Things were slowly getting unpacked. It was taking a while because Jess was at work all the time. But she was slowly getting everything in working order. She wasn’t sure which part was harder, the packing or the unpacking. Maybe they should have hired movers for this part too. Ah well. Tonight after work, she had been getting the last couple of things out of the boxes to figure out where to put them.
Inside their bedroom, she hmm’d a bit. “I’m thinking we should have a party. A small one. Friends. You know because this place is ours now. What do you think?”
Carol had been helping when she could. Right now she was wearing black panties and a matching tank top, while she sat cross legged in front of the closet as she sorted through a box. “I think that would be fun. Kind of like saying we’re together. Officially.”
Jess was just glad that there were no more nights spent by herself. And that they were both there for each other. Even if this was sort of freaking her out internally. That was natural though, right? “Yeah like that. Maybe just some wine and friends. We could play a game or something. Might be fun.”
“I’ll break out the Wii,” Carol suggested. She liked the idea of a more physical game they could play. “We could invite Thor?” She realized that she didn’t know all of Jess’s friends and that she didn’t have as many as she herself would like. “Lulu, too.”
“That sounds like fun. Oh we should play Cards Against Humanity. Those are always fun and make people laugh.” Jess loved that game, especially because of how inappropriate it was. “Thor and Lulu. And anyone else I can think of.”
“Never played it, you’ll have to teach me,” Carol replied, grinning at her. She figured she’d get her ass kicked, and was okay with that. “We’ll have to break out the boardgames, I think most of mine are cobwebbed.”
“Oh it’s fun. It’s a card game for awful awful people. You try to make each other laugh by filling in the blanks. I’ll show you sometime soon.” It wasn’t really a game where you beat other people though. In any case Jess looked excited. “Good idea. There’s some ones I’ve been wanting to pick up that I haven’t played in a while. We could just have a gaming night house-party. Maybe make it a regular thing? See if anyone wants to come over for board game night.”
“Now I’m curious. We’ll do that then.” She got to her feet, then walked over to Jess and wrapped her arms around her. “That sounds really boring. I’m happy about that.” As long as it didn’t involve getting shot, or robbed, or near misses in the air she hadn’t told Jess about.
“Good, you’ll love it.” Jess slid her arms around Carol and smiled. “I’m glad for boring too. Especially after the other week.” She didn’t want anything like that to happen again. She would do well not to know about any of that other stuff though. “Next weekend then?”
"Saturday night. I think we'd get the most people then." She didn't want anything huge, but she wanted it lively. "Isn't this kind if like a coming out party?"
For some reason that made her laugh a little. “I guess? Do we need to come out? Don’t people know?” she shrugged a little. “I see no reason to hide.”
“Just kind of weird. We got together and didn’t hide it, but didn’t announce it either. I don’t want to make a big deal of it, but if anyone doesn’t know they’ll know after this.” Carol thought about it. “I think that works for me.”
“Me either. Like we don’t have to put out banners or anything. I think most of our friends are cool enough to ‘get it’. They’re happy for us, that’s all that matters.” She leaned in and gave Carol a kiss.
“I love--mmph..” Carol trailed off and let herself fall into the kiss. “I’ve been so happy lately, I can hardly stand it.”
Jess grinned and kissed her again, soundly this time. She let her hands tighten around Carol’s waist. “Me too. I can’t believe we’re here, together. But I’m really happy. And I love you.”
Carol felt giddiness flood her, and she started to float them into the air. “I love you too. Except I think my cat has adopted you. Should I be jealous?”
She squeaked a little bit in surprised but then laughed. She was going to have to get used to this. “Maybe a little. I can’t help it if the cat likes me more. Maybe the cat wants to eat me.. I am a spider after all.”
“No, you’re just delicious.” This was a sort of domestic bliss that Carol hadn’t ever really known she’d wanted. She’d been content with her cat, her bestie, and flying...and now she had her cat, her bestie was her lover, and she could fly without a plane. Mostly. She wondered when things would go bad, like they usually did. She squeezed Jess hard.
With a laugh, Jess stuck her tongue out at her. “I am a bit, aren’t I?” she wiggled her eyebrows at her girlfriend. The same thing could be said for her. She went out with guys, but they never really made her feel like she did when she was with Carol. Nothing could really compare. Hopefully they wouldn’t go bad. God she hoped not. “Want to finish unpacking or take a break and go do something?”
Carol laughed. “Whichever doesn’t require getting dressed. I like to run around in my underwear, you kind of have to deal with it.” Somehow, she doubted Jess would mind.
Nope she didn’t mind. She really didn’t. Not in the slightest. “We should play video games. No getting dressed. Loser has to make the other one dessert.”
“Strip Playstation All-stars?” Carol suggested.
“You’re on!” With a grin, Jess ran down the hallway and to the living room so that they could have their competition.
Carol gave her a headstart, then ran after her. She might actually win this time!
