Darcy was feeling a bit nervous, but she was trying not to show it. Everyone had pretty much berated her for being scared and obnoxious about this whole thing with Loki. He was waiting for her, and it was up to her to make the actual move. Of course she didn’t quite know how this was going to go. It was all kind of up in the air for her, but she was determined to at least try.
Heading over to his place, she knocked on the door and waited impatiently. This would be fine. Just fine. She had to keep telling herself that.
Whenever Darcy said things like I need to do an experiment, Loki knew it was pretty much guaranteed to be an interesting day. No one else ever said things like that (which was too bad, really), and it was likely part of the reason they got along so well. Partners in crime and all. So when he heard the knock at his door, he swung his legs off the couch and answered it with an amused smile.
“That, I think, was record time. I should keep a log.” He stood aside to let her in, then closed the door.
Of course it would be interesting. That didn’t mean it would be amazing, but it did mean that it would be interesting. She was trying to remain positive, even if she was bad at it lately. There was no one else she’d rather experiment on. “You know me, I’m pretty fast in all the ways it counts,” she teased and went inside.
Right. So.. small talk? Or experiment? Ugh she hated being nervous. “So you were so bored all alone without me, huh?”
Loki just snorted a little, then heaved a sigh.
“I’m always bored all alone without you. Didn’t you know?” he asked, teasing right back. “So, then, what exactly is it you need me for?”
Ah yes, right to the experiment then. “I had a hunch. Well you’re lucky. I’m here now. Okay so.. I need you to um.. let’s see.. come stand over here.” She grabbed his hand and moved him towards the middle of the room. “Now I need you to shut your eyes.”
He raised an eyebrow, but did as he was told. Once he was properly positioned, he closed his eyes, not doing a good job of keeping the amused look from his lips.
“I hope you’re not trying to rob me or something.”
It actually surprised her a little that he was obeying and closing his eyes. “Yes, I’m robbing you. Completely. Because it’s so much better to just have someone close their eyes when being robbed then waiting until they’re away from their house. Now shut up or I can’t do my experiment.”
And that experiment? Well that was seeing if this thing between them was actually real. The only way Darcy knew how to figure that out was to kiss him. So closing the space between them, she grabbed him by his shirt and pulled him down to press her lips against his. Much better than standing on her tip toes to try and reach him.
Really, a part of him had been expecting it. He’d seen enough movies, after all, but hadn’t actually expected it to happen in real life. Not that was he complaining. Loki followed her pull and bent down, and decided to cheat a little by opening his eyes when their lips were pressed together.
Well he wasn’t stupid. Darcy kind of figured that he would figure out what she was up to. It was nice of him to play along though. She kissed him tentatively at first, but when he opened his eyes she couldn’t help but deepen the kiss. She’d been practically in love with him for so long, she didn’t know how it would feel to actually kiss him.
He hoped he wasn’t letting on that this made him nervous, too. Hesitantly, Loki brought his hands to Darcy’s waist, kissing her until he had to pull away to let out a laugh. No, he was definitely nervous.
“I could get used to these sort of experiments, you know.”
There it was, that jolt of electricity that went up her spine when he kissed her. When he had his hands on her waist and was kissing her like that. She dreamt about him kissing her like that. When he pulled back, she was slightly out of breath. She was probably blushing and looked a nervous wreck.
“Could you? Because.. that was a good first one. But maybe we should try it again to make sure?”
“Yes. Absolutely. Most people do several experiments and compare the data, right?” Loki laughed again, but less nervous now and more just ... Happy. He’d expected to wait longer for her, which he was fine with, and this was a more than a pleasant surprise. “Maybe you could help a bit, though. If I have to bend down every time we do this, I’m going to throw my back out. Could we meet half way maybe?”
“Exactly. We have to try it a bunch of times to make sure that it’s right.” Though she already knew. Too many people pushed her and they had been right. She just had to suck it up and go with it. “Oh. Right. Yeah that’s a good idea.” She leaned up on her tip toes and wished for a box. Leaning in again, Darcy kissed him slower this time, sliding her fingers into his hair.
It was, cliche as it sounded, even better than he’d imagined it would be. Maybe because he felt it was so overdue. Either way, Loki wrapped his arms around Darcy a bit more to help keep her up as she stood on her toes, and he was more than fine with slow kissing. Slow kissing gave him plenty of opportunity to enjoy the moment and remember it.
Cliche perhaps but right on the money. It was definitely long overdue. There was definitely something there, and she wanted more. Pressing closer up against him, the slowness of the kiss didn’t last very long. Darcy kept kissing him a bit faster and harder the more into the kiss she got. She didn’t even think much about having to catch her breath. She didn’t really want to stop.
