Tommy couldn’t actually remember the last time he’d gone to a fair. He was pretty sure he had once. The set up of food vendors, rigged games, and possible death traps masquerading as rides was familiar in a way that brought with it a certain sense of nostalgia. For the life of him, however, Tommy couldn’t bring up any specific memories or feelings associated with some past experience at a fair. So, maybe, everything was so nostalgic because it conjured up memories of movies or something he’d seen where a couple of teenagers went to the fair on a date. Not that he was a teenager, not anymore, and not that this was a date. It was something but probably not a date.
Whatever the two of them were doing was fun and hassle free. Tommy hadn’t actually been on a date or slept with anyone else since the ball at the beginning of the month. He didn’t know if Bobby had been seeing other people and, frankly, he didn’t want to know. From what he remembered the guy had been through enough. He deserved time to just live his life and have fun. Tommy was just glad that Bobby found him fun enough to hang out with a few more times.
“So what next?” He asked, holding out the paper cone covered in cotton candy to the other man. “Death trap disguised as a Ferris Wheel, House of Mirrors, a rigged game or two... where I promise to be incredibly impressed no matter how many times you lose, or should we just find a spot and watch the fireworks?” He asked, motioning up at the night sky and the bursts of color that lit it up. “I, personally, don’t have a preference. Since I talked you into this I figured you could decide where else we’re going. My only request is that we avoid anything that spins.”
