She moved closer, half wedging herself between the island and Clint. Natasha felt a sudden anxious tightness building in her throat. It had been so long since she’d been this close to a new (well, ‘new’) person that it almost felt like something she’d never done before. It made her feel a little light-headed, and she returned a hand to his hair for balance, then sliding her fingers down to cup the side of his face.
“I told you about how people disappeared. You didn’t.” She said softly, searching his face as she tried to find the right words. Romanoff was almost surprised at how much ground she was willing to give up to him. She’d thought that this evening would be about getting him tipsy enough to fill in the blanks concerning what she knew about his universe. But in truth, she was so taken with the opportunity to talk to Clint Barton again that she couldn’t fight the urge to open up. “But I still lost you.”
It was hard to explain exactly what happened with Clint, besides the fact that losing his family seemed to send him down a dark path that she refused to follow. She wanted to go with him, but she’d gotten lost in revenge before and it had been Barton who’d pulled her back. If they spiraled together, it would never end.
“I didn’t have much time with you once we found each other again. We’re both here now, that feels like an opportunity we should take advantage of.”
