WHO: Superman and Batman. Technically.
WHEN: Thursday Night
WHERE: Los Angeles Skyline
WHAT: Sorting matters out.
A flash of Red and Blue streaked in the twilight, in spite of the dark settling around the city. John sighed to himself behind the cowl.
Some people were unclear of the concept.
Clark landed next to the Batman, wishing rather unfairly that he had picked up that X-Ray vision he had from his dreams. Sure, it would be sort of like cheating, but he had to know for sure if this was Bruce Wayne or someone else.
John wasn't going to start the conversation, and Clark seemed to understand that much. Clearly his throat rather awkwardly, the man called Super tried to engage.
"Greetings. I think we might share the same dreams, Batman?"
There was no way to make that sound less awkward, but John seemed only confused. If there had been some dude in spandex flying around Gotham, he was pretty sure that would have registered somewhere. "What makes you think that?"
Clark seemed to understand and yet not. He wasn't the Batman who knew him? How many of these men were running around? He shook his head, looking back out over the city. It was time to take a calculated risk.
"Didn't realize someone else had dreams of being the Batman. Someone besides Bruce."
That got a reaction. John's shoulders straightened, and he couldn't help feeling uncomfortable. Even in this world with Bruce Wayne as a total stranger, he didn't feel like he could live up to the legend.
"... he didn't keep going forever." That would answer the question, at least.
Clark frowned a little, but it made sense to a degree. "He was a friend, in my dreams. Or as close as he ever got to one."
This meant forming the League would be more problematic. He didn't quite envy Mr. Stark, but his team sure seemed to have formed more naturally.
There was a lot of work to do for his.
"My apologies, son." Even with whatever John was doing to cover his voice, Clark could tell he was young. Partially because of the way he scowled under the mask. "Thank you for your help." He flew off from the sentinel grounded on the rooftop, unaware (or uncaring) of the intense irritation still on the Batman's face.
"Showoff," John muttered under his breath, pulling out his zipline to head out to patrol.
