John smiled as he cooked. He anticipated AJ coming home soon, and so he had gotten home early and was cooking her a special meal of some of her favorite foods. Their present celibacy was both intriguing and hard to maintain, but he was more than willing to try it out. She was amazing and he loved her, and nothing could change that.
Even if no sex was going to drive him mad.
Mad was good. AJ had the final plans for their wedding in place, and she was bringing everything over for him to see. She hopped up onto the front porch and rang the bell.
John smiled as he opened the door, pulled her close, kissed her, then stepped back.
“Welcome home, love.” He grinned at her.
AJ wrapped one arm around him, returned his kiss, and smiled up at him when he stepped back. “...I can’t believe I’ll be living here. Full time. As your wife.” She moved through the threshold and into his place. Her place. Their place. So strange. But wonderful, too!
John nodded. “Our place. And yep! it has enough room for both of us.” With four bedrooms, and a smaller den, and two and a half bathrooms, it was a roomy house. “We can even plan a family, here.” He blushed and grinned at her.
“Yeah?” Something that maybe they should have talked about before all this wedding and marriage stuff, right? AJ blushed a bit, too. “You want kids, then?” She said, wandering further in and setting her things down at the table.
“Someday.” he followed her. “I’m not in a rush, but I wouldn’t mind having little Jackson-Jones kidlets wandering around.” He grinned as he swept past her, one hand brushing hers.
“How many?” AJ asked, watching him move into the kitchen. She followed. “...also, it smells absolutely fantastic in here. Whatcha cookin’?”
John glanced back at her smirking. “Oh, two, or three, no more than that. How about you?” He checked things, then nodded.
“What does it smell like, love? I got a surprise for you.”
“Beef Stew?” AJ asked, walking over to stand beside him at the stove. “Extra carrots? My favorite! Why, you shouldn’t have.” She leaned up and in to kiss his cheek. “But I’m glad ya did. What’s my surprise?”
John smirked and reached through a cabinet door and pulled out a small black box, which he handed over. Inside was a necklace of silver, and on it were two charms, also silver, One was a small Mars charm, with a red ruby in it. The other was an apple charm, with green emerald in it.
AJ accepted the box and opened it, then gasped at the sight of the necklace inside. It was beautiful. She ran her fingers over the charms and then looked up to him with tears in her eyes. “I love it. I love you. Thank you.”
He kissed her lips slightly and smiled. “I love you too, and you’re welcome. You make me feel incredible, and incredibly happy. And I want to always make you happy in return.”
She wrapped her arms around his waist and snuggled in close against his chest. “I don’t know how I got so lucky.” She said, still clutching the jewelry box tightly in her hand, though it was now behind his back. “I don’t deserve you, John.”
“Yes you do.” He kissed her and hugged her close, stroking her hair and smiling. John loved her. “We found each other and we made a good choice.”
“A forever choice.” AJ said, nestled close in against his chest. She gave a happy sigh, melting into his embrace. “...no second thoughts?” She asked, pulling back after a moment to look up into his eyes. “No fears? You don’t think you’re ever going to want to sleep with anyone else, do you?” She was mostly teasing.
“I am absolutely certain I made the right choice and will never want to sleep with anyone else.” He kissed her softly. “I am ready to marry you, Applejack.”
AJ gave a little laugh. It was nervous and flattered and filled with love. She leaned in and kissed his lips again. “Good thing the wedding’s not far off, then.”
John kissed her back lightly, then swatted her ass. “Now, we need to eat, and settle in for the evening. “
“Are you sure you want to stay in?” AJ asked. Ever since they’d decided to wait for their wedding night, it’d been a little touch and go whenever they stayed in. It’d been AJ’s idea, and she felt like John was being dragged along not entirely willingly. She wanted to make it as easy for him as she could. Going out meant distractions.
“AJ, We can behave ourselves. A movie, and dinner, and an early evening. Come on.” He smiled. “We can do this.” He had to do it, because he felt it was the right thing, the thing to try to do.
AJ blushed, smiling. She nodded once. “All right. In it is. I’ve got quite an appetite tonight for dinner.” She turned to help him get out plates and glasses, silverware and napkins. She set the table for the two of them, then poured some wine.
He got the food out and set the container in the table, then ladled it out to each plate, and smiled as he watched her. She was amazing, and he loved her. “I do think that by the wedding, we’re going to be mad like bunnies.” He chuckled.
“Oh, God, I’m already mad like a bunny,” AJ said, glancing over at him. She didn’t let her eyes linger for long. “...I’m abstaining from self-love, too.” She admitted, taking a gulp from her wine glass. “Feel like I’m gonna pop.”
“Me too.” He sighed and smirked at her. “No popping. We’ll just be very motivated for the wedding.”
“I can’t wait for it already. I’m really distracted, too. I had to take your picture down off my desktop on my work computer. I wasn’t getting anything done.” AJ gave him a sheepish smile. “All this talking about it isn’t helping, either. It’s making it worse.”
John chuckled. “Then let’s eat, and watch a movie. We can distract ourselves.” He kissed her hair, then moved to finish getting things ready. He felt over sensitive, like a teenager.
“Nothing romantic.” AJ said, shaking her head a little. “And nothing scary. Something funny, maybe?” With no romance at all. Or little romance. She couldn’t think of anything along those lines. Maybe he had some idea?
“Nightmare before Christmas?” He poked her as he ladled out food to the plates. “Die Hard?”
“Both excellent choices.” AJ said, giving a little nod. “Maybe one and then the other?”
“Sounds good. Action or comedy first?” John liked both, but he did like Die Hard better since it reminded him of his brothers, both of whom were older.
“Action, definitely.” AJ said, giving him a nod and a smile. “And please don’t mind if I sing along when we watch the Nightmare Before Christmas. That’s an excellent movie.”
John laughed and kissed her nose. “Not at all. I might do the same.” And then he grinned at her as he started getting the movie ready. He worked and thought as he did so. “Would it help you avoid lusty thoughts if I changed shape to something less appealing to you?”
AJ laughed. “I think I’m going to like your singing voice.” She didn’t get to hear it often enough. “...you want to change shape?” She asked. “I... guess, maybe... but it’s not really necessary.”
“You think? I don’t sing a lot.” John smiled to her, then nodded. “If it would help you.” He canted an eyebrow. “If me being me makes you feel uncomfortable, or unable to control yourself, then perhaps me being slightly not me would help.”
“No,” AJ shook her head a little. “I think it’d be more weird. Like I was on a date with a stranger. Like I was... cheating, or something. I want you to be you. All the time.”
John nodded. “Okay.” He hugged her close. “No changing then.” He smiled softly at her. “We’ll leave exploring that to later.”
AJ smiled a little, cuddling close against him. She lifted his arm and draped it around her, then closed her eyes as she leaned her head against his shoulder. “You smell really good.” She said, then had to sit up just a little.
He snuggled her close and massaged her hair, and her shoulders. “Relax love. Just because we aren’t having sex doesn’t mean we can’t snuggle.”
AJ took a deep breath and relaxed against him. She turned to cuddle in close, cheek against his chest. “I just don’t want you to get the wrong idea.” ...she just didn’t want to get the wrong idea herself.
John smiled, and held her close. “I know. Just breathe. It’ll be okay. We can control ourselves. Even if it is hard.” He chuckled and kissed her hair.
AJ gave a little laugh. “You’re so much stronger than I am. Come on, let’s eat in front of the tv like savages.” She teased, grinning playfully.
John laughed and nodded. “sounds good.” He let go and then moved to grab the food. This would be a good night.
