A CASINO NIGHTS ADULT PROM BENEFITING THE VALLO YOUTH CENTER
WHAT'S UP?
Welcome to the Vallo Youth Center's version of adult prom! The theme is Casino Nights--and that is quite apparent as soon as you walk into the already opulent ballroom. The room is set up to indeed act as a casino, with a variety of card and dice games at tables scattered about (check the comments if you would like to attempt some dice games and see if your character lost or made any money), as well as places to sit and mingle, food and drink, and a wide open dance floor. Whether you dressed to the nines in more classical prom attire or stayed on theme a la the Met Gala or just opted for casual, you're sure to find a corner that you fit in.
As this event is a fundraiser, all of the money raised in ticket sales to attend and any additional donations made during the event go toward continuing to fund the Vallo Youth Center. Any money lost while gambling that goes to "the house" will also go directly toward the youth center.
You can see more details below! If you have any questions, please let us know, otherwise feel free to comment if your characters came, who they came with, how many dances they got in, and so on!
TL;DR DETAILS
The party will start at 7PM on Saturday, May 11, in the ballroom of the Rutherford Hotel in Vallo City. Festivities--including food at the buffet tables, an open bar, and a live band and dance floor--will continue all through the night, ending promptly at midnight. Rooms in the hotel could be booked at a discounted rate for attendees. All attendees must be 18+ and no longer attending high school.
FOOD & DRINK
Rather than a sit down meal, food is provided by buffet tables that are strategically placed around the ballroom for easy access. Everything is of the finger food variety, with an attendent placed at tables to help serve as needed and answer questions on what different sorts of foods are on display. The food will remain freshly stocked until 11PM, at which time people are invited to take leftovers. All remaining food will be donated to alleviate waste.
The charcuterie and snacks are from various establishments in Vallo City and desserts are provided by Slayer's Cake.
With a mixture of an open bar that you can order at and servers walking around with a jumble of signature drinks (both alcoholic and non; see above pictures!) and champagne that can be nabbed when they pass by, there is plenty to drink. The bar is stocked with the a variety of spirits to make cocktails, but they also have a choice of beer and wine. Mocktails can also be made and they also will serve soda, water, etc.
PROM ROYALTY
It wouldn't be prom without prom royalty, right? There will also be a station to vote for the royals as well! There won't be a traditional king and queen, but instead the winners will be chosen by random--just to keep things fun and fair since this isn't actually high school. There is no specific prize for this, outside of getting to take home a crown (that is very clearly costume-grade, but it's fun!) and bragging rights, if those sorts of rights are something you're looking for.
The winners will be determined by dice roll in the discord server and we'll be doing that roll Sunday night (~6PM EST) so please comment before then.
DID SOMEONE SAY HAUNTED?
Though last year it became apparent that the Rutherford Hotel's ballroom has an unique quirk in that it's inhabited by some generally mild-mannered ghosts, it's been determined that was more of a feature than a bug! Because yes, the ballroom is indeed haunted, but this year they seem to be a bit more active with the guests. Anyone can see them floating around, taking a turn about the dance floor, or just observing from different corners. If you see someone in old fashioned garb or an early naught's poofy prom dress that are just a wee bit see through, don't be alarmed.
That being said, we do have a few prompts for people, should you want a more specific interaction with the ghosts. You can see the prompts AT THIS LINK and can claim them below in the comments. All prompts are first come, first serve for claiming. Please only claim one prompt per player; if we have prompts that go unclaimed, we will open them up.
WHAT NOW?
The night is yours to do as you please! The food tables will remain stocked, drinks will always be flowing, and music and dancing is certainly encouraged!
The music will be provided by a local event DJ that will be playing a wide array of music, all of it actually pretty good! Though the genres do tend to stick with what you might imagine at a prom-like event, they seem to have a good ear and eye for when an upbeat song is needed to get people on the dance floor or just when something like the Cupid Shuffle needs to play for a little line dancing. They will also consider requests, so feel free to make them.
One corner of the room is dedicated to information about the Youth Center, so people can see what they are up to and where their support is going! There are different boards that explain the mission of the center, as well as current stories written up by regular kids and descriptions of hopeful future programs and projects for the kids to benefit from. A member of staff is always around that area during the night, willing and able to answer questions or give presentations on any of the related topic. There is also a gallery wall of artwork, showcasing the different children that used their talents to make it.
Finally, when you take your leave, you will be given a goodie bag as a thank you. Each bag has a personal card with a message from one of the kids, a six-pack of dice-shaped truffles, a few poker chip cookies, and some coupons for various small businesses around Vallo that helped sponsor the event with donations.
The event itself comes to a close at midnight! If you need help getting home, there are people available to get you an Uber.
