Plot Synopsis

Once upon a time, a baker and his wife are unable to have children - turns out a gnarled old witch cast a curse on their family tree, after the baker's father stole magic beans from her; in return the witch also stole the couple's child, Rapunzel, keeping her locked in a tower. Three days before the rise of a blue moon, the baker and his wife venture into the woods to find the ingredients that will reverse the spell and restore the witch's beauty: a milk-white cow, hair as yellow as corn, a blood-red cape, and a slipper of gold. During their journey, they meet Cinderella (wishing to attend the King's Festival), Little Red Riding Hood (wishing for sweets and bread to bring to her sick grandmother), Rapunzel (wishing to leave her tower and experience the world), and Jack (wishing that his cow would give milk, to pave the way for a better life).

'Be careful what you wish for' seems to be a prevalent theme in this particular tale - by the end of Act I, everyone has gotten their wish and will seemingly live happily ever after. But in Act II, when Jack’s beanstalk brings them a visit from an angry giant, we see how the consequences of their actions haunt them in disastrous ways. No real-life relationships are that perfect, which really hits home when Rapunzel is driven to madness, Cinderella’s prince and the baker’s wife have a brief affair, and as more people get killed everyone else is content to play the blame game. In the midst of these dangerous times, characters eventually confront the imperfections in their lives and begin to accept them by working together. Act II ends on a good note - the giant is slain, the survivors have bonded, and the witch comes onstage to deliver a final message to the audience. They all get their happy ending, but it’s an ending that’s more realistic after coming through the trials and tribulations that are inherently a part of life.

Tina's roll wasn't huge and mostly acting. She's pretty bummed about the lack of singing opportunities but she still crushed her paet and knew all her lines.

Alexis had a blast! She was nervous but tried to keep it cool, and it helped that she and Cullen practiced the smooches a lot :D Her favorite part was the wig 'cause like...look at this thing.

Leonardo rocks a beard and is great at looking like an old man, and so he got VERY into his role. Assuming since it's the stage production him and Glenn got to do No More, and rocked it out of the park ~ have an emotional stage moment between Minotaur and Human! He's a good singer, and has to dial down his energy levels for the role but otherwise, he did well!

Glenn completely enjoyed getting into this and used his deep baritone to the best of his ability. He's NOT BAD but not great either, he's used to projecting his voice (and you can assume there were like 40 assorted minotaur in the audience to see him, with lots of cheering).

Sabrina had a blast. She's on point with her singing and acting and made sure to be on the correct side of the stage for everything. This musical is a little easier because they're not on stage through the whole thing lol but also so many moving parts.

Getting to play The Baker's Wife is kind of a dream come true for Sasha, so she has been having the absolute BEST time since joining the cast. While she was a little nervous for opening night, her performance was solid, her comedic timing surprisingly decent and her vocals lovely. There was one spot where she almost forgot a line and blanked on stage for a few seconds but she recovered and waited until she was off stage to panic.

There is also a cast & crew party at Dean's place on Sunday night. Sasha ordered in pizza for everyone but it is BYOB and any other snacks you might want! There will also be a few different mocktails made up for the under age folk.

Nursey only tripped twice and nobody broke anything, it's a miracle. He sang pretty well once a little initial nerves were out of the way and his embarrassing team's energy hyped him up! ❤️ He's sorry for them but also he wouldn't change them ever and he needs to get something out of his eye yo.

Dean was pretty good, but he was still a little nervous and could have been better. He nailed agony with Cullen, flubbed a little on his part with Sabrina towards the end, and was pretty comfortable making out with Sasha. He'll do better tomorrow.

Michiru had a lot of fun! Her performance was on point, no small parts, only small actors! And it was really good to be singing again, even if she didn't have the complete cultural context for the fairy tales.

Mal had a blast painting the set and getting to put her artistic skills to good use and not in necessarily such a chaotic, vandalizing way like she used to.

THIS IS SUPER BELATED, BUT

Persephone freaking LOVED it. She decided to go mortal form, just so that her pink and her red weren't clashing. She's very excited for the next production to come around.

And Sokka was a lot more nervous than he usually is?? He got through it and eventually fell back into his comfort zone, but he got flashbacks of the Emerald City Players and briefly freaked out that he was going to look that bad/be that unfunny on stage lolol. He had a lot of fun though! He hammed it up, for sure.
