Geralt was relieved when she hugged him. He'd done it without thinking, the first time they connected. It had felt right. But here he'd had time to second guess first and hadn't wanted to intrude on her. But he wrapped her up as soon as she was close, hugging back tightly but achingly carefully.
"Good," he said, rough-voiced with emotion, swallowing. He let her go when she stepped away. "Time can be ... different here. Strange. When I came here it was right after I'd seen you for the first time. When was it for you?"
She looked the same as she had then, so Geralt thought it was likely the same time, or near to it. But appearances could be deceiving. "This place is strange, but so far it hasn't been a threat," he told her. "I'll protect you, if it is. I promise."
