Baxter Bakery was founded in 2006 by Audrey Baxter. There were some struggles at first, as Audrey learned how to run a business on her own. She was a pastry chef, not a business woman. She hired on an accountant and some really wonderful employees. Though they weren't doing the greatest financially, they perservered. At the end of the first year there was an electrical fire in the building where Audrey was renting, and the bakery had to change locations. The insurance money assured that Audrey would be open for another year, and her pastries and winning personality assured it would be open even longer.
The bakery went from deliveries and wholesale to having its own storefront. Soon Audrey had regular customers and some really good barista employees that made the business move a little more smoothly. It started turning a profit much sooner than she imagined, and before long she was exploring other avenues with the extra money coming in. She was able to start catering and hosting parties in the shop. Her favorite has always been the baking, though, and she takes special pride in her pastries, breads and wedding cakes.
There's ample seating, along with an old 'sock hop diner' feel. Plenty of tables with chairs, and booths along the wall. There's a checkerboard floor, and a juke box. Recently, Audrey has also added a piano and a makeshift stage in the far side of the lobby, so that she can have musicians come in and perform for her customers. With wifi, soft music, friendly employees and a clean building, Baxter Bakery is a wonderful stop for a coffee in the morning, a quick, business lunch, or an afternoon treat.
