Jace had to admit that he was having fun on the network. He hadn’t been this social in awhile, sticking to his work, his instruments, school and his new modeling job. While he had a lot on his plate, he was finding his life surprisingly empty. It was time to meet new people and to get out there, especially since his birthday was just around the corner.

Of all the people on the network, the one he was most fascinated with was Arthur. He had taken a few minutes to get over the shock of seeing his own face replying back to him. He had studied the man for any differences, as surely, it must be a trick of the eyes or just an uncanny resemblance. There were other odd things on the network, such as the dreams, but this was something even more pressing. He wanted to meet the person he shared a face with.

Today he was in a great mood, moving around the shop, chatting with the lunch crowd. It was slower in the afternoon, and he busied himself with restringing a guitar that needed some work. He turned the pin a bit more and strummed, testing the tone. He shook his head, giving it another half turn. He kept his eyes on the door, waiting for his guest to arrive.

Before his move to the OC, Arthur led a pretty normal life for a young man his age. He went to school, he had sex with pretty girls, he was popular, he hardly ever took anything seriously, and his brother still loved him. Since moving and especially since the dreams began, Arthur could only think of one woman and he couldn't shake feelings of dread and the replay of deaths he'd seen over and over again.

Arthur had gone from that teenager to a man who could wield Excalibur and knew how to very well. One day, he might even use it if the opportunity arose. He wasn't English, but he now spoke with an accent and carried himself less like a fashionable college hipster and more like the king he'd been destined to become. There had been Merlin who was different, yet he still loved him, and Morgana. Both were not from Arthur's own world, but it didn't matter to him. So it shouldn't have come as a surprise that someone was his doppleganger, and yet, it still came as a shock.

He'd been content to think it was all just a joke, maybe something constructed by Merlin. It was quite funny, really. But as Arthur opened the door to the music shop and looked past rows of instruments, he felt dizzy looking at the stranger, because that was a stranger, a stranger with his face.

He recognized the man instantly as he entered. It was almost surreal, in a way that you see yourself walking through a door. Jace tried to keep from staring at his virtual double, right down to the crazy hair. "Whoa," he muttered under his breath, brightening immediately, "Hey! You are definitely Arthur." He set the guitar aside and held out his hand, trying very hard not to stare in awe.

There were differences about the pair of them that were obvious. Style of dress, Jace in skinny jeans and a old T-Shirt with a skull on it, was more of a young rock star. An earring dangled from his left ear, and his wrists were adorned with bracelets. A gold chain hung around his neck, a gift from a girl he met on the beach after his arrival. His sunglasses perched on his head, pushing back the strands of unruly blond. He looked like he was ready for the stage, where Arthur seemed a bit different, more formal perhaps. He couldn't quite place it just yet.

"Sorry, I'm still staring. This is just crazy," he laughed, trying to contain nerves that had arisen on meeting the man himself. "How are you?" His voice held no distinct inflection, attributed to those from the West Coast, even though he couldn't claim that either. He was from everywhere and nowhere, still untainted by dreams of who he was or could be.

The guy was speaking a mile a minute, but all Arthur cared about was the sudden feeling of surreality that washed over him. Not too long ago, he'd met someone who'd been flying a drone plane, but this was by far, the strangest thing that had happened to him.

Arthur wondered if it was just another trick of the town or another dream, but he didn't think so. The guy was much more rock and roll than Arthur was and was no doubt nervous. Arthur smiled back and decided he would be the one to keep his cool, but as soon as he stretched his hand toward Jace, he laughed his own nervous laugh.

"Irate," he answered. "There's someone just as attractive as I am and I'm not sure how I feel about that yet."

Jace couldn't stop staring. This guy was a perfect match, from the cheekbones to the eyes and nose. The only difference was in style. "It's the women that should be irate. There are only two of us. After a bout of hyperventilation, they have to fight for us." He smiled as they shook hands, noting that the hands matched as well.

"I think a thousand mirrors just broke too," he laughed. He tended to talk with his hands, and was always moving in some way or another. He was rarely able to keep still. It wasn't only a nervous trait, but one that he came by naturally.

"Alright, so, you really have to tell me, do you play anything? I love my guitar, and I play a little piano. I've loved music forever. This place is home to me. Do you surf or snowboard?" He had to know just how alike they were, and he was full of questions.

