It was always refreshing to meet a stranger who could not only handle his sarcasm but return it in kind without taking it personally. John had decided this guy had the potential to be an ally. He didn't have friends, those got killed, but there were people he didn't mind being around. This Dresden almost seemed like a kindred spirit--flickers of magic he sensed aside even.
"I don't keep track as it were, but it's hard not to notice when you can feel the magic around you shift," he replied. A not so subtle way of acknowledging he dabbled.
But the question of honesty was...well, he so rarely found himself attempting it. "So far," he started carefully, "this place seems safe. But that's usually a warning sign in my experience. Or maybe I'm just a soddin' pessimist."
