Who: Kurt Wagner and Princess Cadence What: Chatting When: Last week in April Where: His place Rating/Warnings: Low Status: Complete
Cadence was sitting at the table in Kurt’s apartment, looking through the newspaper clippings, craigslist print-outs, and rental guide pages they’d collected. So far they’d been to see a few places, and she hadn’t been really impressed, though she was willing to overlook more things than he was, apparently. Her standards weren’t that high.
She just wanted a place they could call theirs. Quickly, too, before she lost her nerve.
Kurt was happy. He’d discovered a goal, a way to do something he really enjoyed doing and to be paid for it. He just needed to tell Cadence about it, in a way that wouldn’t freak her out. She had enough stress with the apartment hunt.
“Anything good?”
“Nothing we haven’t seen before.” Cadence said, then leaned back in her chair and dropped her head back. Her shoulders were so tense. She leaned her head over and took a side-ways look at him. “Any luck on your end?”
“Nien. Not vith the apartment search, anyhow. But I may have found a vay to supliment our income.” Kurt brandished his teeth in a grin.
“Oh?” Cadence lifted her head. The room swam a little as blood came back up into her brain. Or from it. Either way, she wasn’t good at biology. (Also, she liked the way he said our income.) “What’s that?”
“I made a friend vhile I vas out the other day, on the rooftops.” He lashed his tail a bit, and wrapped it around her waist. “Very acrobatic girl. Ve thought ve could teach people svashbuckling and such.”
“Really?” Cadence turned to look at him, her fingertips coming down to trail gently over his tail around her waist. “Swordfighting and such? That sounds wonderful.”
“Ja! I hope it’s as vonderful as it sounds, but it should be fun at least? I think she felt...” He waved a hand. “As though since she does not have powers, she’s useless. But she’s not. I hope this helps her too.”
Cadence’s hand stilled on his tail. “She?”
“Mien new partner,” Kurt replied, not seeing the problem with this.
There wasn’t a problem with it. Except that Cadence felt jealousy bubble up within her. She tried to suppress it. It was silly. She cleared her throat. “Oh. I see. You two are starting a business, or something?”
“Ja.” He nodded his head. “It seems rushed, and kind of silly, but a lot of good things in my life have been like that. Like you.”
Cadence blushed, even though she still felt a little awkwardly envious of this woman. Whoever she was. She had about a thousand questions, 800 of them variations on the main one on her mind; ‘is she prettier than me?’ Of course, she wouldn’t say it out loud. She’d just sit back and silently judge from a distance.
“I love you,” she said, turning to look into his eyes.
“I love you too, liebchen.” He reached over to stroke her face, then pulled her into a kiss, trying to reassure her that his eye wasn’t wandering.
Of course she was worried. She’d done stupid things to hurt him, and nearly lost him then. It’d torn her apart inside a bit. She didn’t want that to happen again. She kissed him gently at first, but then wrapped her arms up and around him to kiss him properly.
Kurt’s kiss deepened. Hungry and loving, and a whole lot of need. Maybe he wasn’t ready to ask her to marry him? But he was pretty sure he could spend his life with her. “I can’t vait to live vith you.”
Cadence grinned against his lips, still cuddling and nuzzling close. She didn’t want to be away from him for a second now. Didn’t want to lose how it felt to have his body against hers. “...I hate having to leave here and go back to the House.” She said, softly.
“You could stay here until ve find another place?” He suggested the idea gently, moving her until she was in his lap.
Cadence moved with his encouragement, slipping up into his lap. “I dunno. The girls at the house are going to...” What? They’re going to what? They already assumed things. She hadn’t told her Sisters that she was moving in with him, but they knew how many nights she’d spent away after dates with him. Actually, Cadence was a little surprised she hadn’t been blacklisted.
“..I don’t vant to take you avay from your friends,” Kurt said softly. He stroked her face. “I know that means a lot to you.”
“It does,” Cadence agreed. “My family means a lot to me, too. But... you mean the most to me.” She said, softly, lifting her hand to hold against his chest, over his heart.
“Don’t throw avay your family. Not for me, or for anyone else.” He put his hand over hers. “Ja?”
Cadence nodded. “Never.” She said, shaking her head. “But... well, you know you’re a part of my family now, don’t you?”
“Of course!” Kurt’s smile grew loving and fond. “But I don’t vant to replace it. I vant to...supplement it? You should spend some time vith your friends. Go out vith them, reconnect.”
“I will. I am.” Cadence nodded, but she looked a little nervous. “Are... are you trying to get rid of me?”
“Vhat? Nein! Oh Cadence...” Kurt kissed her lovingly. “Nein nein, I never vant to be rid of you! I just vant you to have a life that’s beyond me.”
“I do.” Cadence responded. “I just... I want my life to be you.” She added quickly, “I mean, I want you in my life. In all parts of it. I love you.”
“I love you too.” Kurt was glad about that addition. He’d worry otherwise. Hell, he’d worry anyway, but he had to trust her to do what she had to for herself.
She lifted both hands to cup his cheeks, then leaned in a little and pressed her lips against his. It was simple, gentle. “Should we look at more of these apartments for rent? Narrow it down a bit more?”
“Ja. I think I found one, but it needs your final approval.” They’d squeak by, he thought, but he hoped she’d love it.
“Did you?” Cadence smiled and gave a nod, still settled in his lap. “Can we go look at it together some time?”
“How about right now?”
“Can’t think of anything I’d rather do.” Though, that was a lie. There was one thing she’d rather be doing.
Kurt had the same idea. They could always check that apartment out later.
