Darcy was waiting patiently for Loki to come and pick her up. She asked him for help, and that she needed him. But for what? Ah yes, only time would tell. Currently she was playing video games with her roommate and he was kicking her ass. She grumbled and then sighed when they came to save point. Ah well. “You totally won that round. I’ll be back, I think my ride’s here. See ya.”
Grabbing her shoes and putting them on, she answered the door with a grin on her face. “Hey. One sec. Let me get my keys.”
Loki was mildly suspicious from the start, but he loved a good surprise. Besides, spending time with Darcy in general was better than watching tv at home.
He raised his eyebrows at her and nodded.
"Sure. I'll be in the car."
Suspicious? Of her? No way! Darcy grabbed her keys and then met him out in the car. “Thanks for picking me up. I guess you’re wondering what I need you for?” she asked, glancing back over at him.
“How do you feel about breaking and entering?”
He was about to say that yes, he was wondering, but when she kept going he let out a surprised laugh.
"You're kidding, right? Actually, I feel surprisingly okay with it. Whose house are we breaking into?"
“No, I’m not kidding. Really? Well my sister’s place. I need someone to be my lookout. If I asked anyone else, they’d give me that look like I shouldn’t be and then give me a lecture.” Darcy seemed glad he had her back though.
"You know me, I love a bit of mischief." Loki laughed again, starting the car up and driving off.
"Just tell me where to go and what to do."
Darcy gave him directions to her sisters house and sat back in the car. “That’s why I asked you. You won’t give me a hard time. I can do the actual breaking and entering. She shouldn’t be home, she should be at work. Though I need you to wait downstairs while I look around.”
"I think I can do that. Why, exactly," Lokis asked as they drew nearer to the house, "are we doing this?"
“Because my sister has some things that I want, but she won’t let me in the house and refuses to give them to me. So I’m just going to go in and take them.” Like she was going to take her sisters bullshit just lying down.
"One of the many reasons I like you so much."
Loki gave her a smirk, parking the car near the house but not directly in front.
"All right. Let's go commit a crime or two."
With a grin, Darcy got out of the car and headed down to her sisters house. Sure enough, no one was home and so she could walk right up and go inside. “Does it count as breaking and entering if you know where the spare key is?” she asked as she went to go get it.
"Uh, no, I don't think it does. I think that's just entering," he teased. He followed behind her with his hands in his pockets.
“Okay well you still have to watch because if she finds us here, she’ll call the cops.” Her sister was a dick that way. Grabbing the key, she let them both inside. She didn’t turn on any lights, just used her phone to guide the way. “You stay here okay?”
Loki gave her s salute and lingered at the door, watching the window for any sign of Darcy's sister.
"I can't believe the things I do for you." It was, at least, said fondly.
Heading into the other room, she started to search for whatever she was looking for.
"Didn't you say you had nothing else to do? You know you love me," she grumbled back at him with a grin.
"Maybe I just like spending time with you. Legally spent or otherwise."
He watched a car drive by, then glanced behind him to see if he could see Darcy before returning to his watch.
“Do you actually? Or are you being a smart ass?” she asked, trying to find one specific thing. Of course she wasn’t quite sure where it was. That would be too easy.
"I was, surprisingly enough, being sincere." Loki leaned toward the window to watch another car start rolling slowly down the road.
"Uh. Darcy, what sort of vehicle does your sister drive?"
Huh. “Well I like spending time with you too,” she admitted softly. And she was about to say something else, possibly important when his question interrupted her.
“Um a silver honda. Why? Shit.. is she back?” Grabbing what she came for, she dashed back to where he was.
"Yes, I'd hazard to say that she is." Loki stepped back a bit as the headlights drove up the driveway.
"Is there a back door, by chance?"
“Shit. Shit shit shit. Yeah get down before she sees us,” she said, tugging him down out of the way. Then she lead the way slowly towards the back door, going as quickly and quietly as she possibly could.
He followed obediently, and couldn't help grinning despite himself.
"Do we get to jump a fence?"
“Um.. possibly. There’s a fence, if you really want to jump it.” She was hoping it wouldn’t come to that. She heard someone unlock the door as they moved through the kitchen and got to the back door.
Silently she opened the door, and that’s when she heard it. Her sister’s voice. “What the fuck?”
“GO!” Darcy yelped, pushing Loki out the door.
Loki hurried after Darcy, trying not to laugh, but he found the situation delightfully hilarious. He made a point of avoiding the fence, though.
She would find the situation hilarious once she wasn’t being chased by her stupid sister. Once outside, she made down the road. Her sister didn’t seem to be following them though. Huh.
Once they were down the road and towards the car, then she started to laugh. “Man.. that was kind of fun. You better not be laughing at me.”
Loki leaned against the car, trying to catch his breath and still laughing.
"Not at all. Come on, we'll stop for a drink at my place and you can show me what we were breaking and entering for."
She giggled a bit as well and then nodded. “Sounds good. I could use a drink after that. And obviously, if anyone asks.. we did not just do that.” She gave him a stern look and got into the car.
"Even if someone caught on, I'm very good at talking my way out of things."
He climbed into the car and started towards home.
“That’s why I brought you along. Thanks by the way. For having my back.” She smiled at him.
"Any time. Really. That's what friends are for, are they not?" Loki glanced over and flashed her a smile.
“That they are. I’ll keep that in mind when I need to do more illegal things.” She was teasing, right?
“Good. Because you know Thor wouldn’t go along with it.” He paused, the snickered a bit. “Can you imagine it? That big oaf of a man, bumbling about in the dark trying to get away?”
