Disappointed, Ms. Frost?
Who: Kitty. Also Dream!Emma
What: Saving the World. It must be Tuesday.
Where: Space
When: Dreamtime!
status: Complete
Rating: PG
Stuck in a ten-mile long bullet. And now Emma's voice was in her brain. She hated when Emma's voice was in her brain.
What do you mean you "can't"?
It was getting harder to breathe. Her air would run out eventually. Probably sooner.
I've been trying, but this metal its..been affecting me since I first found Pete and now..I barely made it in here. I won't make it out.
Of course, Emma would be demanding and condescending at the same time. Maybe she wanted to spank her for being bad. That wasn't entirely a bad thing This is a very bad time to play the weak kitten, kitten. You're going to phase out and we'll fly right trough you, its not a request.
I don't feel weak, Emma. I feel sick.
Well thats too bloody bad--
Not Pain, not ..just like it got in me. Like I'm meshed to this metal. It wants me here. I'm in the cage I freed Peter from.
There was a pause in the mental communication. When she 'heard' the older woman again, it was quieter. Kitty, you know any hope we have of stopping this thing...
I know.
There was another pause, longer this time. Kitty tried to focus herself, tried to pull herself together, literally in at least one way.
So. Can't be much longer, right?
We're trying to put something between you and the Earth. We don't know if it'll work, but either way..feel like phasing out of there? Say, oh, about now
She let out a little laugh. It sounded more like a sob, and it echoed off the metal Sounds great. Sounds really great.
Kitty...I...can put you somewhere else. I can make you less afraid.
God, she really meant that, didn't she? Nah. I'm gonna see this through.
This was never meant to..not you..
Kitty managed a smile. It wasn't much of one, but it was still a smile. Yeah, I was supposed to take you out, as I recall. Disappointed, Ms. Frost?
Astonished, Ms. Pryde
Her prison hit whatever they had thrown in her way, and didn't even shudder. It continued to barrel towards the Earth. She could feel it. There wasn't much time left.
She'd never done anything on this scale. A car, a plane. Not a ten-mile long metal asteroid. But the same thing that made her feel so sick, might just help.
"God...give me strength."
The molecules in her body shifted, and then the effect rippled through the bullet. She thought she might have screamed.
She saw flashes of buildings and people and then the Earth itself. Through the mantle and the core and then out the other side. Into space. Will anyone cry for her?
She couldn't move, didn't need to breath. she was too much a part of the metal that there was no hope she'd ever break free.
There was just her and the space around her. She had a lot of time to think. A lot of time to sort through her life and to grow bitter and wallow in hopelessness. To think about the child she'd loved as though he were real. To think about one emergency after another. Even her attempt at living a normal life had ended in explosions and sentinels. To think about lost opportunities. Piotr, Wisdom, Xi'an, Rachel.
She wondered how long it would be until she was forgotten. Until she was just another name with the word deceased next to it. Like Moira and Doug, and Sean, forgotten. Maybe that was for the best.
