Billy was at the classic movie cinema. He liked watching the old movies, especially the old superhero ones. They were funny and classic, and fun, in a way little was anymore. He grinned, sipping his chocolate milk as he watched the latest serial movie, Doctor X and the Slime Creatures. It was actually a pretty good production!
There were only a couple dozen people in this showing, though more usually showed up later, when churches let out and people rose from bed late. For now, it was blissfully uncrowded.
Ty Lee was trying to find things she liked, now that she was a free woman. She liked shopping, but that was no surprise, and she liked getting her nails done. She also liked movies, and the ones early on Sunday were pretty cheap. It was nice to get out of the house and enjoy a movie all to herself, then try to describe it to Azula later.
She had a gigantic soda and an armful of candy when she went into the movie, and nothing but wrappers afterward. She was quite pleased with the movie. On the way out she spotted a boy who looked about the same age as her. Most of the other moviegoers were older, she smiled brightly at him and waved.
BIlly smiled at seeing someone around the same age, so he waved back and wandered over. “Hi!” He nodded to her. “Did you like the movie? I like coming to these older movies, the ones that are funny, anyway, or action adventure, or superheroes.” He felt bouncy after his time absorbing the movie.
“I did! It was awesome!” Ty Lee smiled brightly, and held out a hand to him. “I’m Ty Lee, do you come to these movies often?”
Billy grinned. He stuck out a hand to hers and shook. “I’m Billy Batson, and yeah. Every Sunday morning when I can. It’s not too far from my apartment, and I like it. Somehow, the older movies, the simple but real excitement in them... well, I like them better then more modern stuff, really.” He grinned, having babbled at her a little. “Sorry.”
“No, don’t be sorry! I like all movies ever!” She grinned brightly. “You wanna go get brunch? There’s a really good waffle place close to here.”
Billy brightened at her words. “Really? Cool!” Her offer made him smile widely. “Yeah! That’d be awesome!” This was definitely a good way to spend the day.
“Great! So what other movies have you seen?” Ty Lee led the way out into the parking lot, bouncing as she walked.
Billy started listing them off. “Doctor X and His Creature, The Moon Men from Mars, Buckaroo Baine, Flash Gordon, The Amazons from Venus , and---” There were a of of them. “I mostly watch the old classics. Sometimes I get around to watching new ones.” He glanced around, then chuckled. “Do you have a car? I realized I’ll need to stow my bike somewhere.”
“I do, and your bike will probably fit in the back. Or I could meet you there.” She pointed across the street at the sign for the Waffle Shop.
He grinned. “That probably works best! See you there.” He grinned at her and then headed out toward the place where he had stashed his bike,
And five minutes later he was across the street tying his bike up.
Ty Lee drove over, bouncing excitedly. Thanks to the design of the intersection she got there after Billy, to her amusement. She parked and hopped out, bouncing over to Billy. “Ready?”
“Yes! “ He headed inside with her and they were soon seated. He ordered a chocolate milk of course, and was sipping it as he read the menu. “So much good food.”
Ty Lee ordered a chocolate milk as well, because it sounded yummy. She looked over the menu, grinning brightly. “Everything is delicious.”
“True. Waffles are yummy but so are pancakes and omelets and... argh.” He eenie meenie minie moed and chose something, then nodded and shut the menu before he could change his mind. “So what brought you out to the movies today?”
Ty Lee giggled and decided on cherry covered waffles. They sounded the best today. “I like to go watch movies on the weekend, to get out of the house for a little bit. My wife is awesome, but you need some time to yourself now and then.”
Billy blinked. “Holy Moley! You’re married? You seem so young!” He gaped, then blushed. “Sorry, just, you startled me.”
“Yeah.” Ty Lee blushed a little. “I think we’re about the same age. But I really love Azula. She means everything to me.”
Billy smiled at her. “That’s awesome! I’m glad for you.” He hoped someday to find true love like that. That would be cool!
“Congratulations.” He nodded.
“Thank you!” Ty Lee beamed at him. “She’s amazing.”
Billy grinned. “Good. You seem nice and we all need love one way or another.” He hoped she would always be happy. “How did you meet her?”
Ty Lee had no story for how they met. So she told the truth. “I was doing a little work for her father, and we met there. We’ve been inseparable since.” She smiled brightly and hoped he wouldn’t poke at her story too much.
“That’s pretty freaking awesome. I hope it’s always a wonderful time for you both.”
He thought everyone deserved a good time and a lot of love.
“Me too. I really love her.” She blushed a little.
Billy smiled at her. “So cute.” He grinned wider. When the waitress came, he ordered, and waited for her to do so, then sat back. “What’s your favorite movie so far?”
“Hmmmm, I really like cartoon movies. Oh! I saw Tangled last week, and it was really funny.” Ty Lee grinned. “What’s yours?”
“Monty Python’s Quest for the Holy Grail.” He answered without a doubt. “Followed by the old Fleischer Ultraman cartoons.” He nodded.
“I haven’t seen Ultraman, and I didn’t really get Monty Python.” Ty Lee noted.
“I’m sorry! We should totally watch both together sometime!” He nodded. “Might work better that way.” He sipped his water.
“Maybe. We’ll see.” She grinned and sipped her chocolate milk. “Do you like acrobatics? I’m hoping to open a place where I teach it with a guy I met, and I’d like to see if I’m any good as a teacher.”
“I’m interested. I’ve never been very coordinated, but if you were willing to try, I would be willing to try to learn.” He nodded, smiling curiously. “I’m a complete newb, though.”
“If I can train someone who doesn’t have experience then I’ll know I’m a good teacher.” Ty Lee said with a sunny smile. “It’s okay if I can’t, I just need to know, you know?”
Billy nodded. “Makes sense to me. I have some time today, and then again on Wednesday evening, then next weekend again.” He nodded.
“I should get back to Azula today, but Wednesday works for sure!” Ty Lee chirped. She wrote her number down on a napkin and slid it over to Billy.
He took it and smiled, writing down his number in turn and handing it over. "Sounds good to me. I'm looking forward to it. "
FIN.
