You’ve put some thought into this.
Who: Kurt Wagner and Princess Cadence
When: Night of April 8
Where: Kurt’s place
What: Talking, he invites her to move in with him.
Rating/Warnings: Low/None
Status: Complete
After her talk with Big Mac, Cadence decided that life was too short to live in fear, to live by so many rules. She’d already given Kurt so much of herself, you’d think she’d have learned that by now. But somehow it felt like an epiphany. If she could wake up any morning in a horse’s body and lose everything, she wanted to spend every night with Kurt just in case it was her last.
She arrived at his place and hurried up to the front door, carrying a bag of groceries. She was planning on making him dinner and breakfast. Like normal. It was becoming a bit of a routine. So domestic, so comfortable. She felt like she needed comfort in her life right now.
He let her in like usual, and took the groceries. He had some surprises of his own, and his own need of comfort. A friend was in need and others were in danger. He wanted to warn Cadence but wasn’t sure how.
Cadence leaned in, as usual, and stole a kiss from his lips. Blue and furry or dashing, pink and handsome (well, handsome either way, actually) she was his man, and she loved him. “How was your day?” She asked, moving straight to the kitchen. She was going to be one of those Mexian Mamas feeding the neighborhood tamales.
“It vas pretty gutt!” He wrapped his arms around her. “I’ve been apartment hunting. It’s time to get a real place.”
“Apartment hunting?” Cadence asked, turning toward him and cuddling close. “That sounds great! What kind of place are you thinking?” She asked, leaning her head against his chest.
“Vell, I vant a two bedroom so that I could have a vork room, ja?” He smiled a little nervously. “Maybe you could look vith me?” Hint hint.
“Oh, you need some help looking?” Cadence gave a grin. “That sounds good. I mean, a work room is a good thing.” She pulled out of his arms, having missed the hint entirely, and started to unpack the groceries.
“I vanted something that vould vork for you too.” Kurt hinted more heavily.
Her hand paused in the bag of lettuce she was holding. "For me, too?" Cadence asked, her heart thumping.
“For you too.” His eyes were serious.
She swallowed. "You want me to live with you?" She was thrilled at the idea, even if a little terrified.
“Ja. I do.” He gripped her hands.
She was holding her breath. “O-Okay.” She said, excitement and nerves flooding within her. “...I... I think...” Why waste any more time? If she was going to turn into a unicorn tomorrow, she wanted to spend her last night as a human with him. And any night could be her last night. “I’d like that. A lot.”
...how would she explain that to her father?
Kurt burst into a huge grin. He hadn’t expected her to say yes, but he’d hoped. “I tire of sleeping alone, and I think you spend more time vith me than where you normally sleep.”
“My Sisters at the House complain that I’m never around.” Cadence admitted, though it didn’t really bother her. “But I think they’ll just have to live with it.” It wasn’t as if she wanted sex every night. There were still lingering feelings about sex being sinful that she couldn’t seem to shake--so sometimes sex made her feel guilty and ashamed. No, she wanted to sleep with him every night. She wanted to feel his warm body next to hers, cuddle up close against him.
Kurt wanted that. Really, he wanted all of the above, but he mostly just wanted her warmth next to him as he slept. To wake up to her face in the morning. “Gutt.” He grinned.
She paused for a moment. “...my father is going to say something about us living in sin,” she said, softly, then turned back around to continue unpacking the groceries. She was almost a little nervous to mention it.
Kurt regarded her and said simply. “And is that vhat you feel?”
She paused for a long moment, and finally turned around to face him again. “I don’t know. Sometimes I feel like it’s a sin. Sometimes I don’t. It’s hard to undo so many years of programming. But it’s hard to believe that something so wonderful, something with so much love and joy and pleasure, is coming between me and God. I think it brings me closer to God.”
His yellow eyes glowed with love and emotion. He was...proud of her, and happy with himself. For the first time in years it felt like he had faith. “Nothing filled vith such love could be a sin. And I dreamed I became a priest.” He winked.
