The initial arrival had been chaotic. Shouting, babies crying, making sure no one was hurt in the process of whatever powerful magic had just occurred. Because even if it wasn’t Sirius’ specialty, he had definitely felt the tremendous shift of magic that had beared down on them, forcing them into a past that they had never lived. Anyone with any trace of magic would have felt it. However, once they had been able to gather themselves up and get the children calmed, they had gotten their bearings and found the nearest place to shelter for the time being. Luckily, Sirius had some gold on him - stud earrings from a past birthday gift - they had been able to trade for lodgings at a local inn. It was in the comfort of their minimalist room, that they figured out what the books they had arrived with had been for. And once they had checked in with the others to figure out what was going on, they had gotten the twins to nap, while they quietly conversed on the ground next to the small bed. “Well, this is mad,” Sirius said, running his hand through his hair and sighing. “Wasn’t really expecting a trip to the past for Beltane.” The entire morning so far had been an absolute insanity. The cries from her twins with the lack of supplies had sent ice into her veins and she was waiting for something to go wrong, for someone to threaten them, for something to get too close. Bonnie felt terrible that Sirius had to sell the gold, but she might have to do the same thing very soon. Despite being in their own room now, and the twins asleep, Bonnie was on edge. She had laid down a protection spell around them, and she still didn’t feel any better. They knew they were in the past, they had contact with the time they had come from, and surely they’d figure it out soon. But until then, they had to adapt. Her mind was racing through all of the history lessons she had learned on Vallo from, trying to remember what this time was like. It was going to be more dangerous no matter what. “I was expecting to wake up with a mild hangover from too much wine and then to head back to the festivals later today.” she said with a weak smile. She was going to do some shopping with Rasalas, and maybe bring the twins for fresh air. “I can’t say I’ve ever had any desire to see how they lived this far back in the past.” Sirius reached over and took Bonnie’s hand in his. “I know this isn’t what we were planning on, but it always works out, yeah? I have no doubt that once we all gather ourselves and put our heads together, we’ll work out what we need to do. Until then, we focus on the babies and us. It’ll give us something to do while things settle.” Giving Bonnie’s hand a squeeze, he smiled gently at her. “At least we’re together, right?” There was a part of him that was worried about everyone else, because of course he was, but there was a large part of him that was soothed by the thought that at least his children and Bonnie were with him. As long as they stayed together, they could get through this. Her biggest concern was the twins, and knowing that they were with them did help some. But then she knew Caroline was here, with Lucas, Sirius’s sister and friends were around her somewhere with their child. It would be all too easy to let the worry consume her, so she had to get that under control fast. After a moment she squeezed his hand in return, trying to focus on what he was saying. “They could have at least sent us with a baby bag.” she grumbled, annoyed that they didn’t have everything the twins would need, and they’d need to go out and get it somehow. “Hopefully someone who arrived here knows something about time magic, because I can’t say I’m any good with it.” If it was even actually a thing. “I’m sorry you had to sell your earrings.” Sirius couldn't help but laugh, as he shuffled over and put an arm around Bonnie's shoulders. "We'll be fine. I have my wand so we'll keep clean with cleaning spells and the earrings will get us food, milk, and board for at least a week or so. I'm not sorry that I had to sell them. I'm glad we had something of value to barter with until we figure out another source of income. The earrings can be replaced, I'm just happy we have shelter and food available to us right away. Could you imagine doing this in the forest right now?" There would never be a world where Sirius cared more about material goods over his children's comfort. Thank god for Sirius’ brand of magic, because that was typically not how Bonnie’s worked. Still, she felt bad all the same. “If we need more, I can sell off mine as well.” She had multiple piercings in both ears, though none of her rings had come through with her. The necklace around her neck she didn’t want to part with, it had effectively become her talisman since she received it years ago. It was extra magic to draw on if she needed it. That would be the last thing she sold. The idea of trying to do this, whatever this was, in the forest made her skin crawl. “Nope. I may like to garden, but I don’t like nature that much.” She moved so she could lean back against the bed, legs stretching out in front of her. “We need to figure out what to do next. Find the others? Get a handle on our surroundings, start figuring out what the hell even happened.” “I agree. The quicker we figure out what went wrong, the quicker we can figure out how to get back. But first, maybe try to get some rest? I can go out and get some food for us, it’s already been a long day and you know the twins are going to be screaming their heads off if we don’t have something ready for them,” Sirius said, nudging Bonnie’s leg with his foot. “Go on, Bonnie. We’ll have the same problems waiting for us when you wake up, but at least let’s be well rested and fed when we tackle them.” “You need sleep too.” she pointed out, they both had been dealing with a morning of chaos and they both were going to need sleep. She didn’t like the idea of him going off on his own while she just slept here with the twins. “Promise me when you come back and we’ve fed the twins, you’ll get some sleep then?” She would use that time to see if she could get them more supplies, and see if she could make contact with any of the covens and get a better idea of the kind of situation they had found themselves in. Sirius didn’t point out that he rarely slept through a full night these days. It was just a holdover from his days in Azkaban and maybe, one day, he’d be able to shake the night terrors, but for now, he just smiled at Bonnie. “Course. I’ll take a proper nap once I’m back, yeah? Now, put up some more barriers after I leave and I’ll wake you when I get back.” He also wanted to take this time to explore their situation and surroundings, without having to worry about the twins’ safety. She only half believed him, Bonnie wasn’t completely oblivious. She paid attention, especially to her children's father. But she said nothing, only nodded and pushed herself up off the ground so she could sit back down on the bed. “Be safe. Come back soon.” when it was her turn to head out she was going to see if she could find something that would allow them to have better two way communication than a damn journal. If they were going to be stuck in ancient times, she wanted them to be safe as possible. |
