They hadn’t slept much. Azula had made sure of that. Between the fire pit and the waves, and the stars beautiful overhead, she’d experienced the kind of peace she’d rarely known in this life -and never known in the other.
The sun was just beginning to rise, and she watched the light play across Ty Lee’s bare skin as she slept next to her. Gently, she brushed aside some hair, and trailed her fingers along curves and old scars.
“I’ll find you a better purpose,” she promised quietly.
Ty Lee stirred a little, smiling lazily at Azula. “Mmmm, morning.” She pulled her lover in for a kiss. She was going to pretend to be a normal girl for a little while longer, before going back to reality. “I hope you’re as sore as I am.” She grinned at Azula.
“Morning.” She brushed at Ty Lee’s hair again. She liked it when it wasn’t in braids. “I don’t think I can walk yet. I forget how bendy you are.” She really didn’t mind.
Ty Lee just giggled. “The cold sand probably didn’t help.” She snuggled close to Azula. “Oh man, I have sand in places that did not need to be exfoliated.” It was uncomfortable, but also incredibly funny.
"I look forward to scrubbing you down." She shifted, the discomfort on her face, too. But she ignored it. Mostly. She pressed Ty Lee against her.
Ty Lee was happy to be held by Azula. “I look forward to that, too.” She kissed Azula passionately, her hands stroking over Azula’s back and hips.
That felt amazing, and Azula forgot herself for a long moment. She felt something in her chest, that reminded her of getting shot, only it was a good kind of getting shot.
Ty Lee just savored Azula’s body, kissing her neck and shoulder softly. “I’m so glad to know you, Azula.”
Azula shifted against Ty Lee, responding to her hands and lips. “I felt so empty without you.”
Ty Lee groaned a little, her eyes wide. “I think about you all the time, even when I’m doing other things. I want to tell you about everything.” She slid her hands between them, watching Azula respond with interest. She loved to please her master. Her fingers gently caressed between Azula’s legs, but the sand there put a stop to anything she might want to try. She giggled. “Stilly sandy. We should go home.”
“Damn it,” Azula whispered, her legs writhing. “You’re right. I’m just...really enjoying this.” It was the most romantic night of her life. It felt like she made up for her mistake in not kissing Ty Lee like she’d wanted to on Ember Island.
“I know, but we’ll have other nights together.” Ty Lee promised. “I’m happy to shower you with affection and attention all the time.”
“Just me, right?” Azula was always a little worried that Ty Lee would leave her. Find another romantic partner, or just outright decide she didn’t want to be with her.
“Yes, I promised, remember.” Ty Lee thought the question was silly. She wasn’t around enough other people to have much choice, and it didn’t bother her too much. “You take up all my available time.”
"....." Azula swallowed. "I'm going to give you more time off. For your own sake." Not much extra. She was selfish.
"I'm not going to complain." Ty Lee giggled. "You're amazing."
She just wished that Ty Lee understood exactly what she meant to Azula. She’d move heaven and destroy mountains, at this point, if anything ever happened to her.
Ty Lee sat up and started collecting their clothes, humming cheerfully as she searched. Azula got her things first, naturally, and Ty Lee helped her dress.
Biting her lip, Azula stretched, stepping back to watch the other woman as she got dressed. This was one of her favorite pastimes.
Ty Lee giggled, showing off as she dressed. She liked it when Azula watched her, knowing she had the older girl’s full attention. When things were rough, she was just happy to be able to make Azula smile. When things were good, it was fun to be looked at, especially the way Azula looked at her.
When she was dressed, she collected their impromptu camping supplies. “Ready to go?”
“Yes.” She stretched, then rolled her shoulders and neck to loosen them. She was pretty tired, but it was a good sort of tired. “I dreamed about you last night. Sort of.”
“What did you dream?” Ty Lee smiled as they walked together. Even just being together like this was nice.
" I...dreamed you came to me, but you weren't really there. I wasn't... Well, at that time." Insane. Crazy. She thought of the earlier dream, where Ty Lee had visited and wondered if she'd hallucinated that too. That one had seemed too real. Azula wanted to think it was.
“You were sick, in the dream?” Ty Lee went to open Azula’s door for her, and stowed the beach things in the back seat.
“Not physically,” Azula said, shaking her hair out before she slid into the passenger seat. She said it casually, lightly. Like it was no big deal.
“Oh.” Ty Lee didn’t know what to say to that. “The dreams are very different from the real world.” That seemed to be the right thing to say.
"Not as different as I would like." Azula shrugged a shoulder. She would work through it. She had reasons to be sane. She would cling to them.
“Then let’s make it different.” Ty Lee said, facing Azula completely when she got into the car. “Let’s do whatever it takes to make things different.”
Azula looked at Ty Lee, uncertainty on her face. It was bare, and emotional and she didn’t care that her mask had slipped. “Would side with me against my father?”
Ty Lee pursed her lips. It was death if she was caught. Worse than death. Ozai’s little room contained horrors she couldn’t even imagine. She’d seen men go in and come out so changed they were unrecognizable. “I won’t let him hurt you again, Azula. Whatever that takes.” She took a deep breath, resolute. The only thought more frightening that Ozai’s little room was the thought of Azula being taken in there.
She should have been, but Azula wasn’t afraid of that room. Her eyes were steel, and she held her hand up. A ball of flame flickered. "Father does not have fire. I could remove him, now, if I chose.”
“Then why don’t you? I’m sure I could take out the guards, they all know me pretty well. I wouldn’t even have to get violent, I could draw them away with tricks.”
“It’s too soon, there’d be infighting, a lot of death and collateral damage. We have to be ready to step into his place.” The fire winked out. “I’m mature enough to admit I’m not ready. Not yet.”
She didn’t like the idea of tricks that might get Ty Lee touched or worse, though, if things went wrong.
Ty Lee nodded. “Okay. I think you can do it, but it can wait until you’re ready.” She had a lot of faith in Azula. She hoped it wasn’t misplaced. Then again, could anyone be worse than Ozai?
“Your faith means a lot to me,” Azula admitted. This was still pretty dangerous. If Ty Lee betrayed her, other on purpose or through force...it could be bad. Very bad. But she had to trust her. Even if trust was a terrifying thing. It was a huge admission. “I... trust you.”
Ty Lee was glad she hadn’t started the car, yet. Love was something nebulous she was only beginning to be mature enough to understand, but trust she understood. She leaned over and kissed Azula passionately. “I trust you too.”
She squeezed her eyes shut, letting the emotions of the kiss drown her. Azula was certain she’d scare Ty Lee away some day. But for now, she relished being with the only person who made her feel like she wasn’t a monster.
