Toby had been standing in front of the coffee maker, the absolute first thing she’d done once she got here was go buy some decent coffee grounds, when she heard the knock.
He knocked. Huh. It’d taken him forever to get there. She’d half, actually more than half, expected him to be there within five minutes, pulling himself out of the shadow roads. Did the shadow roads even work here?
“Coming!” Toby called out and walked to the door, pulling it open without even looking through the peephole.
“Tybalt.” He was a sight for sore eyes if she’d ever seen one. Back home, she’d been avoiding him for reasons untold, but now she was glad to see him. Incredibly glad. Her smile betrayed her thoughts and she stepped back to let him come inside.
He looked good. Like he always did. It really was a curse, wasn’t it? He, unfortunately didn’t look as happy in that first second. His shoulders were tight. Probably still pissed about the kidnapping, she thought, hoping it wasn’t her.
