Who: Zelda and Navi What: Nursery Visit When: April 18/19 Where: Navi’s shop Rating: G. Status: Complete!
Zelda had a strange dream with Link in it. It didn’t seem all that out of the ordinary to her, but then again, she didn’t know as much about the strange, realistic dreams that the rest of Valarnet was having. She had no idea that Link and Navi were dreaming about her, either. She simply thought that since she looked at her phone before she went to sleep, the thought of Link with a sword was in her mind. (Her desktop image on her phone was the one she snapped of Link attempting to pull the Sword from the Stone in Disneyland.)
She decided to go visit Navi with new pictures of the garden. Things were starting to bloom already, even though she’d been working so much... fourteen hour days were long, and meant she was away from her baby plants for far too long during the day. The flowering babies were just a testament to how good Navi was at her job.
Unfortunately, she hadn’t brought coffee this time.
Legs crossed, Navi was writing emails to some of her seedling suppliers to place a new order for various plants she was out of. Since the bump was getting too big for her regular jeans, Navi was wearing a maxidress that was comfortable too. Her feet were bare.
Zelda poked her head into the office, knowing to come straight here instead of wandering the nursery looking for her friend. “Knock knock?” She asked, leaning in through the open doorway.
Beaming, Navi waved both her hands at her friend. “Hey, you! What a nice surprise!”
“Hiii!” Zelda came into the shop. It was becoming a routine, coming in and seeing Navi on Fridays. She was beaming as she crossed to her friend for a quick hug. “How are you??”
“Good! Want some tea? I was just going to put some on.” Navi would’ve fluttered off the ground if she’d thought it was safe to do so around Zelda.
Zelda gave a nod. “Can I help?” She asked, springing into action. Well, whatever action was. She rolled up her sleeves, ready to help wherever necessary. She’d only had one dream so far, and didn’t think it was anything special, so yes, the fluttering would probably freak her out a bit.
“Of course!” Navi smiled and handed her teacups. “I take two squirts of agave in mine, it’s that bottle up there.” Navi scooped loose tea into a kettle, humming and bouncing. “So, what brought you in today? Or are you just coming here now? I like it!”
Zelda popped up and rushed over to help. She grabbed the bottle of agave and set it on the desk where it would be in easy reach. “I’m just coming here now!” She said, grinning. “Well, that and I had this strange dream. Remember we were talking about dreams? I had a doozy of a dream. Link was in it. I think it’s because I was looking at his picture right before bed.”
“Oh?” Navi had to be careful not to drop the kettle on her hand.
“Yeah. It was really cool. Kinda crazy and scary, but cool. I’d been kidnapped, and Link saved me. He had this sword--which is why I think it came from looking at the picture.” Zelda said.
Navi just nodded dumbly. Man, she really wanted to tell Zelda - OH BY THE WAY HE HAS THAT SWORD, IT’S THE MASTER SWORD, I TOLD HIM HOW TO GET IT - so she just settled for nodding. “Maybe you ate something?”
“Maybe. I’m on this crazy diet for the film.” Zelda said, nodding. That must have been it. “Hummus and carrot sticks before bed. Think that’d make my dreams weird?”
“Depends on your tummy. Why hummus?” Navi blinked. YES. DIVERSIONS.
“It’s supposed to be good for me? Protein? I don’t know. I just eat what they give me.” Zelda shrugged. “I’ve got a chef who prepares all my meals and snacks now.”
“I guess it’s good for you - chickpeas are basically beans, and they have lots of protein, yup. I mean, I love hummus, I eat it all the time instead of mustard, or with chippies, or off of Pete... “ She blinked when she realized she’d said way too much.
Zelda gave a snort of laughter, then lifted her hand to cover her mouth. Her face went bright pink. “Thanks for over-sharing, Navi.” She said, fighting back giggles. Because she was innocent like that.
“I’m sorry! I just do it to annoy him really, since he jokes that I’m going to roast him and make delicious Greek food out of him.” Navi laughed, glad that her overshare had at least gotten them off of hinky dream talk.