Arthur looked down at their hands. Not surprisingly, they were also a perfect match. That queasy feeling made him reel a bit and he had to shake his head to keep himself from teetering like a fragile chamber maid whose bodice was too tight.

"I'm afraid I don't play any instruments," he replied as he released Jace's hand. "But I do surf. I've never been snowboarding before, though." He hadn't really wanted to before, but now he sort of did. They could go into the mountains during snow season and pretend to be twins.

"Excuse me," Arthur said. "I think I really need to sit down." He was smiling, but the whole thing was making him dizzy. He found a stool to sit on where he rubbed his palms against the tops of his thighs, the warm denim of his jeans somehow soothing.

"We will have to work on the music thing. We should both have magic hands." Jace looked up with a wide grin, displaying a brilliant smile that was perfectly imperfect. As Arthur sat he reclaimed his own stool and the guitar he was working on. He strummed it thoughtfully, taking care of it like a treasure. The guitar also relaxed him.

"Snowboarding is easy. We should do it. If you can surf, you can snowboard. I picked it right up. Mammoth mountain isn't too far away either." He absolutely loved the snow. He hadn't seen much of it since his early days in Chicago. Then it was all sun.

"Where are you from? Have you been here your whole life?"

"I think I should leave the music up to you, maestro," Arthur insisted. He liked music, but he didn't think he wanted to be the one to play it. Musicians got girls more often, but Arthur was a king and that was enough. Besides, it appeared Jace was doing a fine job of it. Jace, who had Arthur's looks and spoke a mile a minute. They were most certainly not the same person.

Snowboarding, on the other hand, sounded right up Arthur's alley as it were. He might even be able to convince Merlin to have a go at it, which could prove to be very amusing.

Because of the accent Arthur had picked up from his dreams, most people assumed he was from England and they would have been right, at least in another dimension. "Close enough," he answered. "Arizona."

Jace knew very well about the appeal of musicians. He didn't have to do any more than play a few chords and women stopped to stare. His hands move so naturally over the frets stroking it with the greatest respect. His guitar was truer than a lover, always there, always soothing. It was something that never left him. "I'm finishing the final tuning before the customer comes back for it. Mine is actually in the back. I'm learning piano. I'm pretty decent at it, but I'm no Bach."

"Arizona is hot," he said, trying to mimic that accent a little, just to see if he could. Their voices were a near match as well, aside from that. He laughed a little. "That sounds much better coming from you. I'll have to practice. So you are a king in these dreams?" He hadn't had his own yet, and he still wasn't sure about all of it. "I wouldn't mind being confused for a king."

The piano was very different. The piano, Arthur knew how to play, but he kept that tidbit to himself, smiling at Jace. It was surreal to say the very least, to be looking at himself, but not be looking at himself.

He laughed. Even their laughter was the same, he noted. "I am," he nodded in response. He waved a hand. "Feel free, it's a pain in the ass so far. Speaking of being mistaken, should I be aware of anyone who would mistake me for you? You know," he lowered his tone a little, "someone I shouldn't play along with, like a girl." After a pause, he added, "Or a boy."

Jace laughed, thumbing a chord and tightening a string. His hands worked so naturally over the instrument that it just seemed to be an extension of him. He played again, nodding at the improved tone. "I always have to be doing something with my hands," he explained. It was one of his quirks. If his hands weren't busy, he tended to tug at strings on clothes or drum on the table. He was always in motion.

"There is a girl. Her name is Clary, or Clarissa. We could have some fun with her, not like that, but teasing her a little might be hilarious." Jace could definitely appreciate some fun, and he was a natural joker. "How about you? Is there anyone I should know about?" He arched a brow, strumming again, looking for a different sound, checking for the slightest tone that could set the instrument off.

It was difficult not to take Jace always needing to do something with his hands as anything less than perverted. Arthur snorted a little, but said nothing on it. He didn't mind the idle guitar picking, there was really no need to explain.

For his part, Arthur could stand still just fine. Yes, it might be fun to make the poor bird see double. At Jace's question, Arthur smiled as thought he had a secret. "Not here, I don't," he answered. Merlin had said Guenvere was here, but he'd not seen her and she wasn't his anyway.

