just can't win
Of course he meant to set off Diggle, just as purposely as he had meant to shoot out the lights and hex the doors shut behind him. Caradoc had known, even prior to stepping foot in Longbottom Manor, that whatever was left of the Order of the Phoenix wouldn’t be able to help him, no matter how much Emmeline wanted it to. He felt a grim satisfaction about being right, but as he dashed through the empty halls of the house, Caradoc found it didn’t please him as much as it usually did.
Framing Wilkes for murder? That was the best of the Order could provide? No, he had to kill him, he had to be the one to do it, that was the only way this would all end. Or, more accurately---
Throwing open the doors that led out onto the lawn, Caradoc felt his mind fold further into frenzy. It wouldn’t work, nothing was going to work, he had to admit it, he did, he would succumb to all that had finally caught up to him after these six years. And he realized--- he felt tired. He felt tired of fighting, tired of running, tired of being pushed and pulled toward emotional extremes thanks to paranoia, and just for once---
Startled into an almost raged frustration, he howled at fucking Sturgis Podmore suddenly appearing before him. How had he--- just beyond the other wizard, a few feet away surely, was the anti-apparation line of the estate, so he had been waiting--
“What are you doing!?” Caradoc demanded, his wand already raised, already poised to strike. But there was a caution to his command, an understanding that Podmore (if it was even him) knew something, accomplished something that Caradoc could not, and that had him feeling positively ruthless.
