If you believe any royal was perfect at any time, just know they were always lying. It's easier to blame mistakes on others to maintain a false sense of perfection than actually admit to them.
Ah, do not short-sell yourself with things like commoner. You have likely done more heroic or upstanding things than I ever did. Without the pressure of responsibility, this lowly life is more freeing than being High Prince, that is for certain. If given the choice, I would not go back.
