It's been years since I got to celebrate Christmas at home with my family. Even before Vallo. The first year I realized it was Christmas, or at least vaguely Christmas (space time doesn't totally translate to Earth time) I did have a breakdown. Which is okay if you do too, it's hard.
But what helped, and helps now, at least for me - is finding some new traditions and ways to share the ones I was used to.
There's probably a lot of us who haven't celebrated Chinese New Year, and some who don't even know what it is, but I bet we'd all be up for it if you wanted to show us. It'll still suck missing your family, but they'd probably be glad to see you carrying on their traditions.
