Newt frowned towards his friend and then sighed, "yeah, you might well be right," he answered under his breath. Of course it wouldn't stop him looking at other things happening in the world, but perhaps Thomas was right to have them focus closer to home for awhile. "If I wasn't cocky, how would you know it was me?" he asked with a bright smile, knowing that there was no way he could be anything other than himself. Ever.
He gave Thomas a shake of his head, "I'm not sad, I'm just disappointed!" Newt teased back entirely deadpan. Mention of their world caused him a mild shudder, which he pushed off in the hope Thomas hadn't noticed it. "Maybe our world is the future of this one? Eventually?" he suggested, hoping that he was completely wrong. It didn't seem fair to see so much abundance. Still, while they were here they might as well make the most of it.
"I'm taking the candy with us," Newt told his friend as he trailed along behind, occasionally picking up new items and giving them cursory sniffs before opening them and trying them for himself. "You have to try this," he said catching up with Thomas and shoving a round, crunchy-textured candy into his hand. "It's a cookie," he read from the box, "and it's delicious!" He put the opened packets into the cart and watched to see Thomas' reaction. "It's good, right? Really good!"
