Happy International Day of Human Space Flight! For those not Earth based it celebrates the first human space flight by Yuri Gagarin. One whole rotation of Earth in Vostok 1, which at the time was a Big Ass Deal and predated the American moon landing by eight years, which sadly Gagarin didn't live to see.

Anyways have a picture of the Orion Nebula that I found in the Castle archives. Orion Nebula can be visible even with a telescope on Earth and was one of the first things in the night sky I obsessed over as a kid and pretty much cemented the I want to go to there.

Hey, I was going to go see Red in a little bit here, was wondering if you wanted to come with me?

Good choice. I was obsessed with the Veil Nebula. And pretty much every moon we knew about.

[Lance]
Yeah, of course. Has anything changed?

Also a good choice. I remember being annoyed if it was cloudy the nights it was visible enough for my little telescope to see that one. I also wanted nothing more than to just drop into the middle Saturn even though I knew it was an impossibility. Not even sure our Lions could handle that.

SHIRO.
No, no change. I was going to try the mediation thing again but I'm really bad at it. Thought maybe you might have some pointers.

Ha, yeah that might be pushing their limits. But then Black did save me from actual death so who knows.

[Lance]
Oh. Sure, I can walk you thru one I used to use at school. Maybe we can open up some kind of link, between Black and Red. If she doesn't want to talk to us, she might open up more to him?

It was on my list of things to look into for when we managed to get back home. But then everything else happened so never did get at it.

SHIRO.
Yeah? That's a really great idea, Shiro. We should definitely try that.

I miss seeing the constellations that you can spot on Earth. There's different ones here but there's something soothing about what's familiar.

Its like the moon. Its a moon but its not the moon so it doesn't have the same type of power to it.

Same. There was something to be said about knowing the sky in your backyard like the back of your hand. Been a while since I could say that one.

Maybe it has other power? Some weird magic power. Maybe the moon is why we're all here.

It's so weird learning it all over again.

And yeah, it has power! A lot even. It just feels different.

It is, but it's been kind of fun too? Usually we didn't stick around too much in one place to try to get used to the constellations and moons that particular planet had, but I've been tracking it all here and it's been interesting to learn it all.

It has to be in similar orbit to our moon though, I've noticed tides on the coastlines.

Shiro made pancakes! Spaceship pancakes. There was much debate as to whether or not they just looked like dick pancakes. But now that you've mentioned it I think there needs to be cake too.

Well now I have to make some dick pancakes too. For solidarity. I'll leave any cake up to Specs or a store though.

Any day is a good day for dick pancakes.

I can do up a mean boxed cake? But that's about it.

Yep. And having vessels that could technically explore it but can't? Space!Vallo's probably more terrifying than Land!Vallo though.

Or was he...

Look up Vladimir Ilyushin sometime. I remember when the story started making the rounds in certain circles in the US: didn't matter how many people on both sides of the Space Race denied the claims, it was a time ripe for conspiracy theories and rumor caught like wildfire if you were even a little bit subversive.

You mean Vladimir "was it a car crash or a spacecraft crash who the fuck knows" Ilyushin? Yeah, I've read about that. The part of me that loves conspiracies wants to believe it but it got pretty debunked when all the Soviet era manned space program documents were declassified.

Your love of conspiracies can't stand against your love of the truth. That's a pretty good trait to have, on balance.

Of course, one could argue that if it was a true Soviet conspiracy, the evidence would remain buried forever, glasnost or not.