Jace knew that look, and replied with a snort of his own. "That too," he grinned. His charm was undeniable when it came to women, at least when he chose to present it. He did seem to have trouble with real connections though, at least with anyone but Clary. He moved around so much that bonds were hard to form, and easy now to break.

"What about elsewhere? Is there someone you have your eye on? If I introduce you to Clary, I want someone to shock too." He really did want to have fun with this. He still couldn't believe he had a twin. It was all pretty amazing.

"I have a friend," Arthur said after a moment's though. That someone needed need to be romantically involved with him. Merlin was cute enough that his big ears might just start turning red, though. "He might find all of this rather confusing. His name is Merlin."

"I talked to him once," Jace grinned. "He didn't say I was a doppleganger, but he was a little surprised at something. He did say he was Merlin in knights of the round table and all that." He still was pretty amazed at the whole exact duplicate twin thing. "I know he can do spells in his dreams. Can he do them here? I wouldn't want him to turn me into a toad or something so he can tell us apart. We could have some fun with it though." He would definitely do it. He could pull off Arthur's accent. All it would take was a change of clothes and they were well on their way.

"Did he now?" Arthur smirked. Merlin in Knights of the Round Table. It sounded surreal to hear it and Arthur suddenly wondered just when he'd get his round table. He barely had any knights and he'd fucked his Champion's wife. Indeed, the King of the Britons was off to a fantastic start.

"He won't turn you into a toad," he laughed, and then added, "I don't think he would anyway. At least, not on purpose." It was likely a bad idea to meet Jace's girlfriend. No woman was off limits to Arthur, not even his best friend's or his brother's, so why should Jace's be? "We could, yes, but I'm not piercing my ear."

"Yeah. He didn't say much past that. I thought it was kind of crazy, but I was just hearing about all the dreams then," Jace explained. Being a wizard would be pretty cool in his book. He could imagine himself a knight or some hero.

"I don't know about a toad, unless he thought I was you, and you did something to him," he laughed, joking as usual. "Or maybe I made a mess of an instrument, if he plays one, but then I might deserve to be a toad." He was talking fast again, but at least his hands stayed on the instrument. "The earring would look good." He pointed to his own, which was a simple, gold hoop. "All musicians must have one, along with a few tats. I need a few more. I got my first done by a friend since I'm not 18 yet, but after my birthday, I plan on decorating heavily."

They definitely had different tastes and different personalities. It made this a little less awkward and strange, that they weren't the same persona as well. It made them look different somehow; even though Arthur was looking at the same features, they didn't exactly mirror one another.

Arthur smiled a little. He didn't mention that he was twenty, it was just another fact the differentiated them. "I'll pay for a tattoo when you turn eighteen," he promised.

Although the differences were there, Jace noted the similarities. Ego was one of those. He looked in the mirror often enough. They were good looking in a not quite conventional way, which, in his opinion was even better. Jace was trendier, Arthur, more conservative, if you could call it that. Jace looked more like he belonged in Rolling Stone than GQ, which was a look he liked a lot. Together though, they just worked, very handsome twin devils.

"You have a deal. I don't know what I want just yet, but I have until August to decide. You should get one too." He raised a blond brow. He couldn't see that happening, but it would be fun. "We need to fuck with someone though. This is too crazy to waste."

"I think I'll leave you to the tattoos," Arthur said with a laugh. He couldn't really imagine putting anything on his own body, but for Jace, it would work well.

"Next time I meet up with Merlin, I'll pop a text your way," he promised. It wasn't that he didn't want to meet Jace's girlfriend, but Arthur didn't have a very good track record at all.

Jace laughed. He loved ink, even the feeling of it scratching into his skin. It wasn't painful, except in spots, but it passed quickly enough. He wanted more than just what he had now. "Alright, but if you change your mind and want to go under the needle, I'm totally up for it."

"Oh yeah, let's do it." His smile broadened. "Just let me know what to wear, and I'll work on the accent. I'll even take the earring out." He wasn't sure about trying it on Clary yet. Their relationship was a little different then it would be with a guy. He really didn't want anyone else hitting on her.

"I can't believe you don't have a girlfriend here," he said, bringing that subject back. "If you are like me, all you have to do is smile at them." He did have a bit of an ego, even if he was a little picky about who he was with. He could easily attract them.
