The only reason Katie went along with the interview and giving some information, not all of it truthful to the DOA was because it seemed like the best course of action to learn more about where the hell she was. Sure, they’d told, showed her a creepy video and given her a muggle looking piece of technology. At least she wasn’t completely unaware of how to use such a thing but she still had a weird feeling about it all.
Part of her supposed that was natural but what about any of this was natural or normal? She’d experienced some weird things in her life, like the time she’d partnered with a curse breaker on a case and to put things mildly, it got weird and sticky. The memory caused a chill to run down her spine and she glanced around again just in case it looked like she’d end up in a similar situation.
Appearing to keep her head down Katie walked around the city passing places that looked more like they belonged in a comic book her brother used to read or perhaps New York City. The atmosphere felt strange to her but she put some of that down to not trusting where she was. She had looked at the device they’d given her but she didn’t fully trust it deciding to wander before diving too much into it.
Eventually finding herself standing in front of a massive library she took a seat on the steps up and pulled the small journal she had in her jacket pocket out opening it she acted as though she was deep in thought but in reality she was taking the moment to just watch what was happening around her, listen to conversations as people passed by. She even felt the eyes of someone on her deciding to wait until they approached her not.
Peggy had gotten fairly used to spotting newcomers to Vallo, though occasionally she came across a native acting oddly and have to apologize profusely for making an assumption. She tried to be more cautious now, though she also knew how she felt those first few days at Vallo, and she hoped that most people she ran into welcomed someone willing to make them feel more comfortable.
She spotted a woman she thought she recognized from at headquarters, though it was just a quick glance. Still, Peggy walked up to her. "Hello," she greeted. "It's a nice day, isn't it? Have you ventured into the library yet?"
Nothing seemed hostile in the woman’s movements or voice. Katie smiled and glanced up to the sky wondering if this was how the weather usually was, were there seasons here? “Yeah, can’t say I mind it.” Katie agreed on the weather before glancing behind her to the library.
“Not yet, anything I should look for in there specifically?” She asked casually shutting her journal carefully.
Peggy shrugged. "I haven't been in. I pass it most days when I'm on patrol and still haven't gone in. I was wondering what you thought. I imagine there are books and texts that stem from many places. Pretty overwhelming, if you ask me." She held a hand out. "I'm Peggy Carter."
“The name alone is a little bit intimidating,” Katie admitted. “Especially because weren’t the scrolls lost, the Alexandria ones?” Katie wasn’t sure about that at all but she vaguely had a memory of her brother talking about it. “Katie Bell,” she said taking her hand and shaking it. Katie was a little surprised she gave her actual name but Peggy didn’t seem like she meant any harm.
"Seems like a lot of things that have been formerly lost turn up here in Vallo," Peggy said. She shook her hand. "Pleasure to meet you, Katie. Have you been to Morningside yet, found yourself a flat? Or do you have any friends from your universe here I can point you in the direction of?"
Nodding something about formerly lost things hit her strangely. “No, I haven’t yet, but the map was clear enough.” She offered. Waiting a beat before answering Peggy’s second question she finally did. “I don’t know.” That was true. “I’ve been exploring.”
Peggy nodded. "Well, I don't want to push you, but if you check the network on your mobile or the list of residents at Morningside, you might find someone you know. Most people do. Not everyone, but if that's the bucket you fall into, everyone here's very friendly and welcoming." Not everyone lived at Morningside, she knew, but the majority of people did. Or if not, Katie likely could find something familiar on her map, if something from her world had turned up along with people.
Nodding she knew she’d need to look at it, just, part of her still didn’t trust anything here. “Where are you from? If you don’t mind me asking.” She said changing the subject although she did take the advice in.
"Earth. Outside London, originally, though by way of New York and Los Angeles, in the year 1949." Peggy smiled. "But I've been here for some time now, so I've had a chance to get used to it. How about you?"
“1949?” Katie asked blinking. “Uh, London, 2007.” She answered, her mind still clearly stuck on the 1949 part of what Peggy had just told her.
"Then I suppose you'll be more used to all of this," Peggy said with a smile. "And yes, 1949. It has been quite a learning curve for me."
“I don’t know,” she shrugged. “It’s still a little overwhelming,” Katie admitted. “But I imagine some of the technology took a while to get used to.”
Peggy nodded. "Yes. I thought we were advanced in 1949 and yet - very quickly I learned that wasn't the case at all. It's quite the marvel, in fact." She smiled at Katie. "Well, I'll leave you alone. Just thought you looked a little lost. If you need anything, you can find me through your mobile."
“Guess if I jumped into the future I’d think the same thing most likely,” she shrugged with a small smile. “Well, thanks for checking in, it was nice to meet you, Peggy.” Katie was never the sort to keep someone.
“It was very nice to meet you as well, Katie. I hope we'll see each other again." Peggy offered her a smile and a nod and then continued on her way. Katie nodded as Peggy left.
