I don't really know what to say. Social media is a Mundane I've never spent much time on the internet. And my girlfriend usually does most of the talking. I don't know how to do this without her I'm still wrapping my head around the fact that Downworlders and M humans are living peacefully together in the open here. Is that really working as well as it seems? If so, could somebody tell me your secret?

Anyway. I guess I'll find an art supply store while I figure out what to do with myself.

Tomorrow's our little baby boy's birthday. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to set up a cactuar-themed birthday at a bowling alley? (More than I expected, that's the answer.)

So by now ah- most of you are aware we had a situation at the Library. We still don't have all of the details - I don't know if we ever will, but what we do know is this:

Ashurbanipal, King of Assyria, approached the library this morning, and challenged King Noctis in an attempt to rule Vallo? Unaware that Noctis is not the King of Vallo.

He threatened Nancy, and the Library wards went defensive, one of the skeletons was killed in the mess, and the King took that as a challenge.

The library went into lockdown mode, and there was a fight. I do believe they underestimated a whole group of librarians.

Nancy was able to knock the amulet off of the King's neck, and that was when the skeletons all disappeared? We have it now, but the amulet is damaged, and the king is gone. I put it in a protected vault for the moment but we'd feel more comfortable if one of the covens takes it, so we're going to reach out to them later for that.

We do have some casualties and people are being taken to the clinic now, but I don't think anything was fatal. Mike, Darlington took Nancy there just a few minutes ago and you may want to visit.

If anyone has any other information to share, we'd love to hear it at the library, since we'll be documenting this in its entirety.

I guess these skeletons have a very specific idea of what a king should be like and sprinkled in cheeto dust before noon is not it. Anybody heard of a King Ashurbanipal?

Yesterday I celebrated my third birthday here in Vallo, and was lucky enough to spend the evening in the company of my family. It was a far cry from how I spent my first birthday, a mere month after I'd arrived here.

It surprises me sometimes that I've already spent two years of my life in Vallo, and equally surprising that it has only been two years. So much has changed from those first early weeks, not least of all that I now spend my evenings with my kind, thoughtful husband and can watch Temeraire excel at his studies (even as I regret that I can provide him with very little instrumental help). I've made a good many friends, to whom I'm very grateful, and whom I hope I will never learn to take for granted. And while Vallo's whims have removed a great many people from my life as well, I am glad, very glad, to have known them.

I am not often so sentimental, and I hope you'll none of you hold my sudden loquaciousness against me. I just mean to say that I am filled with gratitude, to the bottom of my heart, that I am fortunate enough to spend my fortieth year here with all of you.

It has been just over a fortnight since I found myself here in Vallo and I must say it has been a rather interesting time. Torgal has been enjoying exploring the woods and fighting the basilisks since his own arrival, though I suspect he very much misses Clive we both do -

It is still strange to try to wrap my head around certain things here. To see people living for the sake of just that, and not constantly just trying to survive. I will admit, despite assurances that somehow we all exist both here and where we come from, I still find myself feeling quite guilty over my presence here. That it is a break from my duties back home that I perhaps do not deserve. I imagine I am not alone in this feeling and that it might be something that may come with time. Though I doubt the feeling would every entirely go away.

I have immensely been enjoying the different foods here, and I am certain I have only scratched the surface on that and would take any recommendations that anyone was inclined to offer.

I know it's spooky season and boy am I here for all of the spooky things (although the skeletons are getting into the mood a little early? Didn't we have Halloween decorations come to life one year??) and cooler weather and s'mores and bonfires and hayrides and all that comes along with it buuuuuuuuuuut it's also a great snack time! Or, you know, "great" depending on your interpretation.

Also no notes for these friends who I have officially deemed the Baa Boys. Working on a farm is amazing because everything can change in a day or two! All of them have such different personalities too, like, I can tell you EXACTLY which cow is the best listener, which goat will literally try to rip your snack apron off to get to the good stuff, and which alpacas are going to be the goofiest (hint, it's all of them)

I'm really lucky to be a small part of keeping our family farm going. :) Come by and see us at the farmer's market! I have it on good authority all of the animals are super selfie friendly!

I know that flood was hella doozy and all and some cleaning is still going BUT... I am still down for doing an end of the summer group BBQ and bonfire night if anyone is up for it.

Good morning, Outlanders. Well done, yesterday. It's always encouraging to see what can be accomplished by this group of talented folks when we put our minds to it.

That said, recovering from the last handful of days will be a process. If you need aid in clearing out your residence or business or whatever else, please don't hesitate to reach out to the DOA. We've got connections that we can hook you up with to get added support, either magical or not. Hopefully clean up efforts will go quick and smoothly, so life can go back to some shade of pre-kraken normal.

Though I personally will not be in the office today, because I'm listening to people who know more about medical things than me and will be resting in bed, like I promised--so don't yell at me, those people in particular.

I'm stuck babysitting eight children because someone who looks like me, but is not me, said they would. Any advice on how not not stab eight children for being annoying? Or, even better - does someone wants to come watch eight annoying children for me so I can go stab this impersonator?

At the risk of having my internet access restricted again, I bring you all today's holiday (at least in the States): National Sour Candy Day!



In the spirit of this holiday, I bought out the sour candies at the Walgreens closest to the house (Sour Patch Kids, Airhead Xtremes, Haribo Sour Goldbears, Jolly Ranchers Gummies). I fed one of the gummy bears to Lucky and he made the best face, but I missed the chance to take a picture because I couldn't stop laughing.

Okay, so! Things I have figured out being here so far:

✨ Emojis. Maybe I should say this phone but I feel like emojis are sort of a crowning achievement for me.

✨ Car doors. Way more complicated than they look. Worse than those circle doors that only turn one way. If you pull on the handle at the wrong time they don't unlock. But also sometimes they just unlock or lock whenever. I didn't even see the driver push the button, but he looked really annoyed when I asked so I just sort of stopped. But I think I got it now.

✨ Microwaves. Not a fan. Does anyone else feel like they're kind of yelling at you if you don't pull out your food in time? Also they're not very good cooks.


Things I am still trying to get a handle on:

✨ Washing machines. I feel like the bathtub works for now, you know?

✨ A job. Right, so I'm a really good cook and if someone would like to enlist my services, I would be really grateful.

✨ Friends. Where do people "hang out"? Is that weird to put "hang out" in quotes? It's just I haven't really had friends until I went on this quest but there's like... I'm also good not questing you know? So


I'm feeling really good about this. Like really good.

The staff down at the Wiz's asked me to pass along that they're hosting some races on the 23rd this month.

There will 3 races - an A and B Pool and then a fun run. A and B are based on skill so if you've had experience riding chocobos, or just a similar animal, A pool is probably for you. B if you're new to the whole thing. The fun run is for anyone, silly outfits are required.

I have discovered a terrible new feeling: when one's favorite supporting character in the television drama is killed to give the lead character a reason to display his martial skill and wreak bloody vengeance on those who harmed her. The vengeance was very satisfying, but Zhou Yanhui deserved better after one thousand years of service to the Dragon Lord.
