WHO: Twins + Ty Lee
WHAT: Job Interview
WHEN: 4/29
WHERE: For the Lulz
RATING: Low
STATUS: Complete
Ty Lee stepped into For the Lulz with a smile on her face and a bounce in her step. It was really just how she walked, she didn’t know how to be anything but perky. She was wearing a polo shirt and nice slacks with sneakers. She almost looked professional, but the polo shirt was a shade of neon pink so bright it threatened retinal damage, and it perfectly matched the sole of her sneakers.
She bounced to the counter, smiling brightly.
One of the twins was standing behind the counter, clipboard in hand and half bemused expression on his face. “Hello,” he said, tilting his ginger head to the side a little like a curious pet before giving a smile that was not nearly so innocent.
“You must be Ty Lee,” said the other twin, popping up from behind one of the aisles. His smile was just the same as the other boys. Cat. Who got the canaries as opposed to the cream.
“Wotcher.”
Ty Lee nodded and held out her hand to the closest Weasley. “I am. I didn’t know there were two of you.” She’d seen twins before, of course, but not identical ones. It was kind of amazing to her. “The shop looks nice.”
“Just nice?” Fred asked -- and since he was the one closest to her and the register, he shook her hand. She was spunky outfit-wise. “I’m Fred. That’s George.”
George gave a little wave before moving toward the counter as well. “Or the other way around. Doesn’t matter much.”
Ty Lee shook her head. “I’ll be able to tell you apart eventually. It’s nice to meet you both. And I didn’t get a chance to look around yet, so it’s just nice for now.” She giggled nervously.
“No you won’t,” Fred smiled, and George mirrored it perfectly. Then they shrugged, and George flopped back a bit to lean against the counter. “So? Look around.”
“Tell us about yourself,” George finished. Their idea of an interview was a little weird - but frankly if someone couldn’t get into it and bounce back in a fun way, they highly doubted that that person should be working with them. The twins were aware at least sometimes that they were hard to handle.
Ty Lee did as she was told, browsing the shelves. She could easily yell loud enough to be heard. “Well, I’m from Japan originally. I moved with my family when I was ten, and I was home schooled. I’m married to a girl named Azula, I like movies, ice cream, and somersaults. I’m punctual, good at remembering where things are, and I can name almost all the Pokemon in existence in order.” She grinned at the counter when she mentioned the last bit of trivia.
The twins trailed after her, keeping their distance so that they wouldn’t come off as too creepy, but also looking pleasantly interested. They remembered things well, even if they didn’t bring them up. “From the first game? Or all of them?” Asked Fred.
“What’s number 52?” Asked George.
“All of them, though the newer ones I have more trouble with. I haven’t caught them all yet.” She faced Fred when answering him, and turned to George when she replied with, “Meowth. My favorite is Clefa. So cute!” She grinned brightly. Munna was also a favorite.
Fred and George both smiled, as if approving terribly of her knowledge. Yes, those smiles said, Pokemon. That will serve us well.
Really, they were very dramatic smiles.
“How old are you?” George asked, because he tended to be the more practical of the two.
Fred caught on quickly enough though, and went on. “Are you in school?”
“Sixteen, and I have my GED. I’m also emancipated, since I’m married. I checked into it, I can work like any legal adult. I’m also a legal immigrant, so you won’t have to worry about getting in trouble for having me working here.” She smiled brightly. Her paperwork was all in her pocket and ready to show, hot off the presses. If Khamul was worth his word it would all be better than real, and check out perfectly.
Fred looked suitably impressed -- Ty Lee was obviously self aware at the very least. Anyone could appreciate something like that.
“Two truths and one lie?”
“I can lick the back of my knees, I once ate a live goldfish on a dare, and the first time I met my wife was during an internship at her father’s company.” Two truths and one halftruth would have to do!
Well. She was spunky. George leaned against the side shelf of one of the aisles, and Fred, in turn, leaned against George. “It’s part time. Like, kinda low in hours. Our other employee is pregnant, so might need time off here and there -- so you’d get more hours some weeks and less others. Is that a problem?” That was George talking. Or maybe Fred. Hard to say, sometimes.
“Nope. I just want to get out and meet new people. Plus I’m going to teach acrobatics if everything works out, so a very part time temporary job is fine with me!” She grinned at them. If she failed she knew Azula would be happy to be her sugar mama for a little longer.
Their interview might have been a little weird -- a little -- well. Not interview-y. But at least they didn’t waste their time asking stupid things like ‘why do you want to work here’ or ‘what would make you a good addition to the team’ -- all stupid questions that people faked their way through out of desperation.
“Cool.” said Fred.
“Come in next Monday,” said George.
“Bring your paperwork and SS card.”
“And ID,” George finished. “We’ll teach you how to sell water to a drowning man.” And then they grinned again, cheshire and a little intimidating.
Ty Lee gasped and laughed, hugging both boys at once. “Thank you!” She let them go and bounced excitedly. “This will be amazing! You’ll be happy you hired me!”
“Oh, we probably will be,” Fred agreed nodding.
“It’s no problem,” George said, shrugging and sticking his hands into the pockets of his jeans. “It’ll be fun.”
“Anyway,” Fred leaned on George -- they did a lot of that, really. “Enjoy the rest of your days off. We’ll probably schedule a lot for the first few weeks so you get it all down, you know?”
“OK!” Ty Lee said, smiling brightly. “So what thing is your favorite?” Since she had the job she wanted to know a little more about her bosses.
“Being a twin,” they both said, and turned to each other to give self satisfied grins.
“Also fireworks.” George supplied, because he was nice like that. Also, he appreciated that Ty Lee seemed nice like that, too.
Ty Lee laughed. “I’m glad you like it. In the dreams I have identical sisters and I hate it.” She stuck her tongue out playfully. Being one of a set was no fun at all. “Fireworks are pretty awesome, I have to say.”
They were hardly one in a set though. Instead, more like a set of one. It was hard to explain, and they never really tried to, either. They weren’t talking about The Dreams yet. Because they weren’t identical in that regard and didn’t like to think on it.
“Fireworks are the best,” Fred agreed. “We’re working on developing some mini ones to sell eventually. It’s pretty aces. Otherwise, we like long walks on the beach, long talks in front of blazing fires, and making fun of our other siblings.” Okay, so only one of those was true. Whatever.
“How many siblings do you have?” Ty Lee didn’t know her family, but she assumed they were okay people.
“Five others, not including the two of us,” George said, and the smile he offered so clearly said Yes. I know. Our parents did entirely too much of the nasty.
Fred could only nod a bit plaintively. “Forced to share a room as children, we were.” As if the twins wouldn’t have had to done that anyway. “But none for you? That aren’t dream siblings?”
Ty Lee shook her head. “Nope. Just me. I’m adopted.” She grinned brightly. “Your house must have been pretty cramped!”
“A little bit!” Neither looked too bothered by a cramped home, though. “No worries. We seemed to have managed.”
“That’s true, and all families have their things.” Ty Lee said with a bright smile. “This shop really is neat. I can’t believe I never came here before!” She’d need to buy things to prank Zuko with. Azula would definitely laugh about it.
And hey, there was an employee discount! That had to count for something. “We can’t either,” Fred said, feigning shock.
George only gave a titter of a laugh and a grin. “Can’t say it anymore, yeah? Anyway --”
“We have to, you know. Work.” Fred looked a little sad about it, though.
“So we’ll see you Monday.”
Ty Lee grinned. “See you then!”
