Set back a bit in Trabuco Canyon, CA, this Ranch offers a variety of services to at risk children in the Orange County area.
Established a few years ago by a man most know only as Wrex, it was named after the Clan he hails from. A small sign is posted at the beginning of the trail that only says "Urdnot Ranch". There doesn't seem to be any indication of the sort of people that live there, which is how Wrex likes it.
Several acres of farmland has been turned into various recreational areas, including basketball courts, a baseball diamond, and a field for soccer and flag football. There are several sheltered areas for the residents to enjoy classes or meals outdoors while being protected from the sun.
A small farm still remains and is tended to by staff and residents alike. There are a few acres devoted to livestock, as well. Both areas serve as sustainable food sources as well as being instructional.
Indoor facilities include two dormitories, several classrooms, an indoor pool, training rooms, a fitness area, some recreational lounges, a cafeteria, a small store run by the residents, and other related amenities.
The type of residents at the Ranch range from at risk children hand picked by Wrex off the streets to juvenile delinquents who both police and Wrex have agreed deserve - and will work for - a second chance at life.
Residents who have been released from police custody to serve their terms at the ranch have 4 months to settle in before deciding if they'd rather serve there or at a normal juvenile facility. Parole Officers regularly check their progress.
Residents are encouraged to practice crafts, learn to nurture relationships with themselves and nature, get their GED, and practice more disciplined, respectful, mature forms of agression. There are aikido lessons, boxing and wrestling. Sports are used to work out competitiveness. There are trips to do things in the community, and some connections to Asgard Equestrian as well. Wrex will probably build more as he goes.
Volunteers and those interested in working at the Ranch are welcome. If you know a child in need, reccomendations are also welcome. The Ranch is open to visitors.