There were definitely, definitely, worse ways to spend an evening than kissing the woman he was in love with, Loki figured. He hadn’t been lying - he could get used to this. He already was getting used to it. Unlike Darcy, though, he did stop, giving her another brief kiss.
“We’ve got all the time in the world, you know,” Loki told her, his voice a fond murmur.
This was definitely on the top of her list as far as experiments went. She could get used to this too, now that she’d actually done it. Darcy realized that there wasn’t any going back from all of this. Once you kissed someone, that was it, right? When he pulled back, she nearly pouted.
“Seriously? You’re going to give me the ‘let’s wait’ talk?”
“Not in the slightest. I think there’s been enough waiting.” He pressed his finger to the tip of her nose. “Just that there’s an awful lot of kissing ahead of us and it might be in both our interests if we do some pacing. Because I plan on keeping you here some time.”
Darcy smiled up at him a bit coyly though it turned to a smirk a second later. “Pacing? All right, well then you control how fast we go because apparently I’m too quick for you.” Yeah she liked to needle him, even when it came to that. “You do? Well.. looks like you’ll have to convince me.”
“Pardon me for wanting to savour every moment I can with you. I’ll try to be inconsiderate and selfish a bit more.” He snorted, teasing her right back. “I’m not going to convince you of anything. You’ll stay regardless because you love me that much.”
“Savoring is fine, that doesn’t mean that you have to go slowly. I think.” Well maybe a little slowness wouldn’t be so bad. She would try to go slow anyway. It would be hard for her. “Oh I do, do I? How are you so sure that I do? You’re awfully sure that I do.”
“Well, the fact you’re still standing here, trying to call my bluff for one.” Loki laughed. “I never said slowly. Only that we should pace. Like ... I don’t know. Running or something.”
Her eyes narrowed slightly at him and then shook her head a little in amusement. “Pace? I’m not sure what that even means. Pace. Okay, you decide the pace then. And I am calling your bluff. I could leave now if you’d want.”
“I don’t want. I’m just ... Very nervous. If you have to know. You’re making me talk in circles, I’m not good at that.” He laughed again. “I’d like to kiss you thoroughly, and thoroughly takes a bit of time.”
“Don’t be nervous. I mean I’m nervous too, but you’ve already kissed me once. Nothing to be nervous about.” It was cute the way he was talking in circles though, since he didn’t do it very often if ever. “Then you should kiss me thoroughly. Take all the time you need, I’m not going anywhere.” She took his hand and lead him over to the couch and sat down quite close to him. “This better?”
“Patronizing me isn’t going to help,” he pointed out, looking amused. Once they sat down, his face turned a bit more serious, and he frowned slightly. “I’m not nervous about this, not now, but I feel ...” Loki paused, searching for the words. “I spoke with my brother. About the dreams. And the way he talks, and you talk, I know it’s not going to be all sunshine and rainbows. I certainly don’t want this to get messed up because of some dreams.”
Ah that. Serious talk time. Okay Darcy could do that. “That’s part of the reason I’ve been nervous. I just.. not even because of the bad things. But if the same thing happens to you that happened to Thor.. I mean you’re going to be some kind of frickin god. How am I supposed to compete with that? I can’t. I don’t have any .. anything.” She was just a stupid Midgardian. “I don’t want it to get messed up either. I just don’t want you to forget how I feel about you.”
Loki scoffed. "How could I ever forget that. I suppose these are all bridges we'll simply worry about crossing when we get there."
“I know that you say that now. I won’t leave you. No matter what. Just remember that I’m here, and you’ve got me. Just.. remember okay?” She gave him a Look. It was those bridges that she worried about most.
“I honestly don’t see how I won’t.” He frowned. “I promise you I’ll remember. Heart and fingers crossed, twice.”
“You better not, or I will taze you faster than you can say ‘No please don’t.’ Got it?” she gave him a smile and then leaned in to press her lips against his. “So is this better? Sitting and making out?”
He all too happily returned the kiss, smiling against her lips. “Much better. I think we should do this often.”
“I was hoping you’d say that. Because I’m not sure I know how to go slow.” Fair warning. She slid her fingers into his hair and tugged him a bit closer to her.
“If you keep doing that, I’m not sure I could, either,” Loki murmured before going in for the kiss.
Oh that’s what she liked to hear. Darcy didn’t say anything else, she just kept kissing him. Her hands might have been wandering a bit. She wasn’t passing up a chance to feel him up.
