It made sense, Maze couldn't help thinking, to keep an apartment at Morningside as a practical alternative to bringing people back to Pandemonium. Especially with wards and the fact that not all people were dog people and not all dog people could handle hellhounds. (Which was unfortunate.) But even more importantly, it had allowed a compromise of sorts, though Maze would be loath to call it that, between her and Regina. And that had definitely proven worth it, with the other woman being more aggressive than she would have thought. It had definitely made things fun, kept it interesting. Maze was always looking for interesting. "So," she asked, turning on her side to face Regina. "What is it that you have against hell, anyway?" The demon was nothing if not direct, not bothering to lead up to the question with someone she'd just slept with. After that strange, but not awful outing with Raylan the other week, Regina had stuck to just sleeping around. It was easier than trying to go on a proper date, which was obviously not something meant for her. Her life was complicated enough, she didn’t need to entertain the idea of settling down ever again because that way consistently had led to heartbreak. And Maze, she was all too happy to help with sleeping around. Regina had initially met her because of Lux and Lucifer and they had circled each other for a bit, but Regina had been too sure that Maze had lost interest when she didn’t want to go to Hell to fuck. It had surprised her to find out that Maze had gotten an apartment in Morningside and had reached out again. A good surprise, because this was exactly what she needed. “It’s awful?” Regina said, not exactly confused about why a demon would think it was anything but that. But she was curious why Maze was stuck on the idea. She breathed deeply once and then sat up, beginning to look for her clothes. “I lost something because of it, once, and I have no love for it.” "What did you lose?" Maze asked out of sheer curiosity, not assisting in Regina's search for clothes and in no rush to get back into hers. "I lost hell itself, except this version here." Because she followed Lucifer out of it, not realizing at the time that he had little intention of going back. Not finding her bra or panties anywhere, Regina gave up on the clothes for now and laid back down on the bed, head propped up on one hand. Looking at the other woman, she raised an eyebrow. "Why do you care? We don't have to play get to know each other here." "Yeah," Maze said with a smirk. "I figured that out pretty quickly." They had, after all, skipped all niceties when Regina arrived, which had been a huge plus in the other woman's favor, really. "I'm just curious." There was a good chance Regina's missing undergarments were by the front door, with the way they hadn't wasted time in ripping each other out of their clothes. As soon as the door had shut, it was game on. Rolling her eyes now, she finally explained, "My soulmate. He was killed by Hades. So I'm not too fond of any version of the underworld." Well, that was more than Maze was expecting. She looked at Regina appraisingly for a moment, as the other woman seemed more annoyed at having to explain herself than emotional. "Good thing I got this apartment, then," she said at last. Then she moved to lay on her back, staring up at the ceiling. "Soulmates exist?" Not that it would matter to a demon with no soul. Regina had a lot of years now to grieve Robin and was mostly numb to it these days. She never tried to give it more thought because what was the point? The reminder that she would never have a happy ending...she didn't need that in her life. "They do in my world," Regina said, idly reaching out to stroke her fingers down Maze's arm. "Robin was mine and I found him too late in life." Maze arched an eyebrow at that, and turned her head to Regina in disbelief. "Yeah, oh ancient one," she said rolling her eyes, before looking away. "You may not have had enough time with him, but you still have time." “It wasn’t enough,” Regina said, face twisting into a sneer. She rolled back onto her back again, huffing. “Forget it, are you up for a round four or am I leaving?” Good thing you didn’t have to like a person to want to sleep with them. "You know how to shut me up," Maze replied with a smirk. Round four it was. |
