John would actually be pretty lucky if they ever let him go. Mick had betrayed them and attempted to kill them, at least, once and he was still stuck with them. Granted, the last time wasn't really his fault and there had been repercussions for his betrayal but the fact remained that he'd been welcomed back with open arms. It was likely John would wind up in that same position. The Legends didn't give up easily on people, especially not the ones they adopted into their little found family.
Ray was probably the worst offender when it came to caring about people who would rather not be cared for. Even if John managed to get the rest of the Legends to turn their backs on him he wouldn't be getting rid of Ray. He was the type to always try and see the best in people and he'd recognized that easily in John. It didn't help that the other man had allowed Ray to see it. There'd be no getting rid of him now. He'd just push back and continue to fuss and care until the other finally gave up and they settled into something comfortable.
Other feelings or not.
He hadn’t actually thought about those other feelings until Eddie had pointed them out. Then he sort of had to go back and reevaluate his actions concerning the other man. He’d recognized the crush for what it was and had tried not to think about it or to ignore it in the hopes it would go away. Something would happen and things would change. The only thing that happened was Ray, accidentally, telling the other man how he felt. He really hadn’t meant to do that.
They agreed to talk over drinks… and John had dragged his feet a little on the when but Ray didn’t push him. Maybe they wouldn’t ever talk and that was okay. As long as they could be friends he’d be happy. Or he would’ve. The invite did end up coming and that was how Ray found himself standing outside of John’s apartment. It still wasn’t a guarantee that the two of them would talk but, after the last few days, Ray could really use a drink. He knocked on the door and waited for John to answer.
