe everybody had bought it up already.

"Did people buy all the eggs?" she asked, looking up at Lexie. "Everybody likes eggs. Piotr loves eggs! He eats lots of them for breakfast. That's how come he's so big and strong!" She beamed as she thought of how strong and brave her Piotr was. Her tummy made the weird noise again, which broke her train of thought.

"Can I have a apple, Miss Lexie?" Illyana asked, pulling her toward the shelves. "And some juice? And a Twinkie?" She was sure Lexie would say no to the Twinkie, even though she'd said Illyana could have whatever she wanted. Grown-ups didn't let you have sweets for breakfast.

Well, that was simple, wasn't it? When Illyana nodded, Lexie couldn't help but smile in response. Kids were kind of foreign territory for her; but, Illyana wasn't as petrifying as she could be. Well, aside from the fact she knew she'd have to pay for years and years of therapy when they couldn't find her brother and couldn't find that giant house. Years and years.

When the girl asked if people had bought all the ends she smiled again, plucking up an apple. "They sure did," and Lexie was glad they did. She could only imagine having to explain to a six year old how she didn't like eggs because she was allergic.

Another apple was plucked up and Lexie smiled. "Think you can carry these?" She asked, leaning over to hold out the apples before she picked up the juice and the twinkie, too. This was turning into a handful. Turning around she took up an abandoned basket and put it all in there, and one of those brown bagged sandwiches.

"That sounds like a pretty well rounded breakfast there, Illyana," she winked. With her free hand she put it behind the girl, leading her up to the counter. "This seems like a pretty good place for breakfast, right?" She asked with a smile. "Bet you've never been allowed to eat in the store before, huh?"

Oh, this was just sick.

The store must be really popular to have sold most of the food already, Illyana figured. That had to be a good thing. Maybe Piotr would come in to buy something, and she'd get to see him faster!

She nodded when Lexie asked her to carry the apples and took them carefully. They were so pretty and she didn't want to drop them. Her face lit up when Lexie seemed to say she really could have the Twinkie with breakfast, and she practically beamed when told she could eat at the counter. "This is so cool!" she said, bouncing up and down as they walked to the counter. "I's never gotten to eat in town before! It's like a picnic but inside! Piotr hasn't taken me into town yet, cause I'm too little, he says. But six isn't too little, is it?" She looked up at Lexie expectantly for a moment, before reaching as far as she could to set the apples carefully on the counter above her head.

Then, before Lexie could stop her, she grabbed a stool and clambered up onto it, nearly slipping once or twice as she lost her footing or it spun around where she wasn't expecting it to. But, she got onto it in the end, and marveled at how high up she was. She could see lots more of the store now, and see just how empty the shelves were. "People buy lots of stuff here, huh, Miss Lexie?" she asked. "When's the men gonna bring more?"

Lexie loved that the little girl was so excited, it was almost a breath of fresh air. Nobody was excited to be here, ever. They were upset and hurt and unstable - never happy. Yet, here this little girl was, happy and excited just by the thought of eating in the store in a broken down town no less. Incredible. Lexie had a hard time not feeding off of her energy.

"Too little? Not at all!" She grinned. Though, as she said it, the girl was climbing up a stool and for a moment, Lexie was totally positive she was going to watch her fall and crack her head open. Such a potential parent failure.

"People get all kinds of stuff, yeah," she smiled a bit. "More stuff will probably come tomorrow," she volunteered. Lexie, took her apple and held out the juice box for Illyana. "I don't know if you like to draw," she smiled, pulling out her journal, "But, if you do, you should have one of these, too. They're special, they let everyone see whatever you put in there," she smiled warmly, cracking open her own journal.

She liked Miss Lexie. Lexie said she wasn't too little and let her play on chairs, unlike Piotr. But he was her brother and supposed to tell her what she could and couldn't do. And baby-sitters were supposed to let you do the things you couldn't do when your brother was around. She nodded as she took the apple and juice box. "If people buy all the stuff today, the store'll have to close early," she said, just before taking a bite of the apple. Juice dribbled down her chin, but Illyana didn't really pay any attention to that. As she thought about that, she realized something important. "Miss Lexie, where's the store man?" she asked, although it probably sounded very garbled, as she was still chewing her bite of apple.

When Lexie showed her the journal, Illyana leaned over to look at it more closely. "Everyone can see it?" she said, eyes going wide. "How comes everyone can see it?" She'd had a journal tucked down the back of her shirt, but she hadn't really paid much attention to it. Now, she reached around and pulled it out, curious as to what was inside. "Cool!" she said, seeing all the different writing and the pictures. Someone had drawn what looked like a dragon! And, she was delighted to see, there was a pen attached to her journal, clipped onto one of the almost blank pages. Katya had taught her letters and how to write a bit; she could play in the journal too!

First, though, she had to finish her apple. Mr. Xavier always said you had to eat your meals before you got to play. So she set the journal on the table and bit into her apple again. "This is really good, Ms. Lexie," she said, her mouth again full of apple as she spoke.