Loki laughed. True, Thor would manage fine, given his athleticism, but Loki rather had the funny image of a bull in a china shop.
Darcy snorted in laughter, trying to picture that. “It would be hilarious. And then he’d sit me down and give me a lecture about morals and how I should just ask nicely.” she couldn’t stop laughing after that.
It caused a new wave of laughter in Loki, and he had to wipe some tears from his eyes so he could drive better. Eventually he came to his home and he let out a long exhale, still looking amused.
“Maybe we could be a new Bonnie and Clyde.”
Oops. Yeah let’s not drive off a cliff. Once she had caught her breath from laughing too much, she got out of the car and let him lead the way inside. “That’s a good idea. We’d be so badass at it too.”
“Oh, completely. I like the idea of infamy, you know. It’s much more exciting than fame.” He flashed her a grin and let her inside before following, closing the door.
“So. Go on, then, what was so important we had to run for our God-fearing lives?”
“You want to be wanted by the police and everyone else? Infamy is totally better.” She grinned back and slid inside. She didn’t remember the last time she’d been here.
“Oh right. This.” Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out a small box. “This is my grandmothers. Or it was anyway. She gave it to me. Or well she said I could have it before she died. And then well my sister decided to take it for herself.”
Loki peered over at the box, admiring it in his quiet way, and then nodding his approval. Not that she needed it.
“A noble cause. I’m glad to have helped, then.” He smiled widely and went searching for some drinks for them.
Darcy missed her grandmother, it was kind of obvious when she looked at the box. Her grandmother was the only one who really gave a shit about her.
“And I thank you. Again, Mr. Barrow.” She settled back on the couch until he got those drinks.
Drinks in hand, Loki settled beside Darcy and handed one over. He took a sip from his quietly.
“I’m sorry your sister kept it from you.”
She took her drink and settled in next to him. “Me too. I don’t know why she has it out for me so bad. But whatever.” See? She and Loki had a lot in common. Sort of.
“Siblings can be tricky things, can’t they?” He settled his arm across the back of the couch, taking another drink. Of course, Thor had always been nothing but supportive of him, which Loki was glad for, but sometimes he wished it wasn’t the case. As much as he loved his brother, the sibling rivalry had always been on the back of Loki’s mind. Sometimes it was just maddening keeping it forced down.
Oh well. He knew he had no room for complaints.
“Yeah, they can,” she agreed. It was odd because she’d had all of those dreams about Thor and Loki. And that Loki had tried to kill her. Not outright of course, but he’d tried to kill everyone in general. It was odd, she couldn’t see any of that Loki with the one in front of her. She hoped that he didn’t have any of those dreams, for his own sake.
“Now that that’s done though, I don’t have any reason to talk to her. Which is just fine by me.” She nudged him playfully a bit.
“Good riddance, then,” he laughed, nudging back. “To your freedom from your sister!” Loki raised his glass in a toast.
She raised her glass and clinked it with his. “Amen to that. So.. now what would you like to do? I mean I took my turn. It’s only fair that you should get yours.”
“What’s wrong with this? Besides, I don’t have anywhere to break into,” Loki teased.
Darcy stuck her tongue out at him and then stretched her legs out onto the table. “Nothing’s wrong with this. Turn on the tv or something then. Unless you’re going to tell me a story.”
“The only stories I know are boring ones about Norse gods. TV it is. Maybe there’s a Friends rerun on, or The Big Bang Theory.” He stretched out like she did and turned on the TV, absently flicking through the channels.
“Eww, well I don’t want to fall asleep,” she grumbled as she sat back to watch tv. Well this night had actually been decent. Much better than she would have thought it would go.
“Yeah, eight-legged horses and Valhalla get so dull after a while.” Loki grinned a little, settling into an amused look. Eventually he found Friends and chose that channel. “I think they should have let this show go on forever, you know. Right until they were in a retirement home.”
“It so is. I mean.. who wants to hear about those wacky shenanigans?” She didn’t seem to mind watching Friends though. “You think so? I dunno, they all kinda aged badly.”
“Their looks have nothing to do with their humour. Besides, imagine Chandler.” He paused and put on a dead-pan expression. “Could I be any older.”
She couldn't help but snort and laugh in amusement. "If they ever redo it, you'd be shoe-in. Well as long as they were in a retirement home, I'd watch that. Like the crazy Golden Girls."
“Your faith in me is inspiring. But I think I’ll stick to magic.” Loki snorted, too, sipping at his drink.
"Probably a good idea. I think you're a much better magician than actor, sorry to say." She just beamed at him with a giant smirk on her face.
He gasped, looking offended.
“I’ll have you know I’m a fantastic actor. And I would have likely persued it if Thor hadn’t come bumbling into it as he did.” Loki stuck up his nose just slightly.
She looked a might surprised. "Really? You wanted to act? See I can see that over Thor. I thought he'd be some kind of stunt guy. Though I mean you're a wonderful magician."
“I did.” He sighed, fondly. “I think I probably could have done whatever I’d wanted, arrogant as it sounds. I was very good at academics, but something about performing seemed to suit me, I guess. I like to be the centre of attention.” Loki smirked, nudging Darcy’s side.
“I’m glad, though, that Thor found it. It really did wonders for him, and it pushed me into something I enjoy more than that. There’s not a stage or screen big enough for two Odinsons, I feel.”
That was pretty arrogant, but she didn’t say anything until he brought up liking to be the center of attention. “What? You do? No way!” she mockingly gasped in sarcasticness, only to nudge him back for that remark.
“When you like what you do, that’s all that matters. You’re probably right.”
"Of course I'm right." Loki grinned and ruffled her hair.
"I'm famished. Let's order food."
