OWL TO LOUIS BONACCORD

LOUIS ---

I FOUND under my bed yesterday that quidditch set--- you know, the one my parents gave me for Christmas sixth year? In the trunk that's
impossible to open? That took us two days and the unintended aide from Peeves hurling it down the moving staircase to open?

YES THAT ONE WELL I OPENED it today and Vivienne said--- well I thought---

Quidditch! We should play a quidditch, we should play a match when you get back.

ON CHRISTMAS!?

IN THE SNOW

BONACCORD & ROSENBERG'S 1st ANNUAL CHRISTMAS QUIDDITCH MATCH (!!!!?)

WE COULD GET--- we could get other people, it could be a thing later in the day and--- SAOIRSE AND HOWELL! They'll be back by then too and their whole season got cancelled so they'll agree? Do you think that's a good idea? It would be FUN.

ANYWAY, attached is that picture of my foot I was talking about last owl (
can you break your big toe without realizing or feeling it?), a box of Bertie Botts that I also found under my bed found, and your top-notch calligraphy quill set I borrowed two years ago to write letters for jobs that I.... also just recently found. Under the bed. Note it is in perfect condition because I literally touched it once. Respectfully.

How is France, today? Right now, it's a bit cloudy here but not enough for snow---- is the weather the same? Isn't that funny how that works?

How is Mum? Did you tell her I said hello? IS she making Christmas cookies this year? ARE YOU HELPING WITH THE COOKIES? Will there be extra. How do you say cookie in French, again?

What did you do today? I have been cleaning ALL DAY you aren't even going to recognize my room next time you see it--- AND THE MAIN ROOM.

So clean. You could eat off the floor so clean.

Not that--- you would. But you could.

Sorry this owl is ending with talking about eating food off the floor. Cheers?

- Adian

p.s. if Vivienne owls you and says that we
can't have a Christmas quidditch match because the snitch from the trunk is still flying about the flat, don't worry. I can totally catch it between now and then.

p.p.s. where are the owl treats?

p.p.p.s. sorry for the disgruntled owl carrying this letter due to the lack of owl treats

To fully understand a letter from Adian Rosenberg, you needed to be lying down. There were so many twists and turns and jumps of thought that one felt exhausted by the time the third post script was completed (and there was always at least three). The top half of Louis was sunk into the mattress of his bed, feet still on the ground as he held the letter above his face to finish, quite amused (and sometimes grossed out---did he really need to send a picture of the foot?). You were always able to hear Adian when he transcribed his thoughts, and Louis quite missed his friend. More importantly, he missed this version of him.

It had been a few days since the letter had arrived, and Louis felt poorly for taking so long to respond. He had been ready to write back immediately, but at the same time the post arrived, there had been a visitor to the house that had left Louis lost in his thoughts until now. Or maybe still. He pushed himself up and moved to his desk, taking a moment to stare out into the morning light. The world seemed very different, today, but also familiar. How was that possible?

Adian,

I think a Christmas Quidditch Extravaganza would be great fun! Saoirse is of course on my team, but will we be able to fill both squads? Where will be play? It will have to be early, my sister wishes to host Christmas festivities. Or late? Arista Sykes spoke to me once, do you think she will play? Saoirse will have to do much of the recruiting if she wishes. I trust in your impeccable seeker skills that you will be able to catch the snitch, and if not, we play in our living room!

That close-up picture of your foot made me want to go to Mungo's, so I think you should go too---when are you to go back to training? You need to have that foot fixed before then. As for the rest of your presents, thank you very much, I am using the quills now---are you sure you used them?

France is

His gaze turned to the deposit slip that he had pinned to the wall. France was proving to be a strange escape from real life. Louis' eyes travelled over the elaborate handwriting and long title of the signer before landing on the deposit amount and...all of its...zeroes. Adian's letter had timed itself perfectly with the surprise arrival of Prince Monty. His mother had nearly fallen down the stairs, and it was after a long back and forth in the library that Louis had finally accepted that there was not much to do about the generous (very generous) gift that the Prince and his family had put into his Gringotts account. The thought of the pile of gold down in the caves made Louis' chest clench, and he looked back down at the parchment.

fine. My mother talks non-stop of how she wishes to see you and how she needs to meet Miss. Lufkin. She is indeed making cookies and sending a large batch back with me. I think she has missed having her children in the house; I have not had to do one bit of cleaning, so I am glad you are taking care of it, I fear I will be useless when I return for having forgotten how.

The owl treats are in the drawer next to the utensils!

I think I would also like to try and recruit Comstock. You can take Flynn.

- Louis

Adian's eyes widened, and he was so startled by the names Louis mentioned in his letter that he nearly released the snitch in his extended palm. He had spent the whole afternoon actively chasing it around the flat, and knowing that Vivienne would be home soon, he had wanted to show her, first-hand, his accurate confidence in his own snitch-catching skills. After reaffirming his grip on the snitch, Adian jolted toward the back of the flat into his bedroom. Immediately thinking he had many things to say, he sat down at his desk in a great movement.

LOUIS-

But he paused, his quill hovering over the parchment and his hand pressing the snitch against the desk in brief thought. Would it be right to verbally squawk at Louis' apparently fully professional team he had already seemed to form?

Yes.

You can't have a whole team of professional quidditch players! IT WILL be Christmas you know, maybe they're---- they--- LUDO BAGMAN OWES ME A FAVOR! HOWELL will surely---

Who owns a pitch? Never mind that, we'll think of it, even if it's just a large spot of land. Perhaps even Therese...? Between the two of us we have enough friends people! We must! It will be FUN I AM EXCITED! But also, I have Vivienne and Howell. He and Saoirse should be back soon, I will ask them when I next see them.

My foot is fine now. I saw Healer Philippe on Friday, he gave me a potion for it. It just felt daft making a second trip for it. I

Adian paused now, realizing he found himself stuck upon the topic of his healer and why he had paused training. Rather quickly, he thought he needed two hands to continue writing. Shoving the snitch into one of the drawers in his desk, he remained standing for a little while, caught in thought. Adian experienced a moment of hesitation before he pushed himself back into his seat to continue on with his words.
told Healer Philippe I want to be back after Christmas. He said he will make no promises, but---- is--- happy, with the improvements.... that are occurring.

SHE DOES NEED TO MEET VIVIENNE! I do miss your mum. Tell her I say hello, Vivienne says hello---- that's
alright you don't have to clean. It's actually not that much fun at all? Exhausting, and I even have to admit sometimes I don't even notice the before and after.... sometimes it really does look the same.

Today, I did not do a lot. But Vivienne and I ARE going out to dinner tonight. Except---- I am not sure where we should go. Do you have any suggestions? Your owl might not make it back in time, but I did want to go out for dinner one night next week too....

It's very strange, I have so much time to do things now, but it feels like too
much time? Like--- before, a day off to do nothing would have been great, but now that I have it, I miss being busy. Have you felt that? I feel poor for being bored. It's strange.

I should go. Attached is a Prophet clipping talking about the 1987 quidditch season, a postcard for you from Saoirse and Howell (have you ever been to Corsica? It looks hot there), and a bag of your coffee I found when I was snitch searching.
-Adian

p.s. I DID use the quills, I remember specifically using one to write my letter to the Prophet.

p.p.s. I caught the snitch today. It will live in my desk until we are ready for it.

p.p.p.s. Will your mum be sending with you those biscuits with the jellies in them? They're my favorite...
