When I was a child, my family were dairy farmers, but our nearest neighbors grew pumpkins. I was five years old when I decided to attempt standing on a particularly large pumpkin in their field. I lost my balance, fell, and smashed my face on a hoe that had been left out. I carry the scar of this defeat on my upper lip to this day.
