No matter what part of town they were located in, parking garages were always a little dodgy. But they always were a little more so at night. Wren's father had insisted she ask one of the night watchmen to walk her to her vehicle during the evening hours, but being who she was (and what she was) she didn't feel it was absolutely necessary. Whether or not it had to do with cockiness or her maintaining her independence was unknown. (Although, it certainly could've been a mixture of the two.) And tonight, just like every night, she exited the elevator unescorted and began her journey to her car—which was parked way on the other side of the level, thanks to the late start she'd had that morning.... and every other morning for the past week. The injuries Noir had sustained from her very first confrontation with vampires hadn't quite healed yet. Of course, most of the scraps and bruises were already beginning to fade, but her bruised ribs were causing her the most grief. Breathing, moving, talking.... all of it was a chore, but that wasn't enough to keep her confined to her bed. Pretending like it didn't hurt, however, was probably the most difficult task. Living in a large city like the Big Apple, it wasn't wise to show weakness, because it would most likely make you a target for the predators. As the half-Chinese woman dressed in olive-colored sweats (she'd changed in her office before leaving) moved across the garage, she dipped her right hand into the purse to begin fishing for her keys. Normally, Wren got them in during her trip down in the elevator, but she was feeling a bit distracted. After she'd wrangled them out, she almost immediately lost her grasp on them and they fell onto the dirtied concrete. She stopped and glanced down, spotting the silvery mass of keys just beneath a large, black SUV. Bending down was out of the question, so she decided to utilize her powers. Before she did, though, she took a moment to survey the parking garage, to make sure no one was around to see. Noir was not a publicly known mutant, and even she had been, she still didn't enjoy making a show out of her so-called unnatural abilities. After coming to the conclusion that it was 'safe' made a subtle movement of her fingers and the keys slid (seemingly pulled by their own shadows) out from their hiding place and floated upward until they were about waist height with her and she reached out, snatching them out of the air. In reality, however, Noir was actually being watched by someone who was content (for the moment, at least) lurking in the shadows. |