Zelda was bright pink and shaking her head. “I don’t understand how talking about roasting and cooking is... sexy.” She said. “Then again, I have no idea what constitutes pillow talk.”
“Oh, it’s not! We’re silly people most of the time, so we’re silly with each other. I think what people talk about with their partner depends on the two people. What do you and Liiiiink talk about?” Navi wasn’t above sing-songing.
Zelda went rather pink. “Well, we don’t talk about pillows, that’s for sure.” She said, smiling very shyly. She felt like her face was on fire. “I don’t know, we talked about Disneyland. And he needs new clothes, so I’m going to take him shopping, and ohmygosh, is that tea ready yet??”
“NO.” Navi giggled, bouncing up and down. “Okay, so he’s a boy so make sure you plan out a map of attack for stores when you go to the mall. Don’t linger too much.”
“Oh, I’ve already got a route in my head!” Zelda said, beaming. She was slightly embarrassed. A shopping date seemed too intimate for a second date, or third, or whatever it was they were up to now. But Zelda loved shopping. So she was thrilled when he’d accepted her offer. “I won’t! I’m going to be quick, I don’t want him to get bored or irritated with me!”
That made Navi grin. “It won’t be with you, it’ll just be with shopping.” Oh, it was nearly impossible for her wings to stay in. It made her grit her teeth to keep them in, wiggling and biting her lower lip. “Tea’s done!” Quick cover.
“Good!” Zelda was excited. Would that change the subject? Did she want to keep talking about Link? She was so embarrassed, even though she was so excited. “I... I’m kind of excited to see him in different outfits, but um... I don’t want him to think that I’m treating him like a doll.” She added, blushing deeply.
“You have a crush on him. Are you guys going to keep dating? Like, are you thinking of getting serious?” Navi poured them each their tea, grinning to herself.
Zelda’s cheeks went scarlet. “I don’t know!” She said, lifting both hands to cover her face in a very shy way. Much like a pre-teen talking about a crush. She was fairly immature when it came to this sort of thing, very inexperienced. It was good to talk about it, though. “I... I’d like to! I mean, he’s handsome, and funny, and kind, and... His hands.” Her own hands lowered from her face and she ran her fingertips over her own fingers. “...I love the way his hands feel.”
“You should ask him!” Navi smiled, knowing just how that worked. “I know how you feel, though. Pete puts his hands on the small of my back, and it’s ... yeah. Best. He has super warm hands, too.”
“Link’s are... worn. Like leather. Like he’s been working with them his whole life.” Zelda’s hands were, by comparison, soft, white, pale, silky. She’d never done a day of labor in her whole life. “They make me feel safe. He makes me feel safe. Like in the dream. I just knew that I was saved the moment he showed up.”
“He has.” Navi bit her lower lip, wincing. “If I ... tell you something. Promise you won’t think I’m too crazy? I mean, I’m pretty crazy, but ... I dream you too. You and Link both.”
Well, of course you do, Zelda thought. She had dreams about all of her friends. She didn’t realize that Navi meant Dream and not just dream. She nodded a little. “I know you’re crazy,” she teased. “That’s not too crazy. I mean, you’ve been in my dreams before, too. I think you were helping me plant tomato plants that were so big we couldn’t lift them.”
Navi smiled, then looked a little bit sad. “When you dreamed of Link, when he was on a horse - was there a little blue glimmer by his head? Like a fairy?”
Zelda paused for a moment, thinking about it. She closed her eyes as she tried to remember, then shook her head softly. “No, I don’t think so. Why? Wait,” she added quickly, “...Link wasn’t on a horse when he came to save me.”
“Oh. Well, horses are supposed to symbolize fidelity. Maybe soon?” COVER. DENY.
“Oh. Oh, that’s right! They are!” Zelda’s eyes lit up a little and she nodded. “Hopefully soon! I think that would be wonderful.” She had the dreamy, happy tone of a twelve year old girl talking about a crush.
Navi smiled, glad she’d covered that up! And she hadn’t even lied!
