Cosette was just as afraid as her father was, though for entirely different reasons. What if she didn't like her? Cosette had already spent the time since she learned her mother was in town worrying needlessly at Coureyrac and Marius. And out of it all? She could tell that her father was nervous too.
So Cosette stood farther from the door, where she had been pacing and texting Marius frantically. Her phone was long forgotten when her father opened the door. She froze in place, eyes wide and her breath failing her. This was it. She was going to meet the woman she'd been dreaming of meeting since as long as she could remember.
