Did something dumb. Nick wrote the message on his hand for Sabrina to see in a class they didn't share. He was far less likely to get caught that way than with his phone, which was good as his evocation instructor disdained cell phones and was known to demonstrate various spells on them when students did get caught breaking the class rules.
He frowned at his hand. He had been stupid, allowing Aidan to get under his skin, goading him into a fight that wouldn't take place for some time. To be fair, the idea of an underground magical fight club was intriguing to Nick. But getting roped in because some idiot who wouldn't back off the idea that he should be Sabrina's boyfriend in place of him was dumb. He knew better.
Any other week, he probably would have resisted. But things had been building since the death circle and therapy wasn't for another week. So he'd agreed to fight Aidan once the club was up and running.
This was going to be fun to explain to Sabrina.
Receiving messages from Nick via their hands in the middle of class wasn’t too out of the ordinary. Opening up her palm to read those three words had her arching her brow though before drawing out her own pen to write him back. She kept her gaze forward, trying to appear to be listening to the theory being discussed in her chronomancy class. There were so many options for what he could mean by something dumb, each more ridiculous than the last.
Want to tell me here or meet after class? she quickly scribbled back and then let the magic fade away as her teacher locked gazes with her. Sabrina simply smiled, holding up both hands and revealing perfectly pristine palms before he moved on to continue the discussion.
Aidan. That pretty much said it all, Nick thought, but gave Sabrina no specifics. Those were too much for his hand and he didn't feel like writing a novel on his arm. After class.
See you in a few. Sabrina rolled her eyes at the answer. Of course it was Aidan. She wondered what idiotic thing the other boy had ended up saying or doing and what Nick’s response had been. This only added fuel to the endless possibilities and Sabrina wondered how much trouble she’d get in if she tried out the theory of speeding up time.
Probably a lot.
She could never recall what the last thirty minutes of her class was about, leaving it quickly once it was over and teleported to meet Nick in front of his.
Nick was in such a hurry to leave class and meet Sabrina that he almost missed the jacket hanging off the back of his chair. He stared at it for a moment. Was that? Yes, yes it was.
He pulled on his Baxter High varsity jacket and then left the classroom to meet Sabrina. And even though he knew she'd be waiting on news about Aidan, he greeted her with, "You know, you teased me for it but I think it's pretty great being part of your world, Spellman."
He did understand that reference now. He'd made it through that part of the movie before falling asleep the other day.
Sabrina blinked, not having expected those words or for him to be wearing that jacket. He’d momentarily rendered her speechless as she tried to process exactly what was going on. Aidan popping out of the classroom as well and fixing the two of them with an annoyed look brought it all back to her though.
She smoothed her hand up Nick’s chest, trailing her fingers along the ‘B’ on the jacket before hooking her hands around it and tugging him to walk with her. “It’s nice to see Vallo gifting happy things, but spill, Scratch.”
Nick draped his arm around Sabrina's shoulders, especially since he knew Aidan was still watching but also so he could lean in close and speak quietly so that only Sabrina would hear him. "He's starting a magical fight club. Well him and his friends. And I may have..."
His voice trailed off, as he looked over at Sabrina sheepishly. Of course he'd agreed to fight Aidan.
Of course Aidan was starting a magical fight club and of course Nicholas had agreed to fight him. It didn’t surprise her one bit but she still let out a sigh, shaking her head at the ridiculousness of it. She probably would have done the same if she’d been challenged by anyone else in the school and still might toss her name into the ring as well depending on what exactly ‘magical fight club’ meant.
She stopped walking though, looking curiously up at him. “You know you don’t have to compete with him, right? I love you. He’s an annoying gnat.”
"I know," Nick replied. That was one thing he was actually confident about. They had been through hell and back together, literally. And they were doing better than they ever had. Nick even had an appointment with a therapist that he probably wasn't going to cancel last minute.
"It's just easier than normal for him to get under my skin."
She hugged him then, knowing the last week had been especially emotionally volatile for the two of them. They were making steps forward with the fallout of the death circle revelations, but there was no hurrying along the healing that needed to happen.
“Then I’ll be there too, cheering you on to kick his ass.” And probably holding herself back from setting Aidan on fire. “Too bad we can’t just feed him to a hellhound.” The thought of doing so brought forth a wicked grin from her. “Right?”
"No," he replied, though he laughed. "We can't feed him to a hellhound. But he really needs to move on." Because if he didn't, Nick would rethink that decision. "But thanks, Sabrina. We're still meeting up with Archie later?"
She hoped that would happen soon too because his interest in her had been annoying three months ago. It had moved well beyond that now. Nick showing up had only seemed to reignite Aidan’s interest though. “Yep, still meeting up with Archie.” It would be nice to jam with him and Roz.
They just needed to get through the rest of their classes. “You should wear the jacket.”
"Oh, if we're jamming with Riverdale, I'm definitely wearing the jacket," Nick grinned. He had nothing against Archie though. Having survived the snowglobe together, that rivalry was friendly.
Sabrina reached up on her toes and pressed a quick kiss to his lips before linking their fingers together. “Walk me to the next class?”
Nick smiled as he kissed Sabrina back and agreed. Aidan may have gotten under his skin, but he could teach that kid a lesson. Even if he couldn't blame him for being jealous. That didn't mean he didn't need to get over it, one way or the other.
