The guy did have a point, for anyone who'd been paying attention to the activity in these parts. "Touche," he replied, watching as the man eyed his drink. Harry saw a fair bit in that glance, though he couldn't possibly place all the emotions. "Hair of the dog?" he asked with a raised eyebrow, detecting his reticence.
"Good to meet you, John," he replied with a nod. "So I take it you keep an eye on new arrivals or at least notice things most people tend to brush under the carpet?" Harry suspected there was more to it, but he figured John would either tell him his story or not and to force it would go against his innate sense of morality. His secrets were his own to keep, as were Harry's.
"I'll take the general consensus as read," he replied, taking a swig of his drink. "Now tell me your opinion on the place," Harry said evenly, "and don't hold back. I'm a big boy and don't scare easily."
