Billy was out wandering in San Francisco when it began, the attacks by the giant robot. He didn’t believe his eyes at first and he stared, watching the attack begin, and the destruction of the Golden Bay Bridge. His seriously shocked expression changed when he saw several kids nearly crushed by a wall falling, though and he rushed out. “Hey, come on! This way!” He led the kids to a shelter he knew of, one where a kindly churchman helped people and where he figured help would be, and he was right. The kids were ushered in.

Billy turned and headed back out, knowing others were sure to be in the midst of things. And people tended to not think so well. He wished he had more power, so he could help them better, but he would just do what he could for them, and that was that.

The next few hours saw him helped one person after another. Doing his best to dodge crazy robots, and hoping the whole situation would pass soon. As he looked out at the robot from having ushered in some adults to a clinic, he wondered what would stop it. It seemed like a lot of people were around it.

Huhn.

He almost felt drawn close to watch, and you know, to look for more people to help...

Pink light flashed nearby, and a woman with pink skin and a green costume ran out of it. She flung some kind of lance towards falling debris and it flashed away just before landing on a crowd of people. She lept up, sprung off of a wall and landed on top of one of the small scouts sentinels. She pressed her hands on top of it, and half of the thing flashed away.

Blink backflipped of the wreckage.

Billy gaped and then dodged some flying pieces, and grinned. “Holy Moley! A superhero!” No way!

He grinned, then came to himself and went to the crowd to make sure they knew where to go, where the closest shelter was. As they filtered away, Billy kept his eyes open, looking for more robots, and for another look at the superhero. That was so cool!

The robot shifted, and started to piece itself back together. Blink sighed, and flicked her wrist. Another lance flew through the air and the rest of it was gone. She liked to throw these things into active volcanos.

Gunfire drew her attention. She spotted a figure in a black jumpsuit shooting at another robot and ran to join her.

Billy watched with something like awe. Wow! Then he spotted some kids trapped under debris near where the action was happening and he headed that way. While the superheroes took care of things, he would get the people out of there. He might be only sixteen, but he was strong-ish.

he went to the people and started moving debris. “Hang on folks, everything’s going to eb alright.” a blast came nearby, and shook debris down on them, and one baby started to cry in her mother’s arms. The mother, stressed out, wailed. “We’re going to die!”

Billy sighed. “No, we’re not. The heroes will stop the robot, and we’re going to get you and your family out of here, ma’am.” An older man, looking tired, ancient, and battered, nodded.

“The kid’s right, Martha. Sometimes, you have to have faith, no matter how horrible things are.” The debris was shifted enough for the old man to crawl out, showing a line of numbers on one arm as he moved past Billy who was shoring up one area as he shifted debris. “Okay, ma’am. Come on. We can do this!” Several others came out...

Somewhere nearby, there was a blast, and the ground rumbled. A fighter flew overhead, flying to the downtown area where the mega-sentinel was rampaging. It opened fire as it got closer.

Down on the ground, Blink was keeping debris off of people while Natasha kept the scout distracted.

Lightning and thunder flared and the mega sentinel wa struck over and over by jagged thrusts of the electrical storm brewing over it’s head.

The lady finally came out as the two fought the smaller robot, and Billy glanced around as the people hurried away. He spotted another small robot coming closer, from behind the superheroes, and his eyes went wide. “Look out! Behind you!”

There was nothing Billy Batson could do, really, being a sixteen year old kid, and yet... somehow he was charging the scout with a rock in his hand and hurling it to keep it off the backs of the superheroes. As it raised what looked remarkably like a laser cannon and pointed it at him, Billy realized this might have been a stupid move...

A pink blur hit Billy. There was a flash and then the world twisted around him as he fell out the other side, several hundred feet away. The pink girl charged towards the robot, throwing flashing lances at it, blinking away the laser cannon.

The robot staggered and brought around it's arms to try to knock her away even as Billy scrambled to his feet and hurled a single rock. The rock bounced off the head uselessly, then fell into the robot's chest cavity.

It shifted, incorporating the rock into it's chassis, almost like a piece of armor. It was already healing itself from it's previous damage. One long tendril shot towards Blink, and she dodged out of the way. It attacked Natasha, and she flew into a wall, grunting. "Damn." She pointed her gun and shot out it's eye.

Billy winced and then hmmed. and he nodded. he ran toward the woman who had flown into the wall. “First, are you okay? Second, can you shoot the rock in it’s armor hard enough to shatter it, then shoot again before it has a chance to repair? Would that do anything or am i just being dumb. Hi.”

“That won’t do anything,” Natasha replied, a little harshly. “Get to safety. It’ll just regenerate and use the rock in it’s armor. At best you can be bait.”

Billy winced and nodded. “Yes, ma’am.” And he ran. There were times when running was good, right? Right. He ran, and wished, really hard, that somehow, this darn thing would just get... well, he didn’t know what... hit by lightning? Or something.

A moment later, an arc of lightning some ten feet wide came down and hit the creature, hard, loud, and long. Billy didn’t see that. All he knew was that the air itself seemed to turn white, and the booming and explodey-ing sound was loud enough to make his ears ring as he was flung against a wall.

Natasha picked herself up, groaning. “Well that was lucky...” She looked around for the boy, then ran over to where he’d landed. “Are you okay?”

Billy squinted at her and then nodded slowly. “I think so!” He felt like he was a little numb, and bruised, and otherwise fine. “Sorry I got in your way!”

Also possibly having a little hearing issue right now.

“Get to safety!” Natasha patted his cheek, then helped him to his feet. “You’ve done enough! Help yourself.”

“Thanks, ma’am!” he nodded and staggered off. But his intention to get to safety only lasted until he saw someone else needing help. Then he headed that way. Not even exploding robots could keep Billy Batson from helping.

It was just another day in San Francisco anyway...
FIN.
