It began with choking black smoke, a circle of power, and the feel of cold Death at her throat. It ended with grief. The middle was fraught with breathtaking highs and devastating lows; with knowing that both heaven and hell were playing at one endless game of chess, but being unable to warn humankind. Given such empathy but sworn to neutrality, she was caught in a world between. Even in waking, she was scarcely able to shake the weight of that world.
Zach dreamed of songs, and death, of torture and hurting people, and liking it. He dreamed of sex, in forms and ways he had never imagined, and ways and forms he knew by heart and mind. He dreamed of a cold and yet hot soul, and mind, which could grasp the whole of the world in it’s power and crush it.
He dreamed of faithlessness, and pain, of love, and hate, of war, and peace, and flooding and agony and...
...and he woke, screaming, drenched in sweat, his body glowing, electricity seeming to fill his eyes. He couldn’t see, but he could hear. Barely.
“Te-tessa?”
His voice was strained, painful, and he whimpered to speak.
The moment she heard his voice, her own cares were forgotten. She could see--feel--the power that had been poured into him, his soul crying out in anguish as his body tried to assimilate it. Or at least that was how it seemed to her.
“I’m here, Zach,” she said, having no fear for herself as she reached for him. “I’m right here.”
His hand reached for hers. He felt full to bursting, and more than. he felt... inhuman, something other. Oddly, he did not feel, for once, like Zeus was taking over. Now that he had all those memories, somehow, that had faded. Instead, he felt pain and power, and knowledge.
He looked to Tessa and instead of seeing her, he saw all of her life, from beginning to now, like threads showing all those she had tangled with, all those she had come into contact with. And he knew, without knowing how, that he could reach out and change those, alter her fate. He shrunk back from such power and he squeezed her hand hard.
“I feel... different. Power... senses... like it’s flooding my mind.”
He shuddered.
“I know,” she murmured, stroking his cheek, and pressing her lips to his forehead, then his eyelids when he blinked. “I can feel it.” She could sense his life stretching into the infinite future, and the pain he felt as his humanity wrestled with his godhood.
She ran a hand down his chest, and splayed her fingers across his abdomen, as if the physical touch might help him settle into himself. “I want to help you, if I can.”
She just wasn’t entirely certain how.
He hugged her blindly and her kisses, her touches, made him feel more grounded. "Talk to me? Tell me what happened to you? You feel different, more.... More." He shuddered, calming a little, his body aching, feeling painful, weird.
“I dreamed,” she said, stretching out along the length of his body, skin against skin. It wasn’t necessarily sexual, though her affection and desire for him was part of it. But there was comfort in the contact, something very basic that transcended the bounds of their dreams and the waking world. Something that they both seemed to need.
“I was dispatched to a town whose reaper had been captured by demons. People weren’t dying, and things were out of balance, but that was just the tip of the iceberg. The demons were trying to break six of the sixty-six seals that bound Lucifer in his prison, so that they could free him and unleash the apocalypse--and the angels were in on it, because of course they believed that their side would win, and that they could bring paradise. But they were acting out of turn.”
She shuddered as the memories surged afresh. “To kill death twice under a harvest moon was one of the seals. And I was Death’s right hand, so of course, I walked right into the trap, in order to spring a trap for the demons. It worked, but one of my brothers sacrificed himself in the process, and there were other seals, and they found a way to free Lucifer anyway.”
He snuggled her close. “These dreams are sometimes really a bitch and bastard of a thing.” He felt knowledge surge in him, and power, and he groaned again, but it felt like it was settling. Not going away, but... settling.
“It feels weird, knowing and feeling everything like I do. Feeling the power of a god, of Zeus, for craziness’ sake, in me.” He swallowed. “And the knowledge, of life, death, the universe, and of sex...”
He blushed, bright red. “I feel like... so much is in my head, but Zeus was a very sexual being, and that is a large component of what he thought about. So it is a large component of what I know.”
“I think I almost prefer the little death to the real thing,” she said, “I could tell you how many people will probably die today, and where, and when. But at the same time...” She gave a soft laugh as she let her voice trail off for a moment, and then brought herself back to the here and now. “I can tell you how many new souls are being born, too.”
He smiled softly at her and reached out a hand, tangling his fingers in her hair and drawing her in to kiss her for joy, for love, for hope. “I love you, Tessa. So very much. I don’t care if I am stuck being Zeus as long as i have you in my life.”
She kissed him back, pouring her love of life, and her love for him into that kiss. “I love you,” she said, “I accept all that you are. And whether you use this power that you have, or not, that will be your choice.”
He smiled softly. “I dunno that I believe life gives us that many choices, but as long as I have breath, you are my choice, no matter who you are.” He kissed her back, all his life and love in it, and he glowed. He noticed, growled and the glow shut off.
“Silly powers.”
She basked in that glow, and snuggled against him as it disappeared. “You are beautiful, Zachary. With or without them, you are beautiful, and you are a good man.” She kissed him again, wrapping her leg more securely around him and rolling her hips against his. “And you’re mine.”
He moaned softly. He nodded at her, grinning. "I am all yours. " He ground up against her, whimpering lightly. He kissed her with rising passion. "And you make me want you so much."
“Mm...” Tessa shifted her hips, sliding her folds along his length to let him feel how wet he made her, even without his power; moving so that she could take him in. “You will have me, for as long as I live. And that may well be a long, long...ngh, long time.”
Zach whimpered as he slipped into her. Together forever sounded awesome.
He grinned as he stretched out a hand but couldn't quite reach the bedside table. As he wiggled into Tessa, he cried out and suddenly the endtable shook and opened, and a small black box leaped into his hand from where he had hidden it. Looking at Tessa, inside her, rocking slowly, he held it up "I love you. In sex, love, life, and dreams. Will you marry me? "
Tessa gasped as Zach seated himself inside her and presented the jewel box. She felt herself tighten around him, and she was pretty sure that she almost came, just like that. “Ohh...” she breathed; startled, and aroused, and flattered, all at once. She wasn’t sure if her voice would obey her, but it did. And what other answer could there be but, “Yes.”
Joy flushed through him and he whooped, and thrust upward at the same time. The joy, love, and lust in his heart felt incredible!
"Yes!! Tessa l" He cried out as he kissed her with everything he had, and outside, thunder roared and lightning flashed, and from nowhere, a light and joyful rain began.
He slid the ring onto her finger with a smile.
She smiled, laughing into the kiss; her body pulsing around him. She hadn’t thought about getting married since she was a little girl, but here, with Zach, now, it felt right. She loved him. She meant to share the rest of her life with him. Why shouldn’t they tell the world?
It seemed like Zach’s powers were going to tell the world anyway. “I love you.”
"I love you too, Tessa. I never knew I was capable of loving someone like this. But I am and I do. " He laughed for the sheer joy of it. "I may need to work on not letting my powers run wild."
“I think you get a pass this once,” she said, laughing with him. It felt good, to be so connected; body and soul. “It’s not every day a man gets to propose in the middle of amazing sex.” She smiled, and ran her fingers through his hair. “We can work on the rest together, one step at a time.”
Zach chuckled and kissed her again, grinning, wiggling in her and stroking her body, smiling as wide as he could. He thought he might never stop smiling. not even with Zeus as his dreammate. He nodded at her words. “Sounds good to me. With you, I know I can learn to control it.”
"Good," she said, pulsing around him as he moved, and wrapping her arms and legs more tightly around him. "Now make love to me, my beautiful, confident, sexy fiance. Let's make the heavens sing." FIN.
