It might be a little crazy, what Kurt was doing. The wind rushed by in his hair and his tail kept him from falling as he scaled along the building, leaping out over traffic, to grab onto the next ledge and propel himself down the roof.
He let out a woop. This might be really really crazy, but it was a hell of a lot of fun.
Ty Lee was on the street, just wandering. She didn’t have a job anymore, she didn’t go to school, and she still didn’t have many friends of her own. She hadn’t anticipated the effects free time would have on her mood. The thing with Khamul wasn’t helping either, but mostly she was bored, a thing she wouldn’t have believed possible a month earlier.
That is, until she saw the crazy man playing on the roof. Ty Lee smirked. She could do that.
Kurt caught himself with his tail on a fire escape, laughing and swinging, before bamfing back to the roof. “Ja..ja..this is very gutt.” He took another running leap.
Ty Lee watched where he was going, and quickly bounced up onto a mailbox, then a streetlamp. A second story window was open close to the lightpost, and she took advantage of it. After a moment of panic while she tried to balance and succeeded, she hauled herself up onto the windowsill above, and then onto the roof.
This guy was good. He was doing impossible things. Ty Lee was becoming jealous of people with powers. All she ever had was skill, it seemed, and powers trumped skill.
Kurt led her on a merry chase, and about half-way through he realized he wasn’t alone. That only made him push farther, to see what sort of skill this person had, if he or she could keep up with him. The streets rushed by below and there was only the thrill of the moment.
She gauged how he was moving, and took a running leap after him, rolling neatly on the other side. She bounced to her feet, using her momentum to keep running after him. She wanted to stay in practice, after all. She smiled maniacally as she chased him, feeling right, for once.
Kurt stopped on a roof top, turning to watch the girl as she got closer. He raised an eyebrow when he realized it was a girl. He grinned at her. “That vas a good run, liebchen! You’re very skilled, to keep up vith me!”
Ty Lee bowed playfully when she heard the compliment. “You’re good yourself! Some of those jumps were amazing, I was sure you wouldn’t make them!”
“Neither vas I!” Kurt laughed, the sound good natured and bright. “Doing something in a dream, versus in real life is quite different.” He flashed pointy teeth, eyes bright and yellow. He’d forgotten to turn on the image inducer.
Ty Lee grinned, not at all bothered by his appearance. He was nice, and that was what counted. “That’s true. I have so many things I need to practice from the dreams!” Like chi blocking. She understood the theory, but she hadn’t done it. “I’m Ty Lee.” She held out her hand, so pleased she could introduce herself to a stranger like a real person, now.
“Kurt. Kurt Vagner.” He held out his hand, his grip soft thanks to his fur, if a bit odd due to only having three digits. “I admit I’m nervous about some aspects of my powers. But I’m vorking on them.”
Ty Lee rubbed his fur with her thumb after shaking his hand. “I knew you have powers! What do you do?”
“Vell, aside from the tail.” The tail wrapped around her waist, because it was a flirty thing. “I can teleport!” And then a second later they were both on another rooftop nearby. He grinned at her.
Ty Lee giggled at the tail, and gasped when she found herself suddenly on a different rooftop. “Wow! That was amazing!” His powers weren’t like bending at all!
“It is! It vas scary at first.” Kurt admitted, his skin darkening under his fur. “I vas alvays afraid that I vould put me or someone into a vall, vhich vould be fatal. Painfully. I have to see vhere I’m going. Only in dire circumstances vould I try that othervise.”
Ty Lee nodded. “That’s still pretty cool. I don’t have any special powers.” She still felt kind of sad about it. If she had firebending she could have stopped Azula from getting shot, she could have killed Ozai on her own, and she could have incinerated Khamul for hurting her.
“If you could keep up vith me, miss, then you have skill, and that can trump power in many cases,” Kurt said, seriously. “I had a friend. She vas a veather vitch. Call down lightning and call up the vind. But she lost her power. Yet she beat another mutant, vith great power, in single combat, using only a knife and her vits. Power is not everything.”
“I guess, but having both is best.” Ty Lee said with a nod. “Controlling the weather would be a lot of fun!” She could make it snow in the winter again! “Where are you from?’
“Germany.” Kurt was grinning. “Vell, I vas born there, but I’ve been all over the vorld. Did you immigrate too?”
Ty Lee nodded. “I was raised in Japan until I was ten. I came over with my family.” Close enough. “Where did you go? What did you see? Was it amazing?” She wanted to see more of the world, to go exploring and experience new things.
“I vas a fisherman. So I saw a lot of ports.” And committed more sin than he’d really told his girlfriend about, but some things were better left forgotten. “I vanted to reinvent myself, so I’m here now, and learning other things.”
“Like awesome acrobatics.” Ty Lee said with a grin. “Being fisherman is crappy, people work hard so they don’t have to do that. What do you do now?”
“I go to school.” He grinned at her. “I’m still trying to find vhat I vant to study. I know vhat I love but I don’t think I can make a career of it.”
“What do you love?” She could maybe think of a couple jobs. It was a question she’d been thinking about herself, recently. In the dreams she’d loved the circus, but it meant traveling and she didn’t think Azula would want that.
“Svashbuckling.” He grinned, and made a fencing motion with his arm. “I could be in movies, but those kinds of movies aren’t really in demand.”
“We could be pirates!” Ty Lee said with a laugh. “You know about boats, I know about treasure, we’d make a great team!”
Kurt laughed. It was a big belly laugh. “I vould look very dashing in a shirt like that, vith a sash and a rapier! I dare say you vould be quite sexy in a similar getup.”
Ty Lee thought about that for a minute. “I totally would.” Man, why was being an acrobat such a hard line of work to get into? “We could teach other people to do stuff. There are people who still want to learn to fight with swords.”
“Enough to live off of?” Kurt thought about that for a moment. “Vhat could you teach? I vouldn’t vant to do this alone.”
“Um, acrobatics, and throwing things!” She didn’t know how much demand there would be for those classes. “I know a lot of neat tricks. We could train bodyguards. Swordfighting makes your arms really strong, and that’s useful when you might have to stop someone from hitting someone else. Oh! Or we could teach people how to do stunts for movies!”
“Acrobatics is always in demand, but falls and stunts? Ja!” He got more excited the more he talked about it. “Bodygaurds vith style?”
“You know someone would want that.” Ty Lee was also getting excited at this idea. It would be a lot of fun, and it meant she wouldn’t ever have to work a normal job just to have something to do.
“Ty Lee,” Kurt said, smiling broadly. “Ve can at least see if it’s feasible, ja? As long as ve have something to fall back on. It might be fun.”
“I think so.” Ty Lee said, with a grin. “Oh, we’ll need a studio to rent, and someone who knows famous people, and business cards, and-” Ty Lee took a deep breath, and ended it with a laugh. “This will be so fun! Let me call Azula, I bet she can help us get started.”
“Friend of yours? If she can help, then I’m more than villing to accept it. Lifes to short to vallow in pride.” Kurt hugged her with his tail.
“She’s my wife.” Ty Lee said, obviously very proud of that fact. “So it won’t hurt my pride at all, and she knows a lot about business.”
“Huh.” Well that made things simpler. Kurt smiled at her. “Then ve vill have to all get together and plan. I’ll do some research on my end, see if there’s any competition.”
“Okay! I’m on the Valar network, so just send me a message.” She grinned and hugged Kurt. “If we have competition we’ll kick their butts, because we’re just that awesome.”
“Ja, Miss Ty Lee. Ve are just that awesome!”