She flushed. "In your dreams, did you marry?"
“Nien...” He shook his head. “There vere a few vomen I vould have considered it, but things never vorked out.”
"Do you think you will in this world? Some day?"
"Vhy vouldn't I?" Kurt shook his head. "Just because death and magic kept it from happening in my dreams?"
Cadence nodded, then turned back around and continued to sorry through dinner making supplies to cook. She had a few things to think about.
He looked at her a moment, then walked out to the other room. He came back a few minutes later with various clippings of apartments.
Cadence was well into dinner preparations. She was lost in thought, and barely registered that he'd left, let alone that he was back. But she knew one thing. She loved him enough to give herself to him completely, she loved him enough to live with him, she would absolutely marry him if he asked. She wanted to. She just didn't know how to ask herself. Or even bring it up herself.
Kurt flipped through the ads. He wanted some place close enough for the college that it wouldn’t be a long trip for her. He’d rather have the long trip for himself. And he wanted something that they could easily call their own. He wasn’t so sure about the M-word yet.
She finally noticed he'd come back in. "Find anything?"
“A few! Vhy don’t you take a look at these?” He waved her over and held out his top three picks. He was excited to see her reactions. Hell, he was very excited by the prospect!
Cadence wiped her hands on a kitchen towel as she headed over to where he had the apartment information ready. She glanced down then gave a little chuckle. “You’ve put some thought into this.” It wasn’t a spur of the moment decision for him. That was good news.
“I’ve been thinking about it for months. Ever since I got mien car. I vas thinking about it before, but I needed the car first. And vith my new job, I can afford an apartment now!” He was so proud of himself.
She grinned softly. She was still living on Daddy’s dime, and was hoping that even if she chose to take this path, that wouldn’t end. Still, it would be best to tread lightly, to be careful around Daddy Moneybags. She needed to get her half of the rent somehow. Maybe she’d have to take on another job, or get more hours at the Childcare Center on campus. “Months. Wow. I mean, the me part entered into the equation later, right?”
“Vell, yes..and no.” Kurt blushed a little. “I’ve alvays been ashamed of this place. I vanted a better apartment to have you visit. I vanted...to impress you.”
“Impress me?” Cadence asked, feeling flattered. Though, possibly also a little insulted. “...did you really think I cared where you lived?”
“I didn’t know at first?” He laughed. “And even after...I vanted a place that ... that felt like you belonged more.”
“We don’t need to get anything fancy,” Cadence was a little worried he might try to get something they couldn’t afford, or that he would stretch himself too thin. “Just... comfortable. Honestly, I could even live here. With you.” She flushed a bit. His place was small, a bit of a rat trap, but it didn’t matter to her so long as he was there.
“I’d like to live in a place vithout rats, at least. Two bed rooms, in a neighborhood that I von’t have to vorry about. I don’t vant to get jumped again, even if I can defend us now.”
Cadence blushed. She’d been taking self defense courses, but now she wasn’t sure she was going to need them as much as before. For one, she had Kurt to protect her. And for two, she was starting to be able to make people feel love, like in the dreams. That was protection, wasn’t it? “Do we really need two bedrooms?” They were all so pricey.
“Like here,” Kurt pointed. “There’s..vhat...one hundred dollars difference but nearly double the floor space? I like the floor plan better and ve can use the extra room for books and vorking on things.”
“Or a guest bedroom.” It was possible she would want to have nieces or nephews over to spend the night at some point. “Or any of the above.” Now, looking at the floorplans and things, she was growing more and more excited over the idea.
“That too!” Kurt grinned. He liked that idea even more, and nuzzled at her.
She blushed, wrapped one arm down around him, and cuddled close. It felt like a fairy tale.
"Ve should check this one out in person." Kurt smiled happily. It felt like they might finally be in the clear.
“Just name the day.” She said, giving a gentle sigh as she cuddled close against him. The timer went off, signaling that the rice was finished, so she had to release him to finish dinner preparations.
“Tomorrow.”
