The first question, how long have you been here? was much easier to answer than the second would be. Alexis had to think of how she would word that - because telling David everything about the future, when he had scarcely managed to wrap his brain around what was going on now? That was just cruel. And luckily she was a master of spinning things, thanks to her PR training and current job with the DOA.
"Over a year," she replied, picking a piece of invisible lint off her raincoat - which she still hadn't removed, and now she was starting to feel sweaty. Both from nerves and the fact that this thing wasn't meant to be worn indoors - but her main priority had been getting David situated with a semblance of normalcy and a few comfort items. "Since like, March of 2020. I missed you and Stevie and Twyla and even mom and dad at first - but then this place sort of...became like home too. I could find my own way and I'm happy." She glanced at him, lifting jade eyes. "We were happy back home too. All of us. I'm not going to get into everything now but - just know that we're all okay."
That was the best she could do. Just because too much was never a good thing - the mind exploding revelations should be handled in small doses, in her opinion. "I know you don't believe me but things are going to be okay here too, David. I promise."
