Thor was at the Baker Street Bar early, for they had a nice grill area, too, and his work had been lacking in good food today, so he was there for the food as well as the beer and the company. He had had a good day and was hoping it would be an even better night.
He always enjoyed spending time with his sisterfriend, Tessa. She was a smart and beautiful woman and he admired her.
Tessa arrived as close to on-time as life, the universe, and traffic would allow. Despite how she feigned reluctance, she was looking forward to sharing her happy news with Thor and talking with him in person. Thor was never hard to spot, unless he wanted to be, so it didn’t take her long to find him once she had arrived.
Thor smiled as he rose, and grinned as he reached out to hug her, and he smiled wider. “Hello, sister.” He kissed her hair then and nodded. “Congratulations.”
She hugged him back, sighing contentedly. “Thanks,” she said, smiling up at him. “So...how’s the pup? And Natasha?”
He settled to his chair and smiled. “Both are well. The pup is adapting to life with us quite quickly, and we are learning how to pup-proof the house.” He chuckled. “And Natasha is well. As gorgeous now as she has ever been.” His smile went goofy as he spoke of her.
Tessa sat down with him, tucking a wayward strand of hair back into her ponytail. “That’s good.” Yeah. Thor was obviously smitten, and it was adorable. “Have you guys set a date yet? And before you ask, no, Zach and I have not.”
“No, though we are aiming for fall. We haven’t even told everyone or made an announcement yet. So... we are still going by ear.” He smiled at her.
“All right,” she said, her tone playful, “I will just keep my mouth shut until I hear from you.” She was going to be standing up with him after all. Unless they flew to Vegas on a whim, or something, she imagined there would be fittings, and rehearsals, and such. It wasn’t like she’d wind up hearing on the news. “As long as you’re enjoying the journey.”
And clearly, he was.
“I very much am, and I hope you get to as well.” He smiled. He looked forward to seeing her have as much joy as he did, and finding the little things on the path to that joy’s increase.
“In the meantime, how is work?”
“Work is okay,” she said, shrugging her shoulders. “I’ve become more and more aware of my function as a reaper, too,” she added, lowering her voice a bit. Of course, Thor had been right on in his guess that Zach had come into Zeus’ full power, but Tessa had come into hers as well.
Thor leaned forward, and nodded, eyes scanning her. Power subtle yet awesome he could sense. He smiled softly. “Congratulations, sister. Have you had to perform it since coming into it?”
“I haven’t lost a patient on my watch lately,” she said, shaking her head. “But I did find myself in the hospice wing, sitting with an old man who went in his sleep while I was with him. And I’m almost constantly aware of things.”
Thor nodded. “I feel thunder and lightning from far away, and I hear when people I am connected to are in danger, especially if they call my name.” He smiled softly. “It is weird, sometimes.”
“I can feel it when a child is born,” she said, smiling. Sure, birth wasn’t specifically part of her domain, but it was the other side of the coin, the beginning of a new life; and death was part of life. “It’s really beautiful.”
Thor’s face softened yet more. “Truly a gift. I can only imagine.” He smiled softly at her. “You are truly amazing, sister, and I look forward to seeing you find your life and your joys for a long time to come.” He chuckled. “A very long time.”
She nodded, no longer afraid of facing a potential eternity alone. She had found a love in Zach, and she had her brother, Thor; and she had no doubt that she would meet many friends along the way. “As am I.”
Thor smiled and gripped her shoulder warmly. It was always good to not be alone.
